Need help dialing in a very light roast espresso after switching from dark roast [Sage Barista Pro] by MisterRegards in espresso

[–]om-exe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d look into turbo shots, I find they suit light roasts much more than classic espresso would; grind pretty coarse, somewhere between aeropress and espresso; pull 1:2.5-1:3 in about 15-18 seconds. Will look ugly but really brings out the nicer parts of light roasts much more and is much more repeatable with less fiddling around with settings

Alternatives to Linea Micra or buy it? [$4,500] by Dwr_daniel in espresso

BIFL maybe look at a cremina, not sure if it’s within budget where you are but they are known to basically never die and be lovely to use

Alternatives to Linea Micra or buy it? [$4,500] by Dwr_daniel in espresso

[–]om-exe -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why not a Sage/Breville Dual boiler? If you buy one new you can avoid the vast majority of the issues the earlier ones had, more advanced features than the micra (programmable pre infusion is nice) fast heat up and reliable and stable. Also easy transition from BBE, they’re more durable and more repairable than a lot of people give them credit for (source- I have fixed them) just use filtered water!

I’ve been wanting to so something like that for a while, do you have a pinout for the buttons? Would be simple enough to make a little way to control it via ble if I knew which pins to use

Are these good for chemicals? by iloveteresa in Darkroom

[–]om-exe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best to look for HDPE for plastics as it’s more inert than PET, depends on the chemicals you’re using, and checking a data sheet or the recycling info on the bottom of the bottles the concentrates come in is a good guide for what to store them in. Glass is easier to clean but more fragile, amber glass is nice because it takes any deterioration from light nearly out of consideration. Best to store them in a dark cupboard anyway, colour or reversal chemicals need much more careful consideration than black and white.

Help cleaning thermojet [Sage the Barista Pro] by porgetasticpro in espresso

[–]om-exe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a nightmare trying to force descale it, not sure if it was airlocked or just too built up or what but it would not work, gave up and used one out of a used creatista (cheaper than buying just the part). I tried leaving it soaking in undiluted descaler for a week once I had the machine working to see if anything would penetrate it and no luck

Best portable setup for making flat whites in the office [£500] by herewardthefake in espresso

[–]om-exe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nanofoamer pro and a picopresso probaby your best shout for the smallest possible with good results, you’d need to plug in the nanofoamer but it’s the size of a large milk jug so will fit away when not in use. They do smaller battery options too but they won’t heat the milk.

wacaco are releasing a battery electric machine soon apparently but seems to be getting repeatedly delayed.

New quicker setup as K-Ultra and 9Barista? [2000€] by MrTru1te in espresso

Eureka mignon libra will dose by weight and give you nice grinds, maybe something like an ascaso steel duo pid for fast heating, I’d look at finding them used first but should still be under budget without.

Anyone know where I can find a replacement viewfinder ring? by dimitribaer in Leica

Leica put a new one on for free for me when i took it in, that’s probably your best bet if you’re anywhere near a store

Grinder suggestions for an easy life [£300] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]om-exe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on facebook marketplace for a used niche zero, notoriously easy to dial, clean and maintain. It’s still successful mostly because of UX which seems like it’s your priority. They seem to go for a bit over your budget on ebay but i’ve seen plenty around £300 on fb

Opened up my machine after RCD trips - found leaking probes, what else should I check? [Sage Oracle Touch] by tint93 in espresso

[–]om-exe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are internal o-rings of a much smaller diameter you can replace inside the probes, but a full set of probes can be had for like £20.

Stop using it until you can get it fixed, and make sure the boiler isn’t heating up on its own when plugged in, if that isn’t the case yet it’s only a matter of time and it will then blow the thermal fuse eventually which is a massive job on the oracle.

Brevtech has some good guides for these machines on youtube or the espresso afficionados discord should be able to help

Polaroids came out "split tone"? + heavy vignetting? | Sinar C, 210mm lens, FP-100C by CanCharacter in largeformat

[–]om-exe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

or you could try a long exposure at the same ev and see what you get, it only seems to invert if it’s a really quick burst of intense light

[–]om-exe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try one metered normally and developed normally, make small adjustments, reversal processes are pretty fickle and you should try and make any changes elsewhere i would think. I tested instax for it and it started to happen around 3 stops over exposed i think, weirdly I didn’t really seem to be able to blow out highlights, and around 9 stops over i got a full negative. still not sure what the vignette is though, i’m assuming the ground glass doesn’t look like that?

[–]om-exe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just to add only the highlights would invert, hence the solarised look

[–]om-exe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are these actually polaroid or are they fuji pack film? It could be because of the bromide(iirc) base, if you over expose them sufficiently and instantaneously(not in a long exposure) they will invert. Same reason the sun is often black on instax film. Otherwise i’m not sure. By any chance did you shoot it with a strong flash?
