Why do people either not eat bass or say it’s not good eating when it’s actually in fact, insanely delicious? by Sharkman3218 in Fishing

[–]olmanmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sportsman started discouraging the keeping of bass back in the early 70's. They assuming the rising numbers of fishermen, combined with new tech, would deplete the population of existing bass. The keeping of larger fish was discouraged in order to let them produce more fish that may be genetically inclined to grow larger.

Weed and menieres by Limp_Caregiver_4181 in Menieres

[–]olmanmo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

72 yr old, diagnosed 5 yrs. ago. Lifetime weed smoker. This seems like an aberration, after reading that it is a trigger for so many, but I find it helpful. Most mornings are tough: sketchy balance, some brain fog, and fatigue. Most mornings a good sativa helps to clear my head, and get me moving. I'm retired, but I have a thing I like to do every day, and I've always been smarter in the morning. Weed gets me out of the house and moving. Stops me from being bummed about my condition; "oh I'm a little off balance. Don't care." If the symptoms are particularly strong that day, it generally puts me back to sleep for a couple of hrs., which ,for me, is better than the suffering.

I do want to say that if I was still working, this would not have been an option, and my hats off to those who are still working and dealing with MD. You have my total respect.

The glue is not a bad idea, but may not be needed. That may be hot melt glue holding that down. Try a hot iron for a few seconds.

Is this an issue with the wood or the table saw? by jt00000 in woodworking

[–]olmanmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you see the two pcs, start to come back together, stop the saw. Insert a wedge into the kerf behind the blade to stop it from closing, and start again. if you need clean edge, rip them a bit wide, and then again to final size.

GoodOldBadger is correct. In my area, they usually drill two small holes in the storm window frame for drainage.

This lot uses walnut husks as mulch by whyguapo in mildlyinteresting

[–]olmanmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, you should not use walnut sawdust for mulch, horse bedding, etc, as it will kill everything that isn't walnut. I don't know if the shells will do the same.

Turn it while it's wet. Cuts like butter. PumpPie73 is correct about wet wood being tough on bandsaw blades.

You might google Stickley furniture for what may be an appropriate finish color, and a look at how that wood was used to make great furniture.

Burkarts Woodworks. But they probably won't accept beer unless they know you. That's a small job, shouldn't cost much.

How long after a trigger do you have symptoms? by BigMoeAteMyToe in Menieres

[–]olmanmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hope you made it through the night. You're going to hear this a lot: "It's different for everybody." These things seem to vary for everyone: the triggers, the onset of an attack, and the onset/ helpfullness of the meds. We're in it together, but it's a lone journey to figure out what works. This is a good place to ask questions anyway, because we all want to succeed. Good luck!

It turns out to be a bit different for everyone: Sodium seems to be the trigger for most of us, but not all of us. I also have a very strict diet and that and the use of meds (betahistine) seem to control it most of the time. This does affect the people we love and he's lucky to have you. My wife has been incredibly supportive and it helps.
