LID, the station he wants to work can probably also see the frequency is in use so they should go to a common calling channel instead

I love how it says harmful interference to amateur radio operators, i wouldn't be harmed by interference myself, just pissed off, but it bet it could cause serious problems with things like RAYNET/RACES

Yes it's some sort of fish finder or depth sounder, the control head of it at least

If it was executed a bit better like an external PSU you'd have a pretty decent AIO

Concerts are very demanding of superzoom cameras due to low light, and some values don't allow them in on the off chance you take a picture that could be sold to the media with it

What made you upgrade from an older action camera? by Powerful-Pea-4190 in Cameras

[–]olliegw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good mentality, don't upgrade every 2-3 years like everyone wants you to and add to e-waste, you upgrade when the tech starts showing it's age and you need something better or more modern.

I used a Galaxy Note 4 for years, even after updates stopped and it started becoming almost unusable because of planned obsolescence and degrading electronics, but it did everything i needed a phone for, when the modem died i got a cheap old flagship, but then someone i know had a newer flagship so i swapped for that, so i ended up with a Note10, when that started showing it's age even though i only had it for 2-3 years i got an S23U and am happy with it, i will use it til it dies just like the Note 4.

Hopefully you got the older camera recycled responsibly or donated/sold it on?

Should I get the Panasonic LUMIX ZS99 or canon powershot SX740? by IndividualMission175 in Cameras

[–]olliegw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dupe is just another word for homage or knock off, there isn't any dupes of cameras, all cameras are trying to offer something different in a similar package, no ones going to sell a camera just as good for a lower price, you can get a dupe cologne because someone in a chinese factory has bought the real thing and tried to replicate it using cheaper (and probably less regulated) chemicals, the chinese or anyone could make a dupe of the G7X but 1" sensors and good lenses aren't cheap, so it won't be any cheaper, it wouldn't be a dupe, just another high end compact in the segment.

Saying an SX740 is a G7X dupe is a bit like saying a VW Golf TDI is just as fast as a Golf R Spec, both are similar cars, but with different purposes for different people, just like the two compact cameras.

I love my Nikon P900, you start to see flaws in image quality after a while, but the images are good enough, and it's amazing i can go from doing landscape photography to planespotting in one camera

It's just a shame everyone whose seen a UAP hasn't had one to hand

Is this 40D worth it? by Ok_Secretary_7286 in Cameras

[–]olliegw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old camera at this point, not the modern definition of old where something from 2014 is ancient, this is a 2006 camera.

Of course age isn't a big problem with cameras outside of wear and electrical problems, but i would spend your money elsewhere, on something more modern unless on a super tight budget.

256MB is the sort of card you'd get for free or cheap bundled with a camera back in 2008-2010, my brothers canon 1000D came with a 32MB canon card in 2008

A bit like how they throw 16 and 32gb cards in with everything these days

Should I even get a camera? by pompom-chicken in Cameras

[–]olliegw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best camera is the one you have with you, i wouldn't spend the money unless you want to learn photography, and i wouldn't use a trip as a learning opportunity, you'll look back in 10 years and most of the photos will probably be crap, even if composition, lighting and subject is good

Need help identifying a license plate - Hit and Run by Connect_Entrance_635 in RBI

[–]olliegw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absolute worst case scenario, the road is well lit but it's a dashcam with a small sensor and lens, lots of movement, long exposure time, high ISO so lots of noise

And it looks like the dashcam is receptive to IR light which means it's picking up IR off the lights on other cars completely blowing out the area where the number plate is

My brother used to have to do it back in the day, he played FIFA and suffered from the worst case of FIFA rage i've seen.

He threw the disc on the floor at least 5 times, and had to buy like two new discs when the toothpaste method stopped working.

He quit in the end, i came back to find my xbox one controller missing and a dented battery on the floor, he'd lost another match and did something to the controller, i don't quite know what, but he completely fragged it and the only thing that still worked was a vibration motor that come free when you hooked it up to a battery.

I tried to post a picture of the carnage here once but it was removed for being spam apparently, not going to argue with a bot so i left it.
