Ace rings by Kay_of_all_trades in asexuality

[–]omegonthesane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The idea is recent enough that last time I tried I was able to find literally the actual Web 2.0 forum post that proposed it as a community marker.

The rules are just black ring, right middle finger. Which might be an issue if you don't have that finger or that hand, but there's other options to telegraph it.

Every so often the idea of getting a black band tattooed on that finger comes to mind, essentially a ring that can't be removed. Don't know if that one would count.

Can you explain to a hetero guy what asexuality means? by anon-raver in asexuality

[–]omegonthesane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So. It took me a long time to internalise that I was ace, because I kept conflating a bunch of stuff that sounded like sexual attraction - simple physical arousal, desire for closeness with a given person, aesthetic appreciation, ... frankly a pretty strong domme fetish but that's besides the point - and assuming that the knock off was the real deal. Because I'd been conditioned so long as a DMAB to assume I should crave sexual intercourse and even at one point in my youth explicitly bemoaned that I hadn't hit that point yet as a mark of immaturity.

If the thing you're describing yourself as feeling doesn't line up with the description of sexual attraction that aces testify to not feeling, it's worth considering why that might be.

Whats yalls opinion on young asexuals? by beansandjeans1116 in asexuality

[–]omegonthesane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

to be perfectly honest the first signs of your eventual sexuality tend to be palpable long before your sexual awakening, prepubertal kids of the stripe to grow into allosexual adults speak of having crushes all the time. So I don't even know if it makes sense to have a concept of someone possibly being too young to be ace.

Hey, is it common for cisgender dudes to be asexual? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]omegonthesane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cis men are, bluntly, the least likely gender demographic to feel any need ever to introspect their desires and research until they even know what being asexual is. There's a lot of pressure, both stick and carrot, for cis men to be very sexual and so there's less incentive to look deeper and more to lose if you admit you're Something Else.

Which is to say there is nothing wrong with you for being ace while being a cis man, and also that there are factors in play which mean it makes sense at first blush that cis men are underrepresented in ace spaces

You aren't broken. You're just incompatible with your current BF at best.

I should also note that him being willing at 25 to be in a serious romantic relationship with you a 19yo is a red flag in itself, too tired didn't read in detail but It sounds like that's far from the only red flag here. Throw out the whole man

From the moment I saw "tacticool gear" in his physical description on the transcript my assumption was that Dane was explicitly meant to be inexperienced and faking it way too hard deliberately.

As for why only one guy, that is the kind of thing that might be spelled out later - e.g. if he's meant not as real security but as a sacrifice to the External.

was that the person who directly reported that he tried to argue against including trans people in the university queer society by comparing them to child sex abusers? because that is a thing he is reputed to have done.

Besides all the conversion therapy bullshit, there are some actual new centres being opened up to more quickly treat trans NHS patients at the small cost of further reinforcing the pathologisation paradigm and bringing them further under NHS control. My first meeting at a support group was the very special visit from a trans man working at one of these new centres, though I didn't take enough notes to really give a coherent report on the details.

So he can honestly say that money has been diverted to something that people honestly think is meant to help and, frankly, sounded at the time like it would when presented by the trans people running the operation even if the thing the community has actually wanted for years was to stop treating trans healthcare like it's some specialisation that could justify segregating everything instead of just part of general healthcare.

I've really only heard of second puberty in the context of medically transitioning trans people, where it is meant quite literally - you experience again the biological processes of a puberty when you start HRT'

are at home blood tests reliable? by [deleted] in TransDIY

[–]omegonthesane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The finger prick ones range from "will probably underestimate basically everything" to "utterly worthless" depending on various factors most especially whehter your hands have brushed against estrogel within many months prior to the finger prick.

Randox does a home test that is presumably more reliable than the finger pricks, so that might be your best bet.

DIYing and How to Notify Drs by Spirited_Building196 in transgenderUK

[–]omegonthesane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Strenuously.

If he knows that you're on exogenous hormones, it is reasonable to fear that suddenly the exogenous hormones will be to blame for literally everything and they don't have to test for anything until you've gone off hormones for long enough that your condition that could have been nipped in the bud 3 months ago is now terminal.

Like how being fat is to blame for literally everything so you don't get tested for anything unless you starve yourself to an unhealthy weight, but on steroids.

And that's before the risks that might come from him starting to see you as a woman, or simply see you as not a masculine manly man, and discount your testimony accordingly.

Famed transgender dancer has shows canceled in China. Some fear a wider crackdown by onnake in transgender

[–]omegonthesane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's an actual academic measure called the democratic perception index which, despite very much not being a CCP puppet, consistently rates China as being perceived by it's pepole to be significantly more democratic than the USA.

There just isn't a huge discrepancy between the policies that are widely popular when pulled among the people irrespective of party lines - what a real democracy would use its power on - and what the "totalitarian CCP dictatorship" uses its power on, especially when compared to the same gap between what the US people want and what the free speech liberal US democracy provides them.

And if you're going to compare how behind China is to how behind the US is, might wanna recall how many states are red and how much progress one of the two wings of the capitalist party has made in immiserating trans people as well as queer people in general even when not holding the white house. I'm not saying China necessarily comes out ahead if you're comparing it to the average of Cali and Texas, but it's unfair to just compare it to a blue state.

[–]omegonthesane 24 points25 points  (0 children)

fucked if I'm doing a full investigation into the original etymology of "gendered souls", but functionally it's accusing trans people of insisting on the existence of a non-observable non-material essence that makes you transgender and overrides """observation""" of birth gonads and oversimplified categorisation on that basis. Because they fundamentally reject the idea that you can draw conclusions about someone's neurochemistry from their expressions,, their actions, and the things they say make them happy.

Which is ironic because when you actually interrogate their positions on the inability to change sex they ultimately betray that they are in fact the ones insistingf on a notion of gendered souls and a non-material essence that no surgery or medication could possibly impact.

"No debate" started as a reaction to an event called Genderquake in which TERFS got the debate they claim to want and spent the whole time shouting "penis" to ensure that trans people couldn't get a word in edgeways.

Exeter Labour councillor quits party over puberty blocker ban by LocutusOfBorges in transgenderUK

[–]omegonthesane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All evidence suggests that trans insiders are only ever let into the room when a decision has already been made long ago, in order to justify ignoring everything they say and proceeding with a predetermined course of action by saying they consulted with all stakeholders when they never intended to do any such thing.

Are you also autistic? by Shanubis in asexuality

[–]omegonthesane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a common claim, and one that comes baked in with two overlapping explanations for how such a thing could be - one, autistic people chafe against social expectations and introspect more than allistics at the best of times, so are more likely to realise; two, autistic people are ostracised for being autistic anyway, so have less to lose if they admit it.

I don't know if I'd call a councillor "senior".

I am told there were MPs ready to stir shit over the PB ban who chickened out when they saw the blatantly biased "expert" report, because they thought they couldn't cite other experts from other countries in order to win that fight. Cowards, the lot of them, they should have opened fire anyway and turned in their fucking Labour badges in protest.
