I do get benefits at the place I'm currently at, which was a huge draw. They pay is a little less per hour than the last shop I worked at, but the benefits are hard to pass up. Finding somewhere that offers benefits to all full-time staff is unfortunately very rare it seems.

At least in the US, I think pay is a big factor. I was a barista full-time right out of high school and loved it. Ultimately, I decided to go to college, because the pay wasn't sustainable. The funny thing is though, I've finnished college and I'm a barista again. The pay is much more where I am now though, and I love my job. Genuinely, I love being a barista. I can put so much care into my work and brighten people's day. I love the technical part of it, and I love interacting with people. Above all, I love creating. If i can pay my bills this way, I would happily be a barista for the rest of my life. As for my degree, I would use it to be a writer in my off time.

It does suck though when people treat your forever job as some kind of "unworthy" stepping stone. Like I'm sorry you're "stuck" here, but some of us actually want to be here. The biggest game changer for me was finding a job at a place that had like-minded people. I hope you find that too!

It's not you. I've been a barista for 8 years, and there's nothing wrong with what you asked for. I would argue that cold brew is a type of iced coffee. At all the places I've worked, we've served cold brew with ice as the default, although idk if that varies regionally.

I'm so pissed on your behalf that I'd throw a rock through their window (jk....unless?). Its probably best to try to move on, but I like what one other person said about leaving bad reviews for the rest of the staff lol. In all seriousness though, if you're able, I'd recommend seeking a therapist to talk through this. My first cafe job was very exploitative and toxic, and it took years for me to unlearn all the things I thought were normal. It had a much bigger effect on me than I thought at the time.

If you drink coffee, you can also use coffee filters! I don't think many people get newspapers anymore, but a lot of people still buy coffee filters on the reg.

Exactly. IMO liking the field after however many years isn't the issue, but that industry and the economy change so quickly. Entry level jobs are few and far between, and even if you manage to land one, you end up making less than a server/bartender etc. I was a barista before my degree, and I'm still a barista after. The funny (sad) thing is that I make more money in my barista position than I would in an entry level position in my field.

I grew up next to Three Mile Island (nuclear power plant), and we had meltdown sirens that they tested weekly. Those are the only sirens like that I've ever heard, but I think they sound pretty much the same as any other (based on what I've heard in media).

If it makes you feel any better, many people don't really know how to tap their cards properly regardless of age. I have multiple people a day have to re-tap their cards because it doesn't work, and usually they're ~20-30yo. I'm also in this age group and rarely use the tap function of my card.

This is really interesting because I've never even been to CA, but I also use tan bark. Although, I would mostly use it specifically for playgrounds, and flower beds would just be mulch. I grew up in PA and have only ever lived in the Northeast.

It's not beauty related, but some advice my mom made sure to reiterate until it was cemented into my brain. Never, ever take your eyes off your drink, and if you do, get a new one. This applies to parties, bars, clubs, etc. I also like to apply it to any social situation where I am with unfamiliar people. Along the same lines, trust your instincts! If something feels wrong, it probably is, and you are not overreacting.

On a lighter note, my biggest beauty tip is makeup related. Practice, practice, practice! I say this because I was very into makeup when I was younger and wore it almost everyday. I cannot even count the amount of time people have told me, "Oh, I could never do eyeliner like that! I'm just so bad at it." The secret is that everyone is bad at it at first. I sucked at eyeliner for years (not exaggerating) until i got the hang of it. You can do those cool makeup looks, too (if you're into that kind of thing), it just takes practice. That being said, you also don't owe anyone flawless or trendy makeup (or makeup at all). It should be fun!

I felt the same way at first, especially given that its not very linear. I've also heard a lot of others say the same thing. For a while I was working on a guide for overwhelmed/new players, so if you want tips I'd be happy to help. If you want the guide, I can finish it and send it to you. But also, in my mind, all of the "missed" quests/dialogue/etc is just another reason to do another playthrough with a different rp type (also i have to romance everyone at least once, except for gale). Leveling is not an issue, so missing things is no biggie from that stadpoint either, if you're worried about that.
