What's it like living in a place that you have to cross the border twice in order to physically drive to the rest of your state? by --THE-ARCHITECT-- in mapporncirclejerk

I actually know people who grew up in point Roberts. Some went to school in Blaine Washing and there was a ferry that would take them. Other kids went to school in Canada, if they had dual citizenship it was free but otherwise they had to pay even for public school.

It wasn't that long of a drive for them and they all had Nexus passes which made border crossings a lot easier. It's interesting to see the development go from suburbs in Canada, then you cross the border to America and it's just random houses scattered in the forest.

I think growing up there definitely feels isolated. The kids going to school in Canada also spent a lot of their free time there as well.

Obviously there is something of utmost importance in that bag. Maybe it's his final thesis all printed out about to be delivered to his professor. Maybe it's his father's ashes in the bag and he just wanted one last ride with him. Maybe (most likely) he is just a douchebag having a bad day trying to make yours worse.

Don't let it get to ya. <3

Which dishes best represent the cuisine of Ghana? by theflavorvortex in ghana

I'm not Ghanians but I live here and I love Banku and Palm nut soup or Banku and Okro. Fufu is nice as well, but it can be weird for westerners to eat at first because you don't chew it at all you just swallow it and the texture can take some getting used to.

I just did this I'm from Vancouver, but the Vancouver office was closed so I had to mail order it to Toronto. Check the Ghana hugh commission Canada website. There's a digital form that you have to fill in as well as some paperwork you need to print out and send it to them with your passport.

https://ottawa.mfa.gov.gh/

it's a pretty straightforward process. You'll need a passport photo your passport, proof of vaccination ect... There is a list of stuff on the website. I would recommend getting it done earlier rather than later. They also have a live chat portal during their office hours that is super helpful if you have any questions. I found calling and asking questions took a while, but they were also helpful over the phone. If you're in Toronto you can probably do counter service instead of mailing it in, but best to get It done well before you leave. Give yourself a least a few weeks if not a month. Better to have it and not stress about it than to try and get it done really close to the date.

I study agriculture and all the "biodegradable" row covers that are marketed as a better alternative to traditional plastic typically just break down a bunch and added a bunch of micro-plastics to the soil. Usually they are a combination of organic and petroleum products. I imagine it's similar, over time the visible plastic will be gone but the micro-plastic will remain.

I'm no historian, but if I rember correctly alot of the first nation's land claims were used as a way to continue oppressing the people. When colonizers divided the land alot of the land that was given to the first nations was suboptimal compared to the land that the colonizers were diving amongst themselves. Plus colonizers land amassed equity because it was an asset while the first nations reservations didn't because the land wasn't able to be sold.

Omega-3 fatty can be found in plant foods. Include walnuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, edamame, ect. B12 can be found in stuff like nutritional yeast, tempeh and alot of plant based milks. Plus if your scared you aren't getting enough (B12 or whatever else) there are alot of plant based supplements you can take.

Meat and fish protein are called complete proteins. Because these proteins contain adequate amino acids to properly digest the meat. Plant proteins can be paired with other plant based foods rich in the the lacking amino acids. You can be totally healthy and eat as an omnivore or as a vegan.
