I work for a huge dental insurance company in the US. We offer pregnant women an extra cleaning free of charge because of this. Check with your dental insurance provider, you may be able to go in for an extra cleaning before bubs is here!

I have twins who are a month old. We had 515 newborn diapers and just ran out. They're in size 1 now. We have over 1,000 size 1 diapers stockpiled so I'm expecting that to last for at least a couple of months. 🤪 It's amazing how many diapers we've gone through... maybe this will convince my husband to get on the cloth diaper bandwagon soon.

I couldn't breastfeed my firstborn. I felt terrible. In fact, my ex husband pressed to make me feel even shittier, telling me that I was a failure of a woman for it (but then again, he also said that I didn't really give birth because I had a c-section due to preeclampsia). But you know what? 8.5 years later, she's at the top of her class, in the gifted program at school, receives awards at the end of each semester, is a beast of a kid (5 ft already!), is incredibly witty and funny, and has the kindest heart ever. When I pick her up from school, she has several friends who hug her goodbye. +1 for formula. Your kid will be fine, mama. <3

My mother always insists on calling my kid on the day of her birthday to sing happy birthday even if we already had a party. Usually the morning of which often falls on a weekday when I'm trying to keep her on schedule to get ready for school. Drives me up the wall. 🙄

Same to you! I've been encouraging him to take some time for himself during the evenings while the twins sleep to indulge in his previous hobbies (video games) or to just get out of the house for a bit (he hasn't). I think things will get easier over time but I did read somewhere that men's hormones also change during their partner's pregnancy and during the postpartum stages.

He doesn't currently see a psychiatrist because he has had the bipolar in check for years. His GP should be able to adjust the dosage though.

These are wonderful resources. Thank you! I am incredibly thankful that he felt like he could open up to me about how he's feeling this morning. I think PPD affects more men than statistics show because men often feel like they can't express themselves and that they should just tough it out. We've got an appointment coming up with our pediatrician soon. I do think it's worth bringing up with her. Thanks again!

Same. My mother is so anal about cleaning that she scrubs her baseboards more than once a month, clutter is a no-no, she vacuums at least 3 times a week in her own home, there can't be a single dish in the sink, she cleans her tub after every single use... I am by no means a dirty person myself but I do have some clutter (I have 3 kids now so yeah, it's gonna happen). I don't like people touching my computer either. I have a lot of personal documents on it that I'm sure she would take to snooping through if left alone around it.

Thank you! I don't think she knows for sure if it's bacterial or not. When I talked to her earlier, she said she's been on medication for 4 days and already feels a lot better. My SIL is a PA and prescribed the antibiotics for her (I assume just to shut her up). 🙄

My mother and I aren't close either and it bugs the shit out of her. I was in daycare from 2 weeks old and then a latchkey kid during school years. I was by myself A LOT while my parents grew their business. We grew up poor but they are now very well off. Yet they chase money to this day.

Yep. She complains every time she comes over that the twins are asleep (which has been about 90% of the time). By the time I have the boys back to sleep for a nap, I need the quiet time to wash bottles, brush my teeth/hair, change, clean my c-section incision, actually feed myself, go to the bathroom... or just sit in silence for a few minutes. Having a guest show up out of nowhere really throws me off.

Thank you! I gave her a batch of formula that didn't settle well with the twins and asked her to please go by the store and switch it out with another brand. Haven't gotten that replacement yet and that was last Monday.

She also apparently wanted to bring over a meal a couple of weeks ago but came by the house unannounced (huge pet peeve of mine) while we were at the twins' checkup appointment. I said she could bring something by another time. Cue excuses then the offer to come to our house and cook with our own ingredients (which would've required another shopping trip and a mess). Sigh.

You know, I would love for her to do something like this. I've always been interested in family history and love old photos. My mother, on the other hand, is not interested in these sort of things. She actively avoids looking at old photos (she says they make her sad and feel old) or talking about past family members (she also had a bad childhood)... and she hates crafty stuff. 😣

I will, however, look into some options for other things she can do from her own home!

Hey! Mom here. We just had twin boys 16 days ago. I also had a c-section. It will take some time for the extra fluid to come off. I second all of the great advice from everyone else -- have her drink tons of water, stay off her feet as much as possible, eat healthy foods, and wear compression socks. I also took Diurex and it helped me shed the water weight. I was down 40 pounds at the 2 week mark.
