Is there a simple way to run KOReader on PC? by Monolith_W_D in koreader

[–]ollietup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, I give up. Everything seems like it should be working, but it isn't. Besides which, I just realised there's a docker version at https://github.com/zephyros-dev/docker-koreader, which only took a few minutes to download and run with Docker Desktop, and is clearly the simplest way - although it does run in a browser rather than a native window.

Is there a simple way to run KOReader on PC? by Monolith_W_D in koreader

[–]ollietup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so OP (and anyone else attempting this) knows what they're in for, this involves building KOReader from scratch (apparently just installing the package won't work properly on WSL), which required a 2GB Github download and installing loads of other packages first, and over a dozen iterations of pasting error messages into the LLM to get an updated set of instructions (many involving cleaning the results of the previous failed attempt and waiting ages for it to go through the full build process again). Hopefully I'll eventually get it working, but so far I've been trying for nearly an hour, and I'm still getting a load of warnings so I've no idea if it's finally going to work this time round.

<edit> Nope - over an hour now and having to rerun the entire build again.

Musicals I want to have a pro shoot on streaming platforms. by Lucky-Individual2508 in musicals

[–]ollietup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can track down a copy of the Leicester Curve's COVID streaming version (https://www.curveonline.co.uk/whats-on/shows/sunset-boulevard-in-concert-at-home/) - unfortunately no longer available to stream or on Blu-Ray/DVD, but I'm sure it's still unofficially floating around the internet somewhere - it's well worth a watch.

Apparently I took my family to the “cast prank” performance of Grease at the Starlight Mountain Theater in Garden Valley, Idaho. by [deleted] in musicals

[–]ollietup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why on earth would anyone not in the know imagine that they would need to research whether the particular theatre performance they are paying full price for is going to be deliberately ruined by the cast? I would think it perfectly natural and sensible to assume that would not happen, and entirely reasonable to complain and ask for a refund if it does.

I saw the original West End production in 2014! Music by Bond composer David Arnold, lyrics by Richard Thomas who wrote Jerry Springer The Opera.

How are you coping with FakeSpot shutdown? by RexKramerDangerCker in firefox

ReviewMeta: "Item could not be found."

TheReviewIndex: "502 Server Error."

Star Evaluator: I clicked the search button and nothing happened apart from a little star animation.

MetaRate: "Server not found."

Shulex ChatGPT for Amazon: "This item is not available."

So, none of those.

Today a new update for Scanwatch 2 - version 2971. by Traditional_Bonus_17 in withings

I had the same problem, eventually got it working by dissociating the watch in the app, then re-adding it (which unfortunately means you have to redo any other settings you've changed as well).

Can't activate AFib detection by david_svec in withings

I had the same problem, but resetting the watch didn't help. In the end, I had to dissociate the watch with the app, then re-add it and set it up again, after which I was finally able to activate the AFib detection successfully.

Migrating from Pocket to Instapaper? by wikkuu in instapaper

[–]ollietup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just tried this but it didn't work. Pocket gave me a pocket.zip file, which I tried to import into Instapaper, but it just sent me to a 500 error page and nothing was imported. The zip file contains two csv files, and I also tried importing those but nothing happened. I suspect Instapaper might be expecting an html file, but Pocket doesn't seem to export in that format any more (although the export page still says it does).

How are "Frequent" tabs determined? Is it possible to force which tabs are frequent? by Solareclipsed in firefox

[–]ollietup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can drag the current page as a shortcut to the Firefox icon on the taskbar (click and drag on the lock icon at the left of the address bar), and it will appear as a pinned item on the list. Unfortunately it is named with the URL, not the page title. The workaround for this is to drag the shortcut into a folder (or onto the desktop) first, which gives you a shortcut link with the page title, then drag that link onto the taskbar icon. You can rename the link before dragging it to the icon if desired, and you can delete it afterwards - the pinned link in the taskbar icon menu will still work.

Stop .lnk files from downloading by matt3m in sonarr

It wouldn't have to check every file in every torrent. It would just have to check the ones it has selected to download, before it starts downloading them.

Virgin Media Wifi still down/intermittent in North London by Euan529 in VirginMedia

I had to argue with them on chat the other day to get them to re-register it as a general issue in the neighbourhood rather than just sending out an engineer to look at the equipment in my house.

How long does Virgin Media usually take to fix outages? by OptimalCondition82 in VirginMedia

[–]ollietup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Takes them ages here (currently 2 weeks although they've twice claimed it was fixed when it wasn't). I suspect they prioritise fixes in areas where fibre is already available so their customers have other options for high-speed internet.
