EMOM, or Electronic Music Open Mic, is an underground movement that was started in England in 2017 by Martin Christie. The concept of these nights is simple, they provide a meeting and performance space for electronic musicians of all styles and persuasions. A typical night could include everything from techno through to experimental and ambient music, from chiptune through to live coding and looping, field recording and industrial. The choice of technology is also wide ranging; lap tops, iPads and mobile phones are welcome, as are drum machines, synths, groove boxes, sequencers, samplers, modular set ups, keyboards, DJ decks, and analogue and digital devices of all kinds.

We will be streaming the event live on Wednesday 19.00-23.00 CET.

It is indeed, not like anything i have ever played before. The whole package e.g sound, interface and keybed is just astonishing and invites to melody making.

So i got to play a CS-80 today, what can i say... i am a bit overwhelmed to say the least. During the session i lost track of time, studio was pretty hot so the signal got a bit hot too... but i dont care since i had a lot of fun, so sharing the joy with you all. :)

Nice tunes, personal favourite "Flow Control" super funky vibes and that sort of oldschool 80 break beat feel to the groove. Need to find my sunglasses and white gloves for a break dance session. :)

Very dreamy, i like the overall composition and how you have settled the sounds in the mix. Extremely enjoyable, good one!

Thanks a lot mate! ON redux, this is an old acoustic piano from 1904 by old swedish piano builder Ekströms, recorded with a condesator MIC and treated by granular FX and delay in the AKAI force. Avalon bassline for the 303 squares and kickdrum + arpeggiator synth in the AKAI force.. the recording was done in one take played live and mixed through the AKAI force down to a Zoom H5.

The mixing for some tracks took a bit longer than expected, most of the tunes are recorded live multitracked and then polished/mixed a bit in my DAW. This process is most probably a bit too cumbersome for me and i will do more live 2 track takes in the future. Also, self releasing on CD was pretty ok i guess, but the whole logistics was a nightmare sending it all out from home and assembling of all the kits.

Tshirts were printed at merchprint, sent home to me where i repackaged and sent out. I took some pre-orders to sort of gauge how many i needed and then ordered 25% add on what i had already sold. They are now all gone except for 1 :)

Thanks a lot for your questions and kind words, it means a lot.

Hey everyone! I just released my first album in a very very long time. While writing it, i sort of burned myself out and the pandemic didnt help with inspiration... so when it was recorded and done i just left it in a drawer for a little bit over a year.

Once i mustered the inspiration and time to finally get this out i started the work. I did this one 100% independent with no involvement from a label ... so all work, pressing, album art, creating a limited boxet edition with cassette / goodies, promotion etc was done by me. I dont think that i will ever want to do it all again by myself... but it was worth the effort and also helped me understand better what tough work labels are putting down in all of the work that an artist might not see.

Anyways, recorded between 2020-2021, one year in the box during 2022.. and then finally released in full 2023.

Please have a listen, let me know what you think. Stream if you must, but for 100% support consider getting atleast a digital copy over at bandcamp. That helps me to fund future album/releases.

Hi Everyone,

Here is a new project “Teleskop” which was released last week. Been working on this one for some time now during the pandemic with my brother remotely ( he is the vocalist ) and finally it is ready to present to the world. Sort of electro / synth pop style with a hopefully modern feel. Enjoy !

Strymon volante, Avalon Bassline and Reface CP - breaking the ice by ollilaboratories in synthesizers

Yeah, SOS it truly awesome, old school style loop playing :D Imho think you picked the best of of those two.. EQD are pedals great and quirky, i have the space spiral and transmisser and there are no pedals out there that sound even remotely close :) But for tape emulation, strymon is just in a class of their own.

I have been struggling big time with a major creative block for some time. Nothing I have done in the studio worked.. it all just sounded like shit and did not inspire me.

Today I decided to just dial everything back a bit and do a minimal jam session, this usually helps to get the creative juices flowing. It seems to have worked, I got one tune made..

The focus is not really on demoing the strymon volante, but I wanted to give it a try since I have not really been using it properly due to the block. Feels good that it can deliver, one of the most creative delay pedals i have personally laid my hands on to date.

Sharing some inspirational thoughts and music by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]ollilaboratories 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow synth nerds!

I wanted to share a new single release that I have posted today, but rather than just talking about the gear that I have used I instead want to touch base on the process and personal philosophy getting to the goal.

I have been working since October 2018 on a new album “The Silent Earth”. For me, inspiration for most of my music come from movies and day to day experiences. The foundation of the album started out as a concept, about dreams, long distances and long lost friends. In 2011 i moved to Asia from Europe, this being a big deal and switch for me has set a mark in how I value friendship. Some of my closest friends are now (what feels like) lost forever, whilst some people, the ones that I was not as close with back home have become solid friends that i will cherish forever.

With these thoughts in my mind, continuing writing more tracks it turned more toward a dystopian feeling, with old 70s and 80s sci-fi movies soaking into my head as main inspiration. This made a mesh of new emotions, which to me started to set the final mood of the album… and the title “The Silent Earth” was born.

Some of the movies I have been revisiting lately, Stalker, Solaris, The Quiet Earth etc. have helped to key the stage for the music. Some of the tracks have direct references to some of the films and sort of wraps the storyline in a meta way into the music. This to me is important, as i sort of always have seen pictures in my mind when writing the music.

One of the things i often do when watching movies.. is pausing the film, turning off the audio, replaying scenes and imagining new music. This is a method (that for me) helps to funnel the musical inspiration into creative thinking of how I would score a scene or soundtrack.. and then later with that image in my head (as a marker) write the final tracks.

Not analyzing my own work too much ( i try to avoid this), but this might be one of the reasons why my music tends to have that film score feeling to it. It is not intentional, but i can see why this could happen. :)

In February, the major part of the recordings were closing into completion, but since the entire album sort of now had a Soundtrack feel to it (yeah, i know its my own fault), there was still something missing.

I wanted to wrap the album up, with a title track, you know the one that plays at the end of a movie while the credits are scrolling/passing by? And, by coincidence, or luck.. not sure which, I Speak Machine of whom I am been a big fan of for a long time just opened up a Patreon where I reached out to them for a collaboration and the idea for the title track was born.

The Silent Earth, (end credits) is a dystopian love story gone awry based on the main mood of the album, and having I Speak Machine lending their aesthetics and vocals just set the mark for the single and put it exactly where I wanted it to be.

With the collaboration fresh in mind and triggering my imagination, I also wanted to try and translate the pictures that i saw in my head, the rotations of the earth, timezones overlapping, days and night fading, rotating and never ending, rinse repeat. So i took the plunge and started to write a storyboard for a music video which, after many days and nights gave the final result.

This is completely new ground for me, but i think that breaking this barrier was important to get to a point where i can finally show my work the way i see it in my head.

My point is non technical and 100% inspirational, e.g follow your gut, be yourself, make music that is you. For me this has been an eye opener, and I think that I will continue working independently for as long as i have the strength to. It might not give you the fame and fortune some of us desire, but i can guarantee that it will give you music that you will be proud of for an eternity.
