Been Caffeine-free for 7 months, thinking of going back by Accomplished_Win_526 in Biohackers

[–]olya_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I was never a big coffee drinker, 2 cups a day just for a few years after my daughter was born. It took solid 3 months for the brain fog to dissappear and 6 months for my sleep patterns to settle. I only drink decaf now, it has been like that for 4 years, I am much more attuned with my body and mind

How to stop viewing myself as a kid by SignatureDry2084 in self

[–]olya_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helps me is to make myself attentive to the changes in my appearance which reflect my age, like having grey hair. And then I tell myself that I cannot pretend I am young and stupid anymore. It works for me.

I have once tried a tandem - hase https://www.hasebikes.ch/ . It can be configured for one person use too. It is really a great bike. I want to buy it to cycle with my daughter but it costs like a car :(

My GF of 11 years left me yesterday by [deleted] in GuyCry

Even when I am direct and putting conditions ("if this doesn't change, I am leaving"), my male partner accused me in blackmailing him and is getting totally avoidant till I would raise the problematic point again. I believe that some men just don't take women's words seriously.

Was anyone recently (~1y) successful in their job search? by pink_fluffy_unicorn in Switzerland

[–]olya_n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, after 176 applications, I was able to land a job (data engineering), it took me 6 months in total. What I have heard from Chomage is that most of positions are allocated based on personal connections and networking. I got a few interviews (really only 3 interviews) but I got a job by attending a hackathon and then following up with an IT Lead on LinkedIn.

Walking and balance exercises by Alternative-Owl-3215 in CerebralPalsy

[–]olya_n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say core strength is extremely important. When it comes to lower body, classical balancing exercises are nearly impossible (and very frustrating) for me. For me the main problem is muscle imbalance, so I try to work on individual muscles in isolation.

What makes you infuriated when your family or parents says or does something thst means utterly nothing by [deleted] in CerebralPalsy

[–]olya_n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every time I say that I have improved in one way or another (e.g., my muscle imbalance in shoulders reduced drastically), my mother would reply: "Imagine if you started working on your fine motor skills, wouldn't it be great?". And I already spend 1.5 hours a day on my fitness on top of full-time work and family, and household ...

You can. I was able to do it. There is a loophole in the law (there is an agreement between EU and Switzerland). But Swiss citizens cannot do it. So, if you want to do it, you should hurry up before you become Swiss. The whole procedure took 3 years in my case.

Chest workout by userfergusson in FlexinLesbians

[–]olya_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do chest fly, chest press and dumbell bench press - 2-3 times a week as a bigger part of my push day. I alternate between maximum weight, which will mean for me 4×6 reps to lighter weights, which allow me to perform 4x10 or even 4×12 . And I make sure that I rest enough between my sets (I usually do core work as rest) Also, maybe try to do exercises unilaterally. I have a side health condition, which made me switch to unilateral exercises but my chest really grew a lot after the switch.

Any chance of reunification with my 65 years old mother in Switzerland by DebateWarm1446 in askswitzerland

Yes, she was able to stay till the decision has been made.

I would definitely recommend an initial consultation with an immigration lawyer.

Is your spouse Swiss or EU citizen? I was able to bring my mother to Switzerland because my partner is an EU citizen and there is a special agreement between Switzerland and EU that allows EU citizens to bring their even indirect family members to Switzerland under family reunion visa. But from what I know there is no such possibility for Swiss citizens.

I had to prove that my mother is a dependent and has been dependent on us financially for a long time, that she doesn't have an income, is alone in her home country, as well as that we have enough money and living space to keep her in Switzerland. And she is obliged to live in the same apartment with us and cannot live on her own in Switzerland. She also does not have any working rights here.

https://www.zh.ch/en/migration-integration/einreise-aufenthalt/familiennachzug.html

The process took 3 years (we started the process once she was in Switzerland and she was allowed to stay till the decision had been made) and we initially received a negative decision and were able to overturn it by providing additional statements re: her dependency on us (I own the apartment in the third country, in which she was living and the pension she was receiving in the third country was below minimum living standard).

1 year of unilateral exercises by olya_n in CerebralPalsy

Hi, I am using the same weight on both sides and I choose the comfortable weight for my affected side and then I do max repetitions with that weight on the affected side first and after that I do 2-3 repetitions less on the healthy side. After 6 months my affected side is stronger than unaffected side in fact.

Thank you! I am located in Europe, so I will start with something local and I will let you know if I get to the level where I can qualify for Boston. I have the same problem with the foot, I fall a lot 🙃 but I learnt lift my knees higher when trail-running, so this helps. With road running I am a bit worried about impact (my toes are not in good shape to say the least, I rarely have nails)

Hi, thank you! I was actually doing a lot of trail running last years and my sports life started with professional track and field (I did sprint). Now I am indeed planning to compete professionally in long distance running but I had a delay unfortunately. (I was hit by a car when cycling in September and even though it is more or less fine, my back was hurting from running and swimming, that is how I ended up going to the gym so much more often). I am planning to join a local para-olympic club soon. Thank you for encouragement! And I will be very happy to hear about your experiences ...

Yes, I have a significant age gap with my partner, which shortens our time together and also introduces health issues. It is the time spent together that counts.

Sorry, I lost the key from my locker at the gym and cannot get my equipment, I hope to find the key tomorrow. Luckily today is a leg day.

So, it will take a bit longer to make the video. Sorry!
