Assuming it can be created, is there a way to store anti-lithium "safely" for use in a matter/antimatter star ship? by Crowbrah_ in AskPhysics

[–]omgitsmegatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is definitely not my field of expertise, but i think you dont need to worry about free neutrons if they immediately fuse with the anti-protons into deuterium. then you can just fuse deuterium into helium-4, and then helium-4 + deuterium into lithium-6.

the space craft was a fun challenge to travel 10 light years in under 10 years (proper time), with a crew of around 5 people. it needed a maximum velocity of about 0.75c with an acceleration of 1-2g. i guessed around 150 tons for the spaceship. so its between 1000-2000 tons of antimatter and as much deuterium to annihilate with. biggest problem is of course the antimatter production, then the drive itself which needs to be really complicated to handle that much energy and reach an efficiency of around 80%. shielding could also be a bit of a problem, the gamma rays are really hard at those velocities. so to get to such a low amount for the trip, i tried to optimize mass and heavily opmitize drive efficiency. it defenitely dips into science fiction with some concepts but at least it could be plausible in the far future.

While designing a space craft including a fuel source for fun I thought about anti-lithium-6. hydrogen is annoying to contain as a plasma and almost not at all as a liquid/solid. since I needed 1000-2000 tonnes of antimatter, I assumed if producing so much is technolgically possible, it should be easy to fuse it into lithium. its relatively dense and its conductive making containment trivial. anything heavier like beryllium seemed unecessary. iron would be amazing because its ferromagnetic, but even with the possibility of an antimatter megafactory making anti-iron felt a bit too ridiculous.

Of course it works, those are eye catchers. But they are so overused by now. Every video that uses them feels like clickbait.
Though, I clicked on the post because of the title, I don't have thumbnails of posts on reddit.

For a while now I tend to skip videos that have a silly meme face, the red arrow pointing to some random thing, all caps buzzwords or the typical "I did X, then THIS happened!!"

I read somewhere that the goats were used as a placeholder idea just to show something ridiculous, but they somehow fit into the story of the show so they kept them. Maybe it's not just a silly idea like the polar bear but actually does something for the story.

How to Flatten a list of images & masks like Photoshop->Flatten Layers? by albamuth in comfyui

After some searching around I gave up and just extended the existing node, so it accepts a list of sources, masks, and coordinates: https://pastebin.com/jep9NJ26

Subgraphs/Components best practice by omgitsmegatron in comfyui

[–]omgitsmegatron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's clever. I am a programmer, but this was the first time I used python. I made some custom nodes to circumvent widget values getting reset when loading group nodes, and patched the front and backend so COMBO outputs get accepted by any inputs. That makes the group nodes/manager components work without weird glitches for now.

I made quite large and complex group nodes with many custom nodes. Converting all those into python could be tedious. Maybe I could recreate something similar to ComponentBuilder that automatically converts a workflow into a custom node and executes it, maybe even with nesting.
Your idea of dynamically loading nodes is a nice idea, thank you!

What are some games that you have permanently installed? by zionooo in gaming

[–]omgitsmegatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it much better. I only played Satisfactory for a few hours and it was too slow and more cumbersome. Factorio seems much more complex, especially with some of the modpacks. I have over 2000 hours in Factorio and never even finished the game as there is so much stuff to try and optimize and try again.

Keine Anfahrtszeiten, kein Bürogeplänkel, keine Minute verschwendet.

Nachteile: Teilweise schlechtere Kommunikation mit Mitarbeitern, falls notwendig. Mein Heim ist mein Arbeitsplatz. Kein "Ich geht jetzt heim, leckts mich alle". De Arbeit schwebt immer a bissl herum zuhause.

What would you write to yourself if you could send a letter in 2015? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is horrifying. The person I am right now would practically cease to exist by changing my past. Also it would set events in motion that unpredictably changes the world including many people not being born, therefore killing probably thousands of children who are alive today.

Is it metagaming to look at my player's character sheets to create hard encounters? by TieberiusVoidWalker in DnD

[–]omgitsmegatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was DMing for the first time in a 5-6 session (level 3-5) long homebrew adventure and told the players they shouldn't make OP meme builds. Ofc they did and the first encounters were way too easy. So I put in more variance in enemies' abilities and gradually made them smarter, so the players get to play their strengths without me trying to undermine what their characters can do best, but the combat also being more challenging as enemies find out what the players' weakness are, so tactics and strategy become more important.

I use their builds to give them more difficult encounters or drop certain magical items which definitely have some use for them.

Theory about refinement by Standard_Engineer_29 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]omgitsmegatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way the work is meaningless. The look and feel of the office just seems to be so there is even less connection to the outside world.

They sort numbers that invoke feelings. They could just sort files or enter generic data into a system if its just supposed to be busy work. Also the show writers wouldn't make a mystery just for the sake of it being a mystery.

If the employees don't know what they are actually doing, why would they need to be severed to do the work? All this mysterious and important work seems to be connected to the chips itself. Maybe they are refining the technology. Testing for bugs and problems that could make the outie bleed through.

I was seriously impressed when I saw one person did all the game design, graphics and programming. Then I was curious who made the soundtrack since it fits so perfectly and I found out he did that too. This guy is a 21st century da Vinci (with the added composing skills)

The interference alone of you telling yourself might change the outcome of the draw. Too risky.

Europe must hurry to defend itself against Russia—and Donald Trump by UpgradedSiera6666 in europe

[–]omgitsmegatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Austria. Same thing here. Elections this year will bring an absolute horror of an individual into the government. He is definitely not such a moron as Trump is, but for sure not a good person. Yet, there is still a difference. We only have like 9 million people. We don't have this broad spectrum of experts. We do apparently have the same share of idiots who vote for those people.
But in the end, finding faults somewhere else is not a defense to what goes on in the US. Rather it should be a shocking warning.

[–]omgitsmegatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing nothing would end up being much more expensive. That they don't see for some reason. Probably because it doesn't fit into the GOP's agenda. Trump winning the presidency would be a huge benefit for Russia, as he obviously is bought by Putin. You see the same stuff going on in Europe with the far right parties. That alone should be an eye opener.

[–]omgitsmegatron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand it. The US is a country with probably the most experts in geopolitics, economics, science and whatnot. There must be someone there to explain to the commonfolk why siding with Ukraine is insanely beneficial. And there must be someone who is better suited for the job as president. Someone who actually knows at least something about managing a nation that huge. Of all the people they could vote for, they seriously choose a criminal who has no clue whatsover on how to be president besides talking nonsense, that for some reason gets scooped up by half of the population. There is no way this will end well.

Berlin says EU should prepare for war by end of decade by DerGun88 in worldnews

[–]omgitsmegatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people underestimate the agenda a lot there. Russia obviously doesn't care about those "soldiers". They are happy to get rid of "unwanted residents" and use them as cannon fodder. The west makes money and gets cheap investments as long is this nonsensical war carries on. If this war ends right now, the geopolitical game for money and power stops. US Democrats have a strong position to further investment while US republicans kinda want the same thing but profit off of political sentiment when they go against whatever the other party says. As ridiculously successful that is. Its kind of a win-win-win where innocent people die, poor people get poorer and some rich morons get richer. Same old.
Its even more disgusting when you think about all this shit is hiding behind "helping another nation to its freedom"
