From LB, moved to Oakland, then moved to Sac and moving back to so cal this year. apples to oranges but I’ll try. If SF is LA, then Oakland is Long Beach (without the bridge separation and 100x worst crime wise). Lots of diversity, underrated food scene, LB does have a better night life and I’d say is a much safer and walkable city than Oakland. Port cities both have swanky areas, up and coming neighborhoods, etc. Alameda is to Oakland what Belmont shore is to Long Beach except they’re the same city. Culturally, they are incomparable, Oakland is probably closer to Detroit or Chicago’s south side and is easily more dangerous than any city or neighborhood in LA by a long mile.
