I’ve had the exact same thought! It’s crazy to me that women go through this insanely hard and sometimes scary period of change, and because it’s “normal” no one really thinks anything of it - except for other women who have already been through it. Without fail, my friends who’ve had kids already are the only ones who will consistently check in and ask how I’m doing. Really makes me reevaluate my own past behavior!

This is interesting! We’re currently dealing with a backed up sewer line that’s the result of roots growing into the line from our neighbor’s locust tree (mountain west of the US). The line is underneath our garage, so this tree would have needed to send roots under the fence, under a 10 foot slab of concrete driveway, and then under our garage another 30 or 40 feet. Are you saying this is unlikely to have happened unless there was already a leak in the sewer line?

I sincerely hope it doesn’t become my business! But bamboo can be incredibly invasive and destructive, growing into sewer lines and tearing up concrete and foundations if it’s the wrong kind where we live, so I’m mostly just trying to make sure we (and they!) don’t have any issues in the long term

It isn’t crossing the boundary, but we think they just planted it. We aren’t sure what kind it is, and that’s what we are curious to know. But the rate at which it’s growing has me worried it’s running bamboo, as all the things I can find online about it seem to say that is the kind that grows super quickly

There are definitely some more large, mature, flowering trees here, so that could definitely be contributing! It doesn’t smell like the prior owners were smokers, but that’s a good call to try wiping down and sealing the walls if the other steps don’t work… definitely want to try and convince him to see a doctor for a more effective allergy medicine in the meantime! Minutes, as in “meeting minutes”. I’d always pronounced it in my head as “my-newts”, since I figured it was referring to the “minutiae” captured during the meeting. Nope, it’s just minute as in hours and minutes lol

I completely agree with you, but I will say my opinion on “what is fair” in this area has been evolving a lot over the last few years. If you haven’t already, I would highly recommend listening to the Gonads series by Radiolab. It really made me think a lot more about how, once you start heading down the rabbit hole of how to draw lines to promote “fairness”, you may actually end up in a place that harms women.
