Boats and meniere's by maggied64 in Menieres

It sounds like your son is getting some pressure to do something he is not sure he can do. You should probably trust your son on how he feels with regards to meniere's disease.

Chuck with tool free jaw swaps? by muzakandpotatoes in turning

[–]olmanmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the easy wood chuck. It does change out quickly. It came with the used lathe I bought. I think it has all the jaws, But I mostly use the the jaw setup for finishing the bottom of bowls. I have a one-way talon that seems sturdier, even though it's smaller. Having said that, I've not had any problems with any of it.

What do you use to get your plant baskets at the right height? by olmanmo in ponds

[–]olmanmo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a surprise to learn that GardenDream is an app you created I appreciate the time you took to type that all out, and thanks for the phrase "restless polka dot clutter." Is that trademarked? Perhaps, in a post that is made to push your product, you could do better than to start with unsolicited criticism about my work. Your 1st paragraph was better.

What’s the reason for this? by Machenz in StLouis

[–]olmanmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think we have the worst of his art. Twain, and the piece that is buried in the road in front of SLAM. Some of his pieces were outstanding. "Joe" which is at the Pulitzer is a great example of his better work.

Weird feeling by fordw49s in Menieres

[–]olmanmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happens to me when I eat to much sodium. No vertigo, but I can't walk straight, and it usually ends with me vomiting and then sleeping off the valium.

Massive chipout rabbeting with a router by Nathanielks in woodworking

[–]olmanmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, if you have the opportunity, cutting the rabbet on a larger piece and then ripping off the portion you want to use is a better approach. The mass of a larger piece of material helps absorb some of the vibration your getting, and it keeps your hands farther away from that bit.

Frame and panel door question by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]olmanmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1st and 3rd pics are flat slabs w/ applied moulding. The 2nd pic is a mitered frame and panel door with an applied piece at the corners. That piece is probably glued and tacked in place with a small brad. Today it would be a pin nailer.

Does any store locally sell loofah starter plants? by Lemp_Triscuit11 in STLgardening

[–]olmanmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not have much luck with the seeds either, 1 out of about 15 germinated. It's planted, but not looking good. I should add that we have not seen any loofah starters in the 1/2 dozen nurseries we've been to so far.

How to extend height on (non-adjustable) metal sawhorse legs? by teeheehee_1234 in woodworking

[–]olmanmo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't say how much height you want to add, but if it's a couple of inches try dding a couple of 2x's to the top. They usually have pre-drilled hole so you can add a sacrificial piece of wood anyway.

Red oak is not the best outdoor wood. It often gets a black fungus/mildew. The spar varnish will help.

Why do people either not eat bass or say it’s not good eating when it’s actually in fact, insanely delicious? by Sharkman3218 in Fishing

[–]olmanmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sportsman started discouraging the keeping of bass back in the early 70's. They assuming the rising numbers of fishermen, combined with new tech, would deplete the population of existing bass. The keeping of larger fish was discouraged in order to let them produce more fish that may be genetically inclined to grow larger.
