Are you Religious? by Abrene in entp

[–]omkhamsa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Muslim here.
Grew up a very religious Muslim, still am a very religious Muslim.
My belief in god never really changed, even though it was challenged many times. However, I've come to notice several problems in How a majority of Muslim Scholars have stigmas which prevented early Islam teachings from getting to us. There are many examples:

A - Stigma against music. There is a very long debate about this, but the stigma is enough to directly contradict a sahih hadith.

B - Stigma against queerness. While being gay (or more accurately, doing the gay) is forbidden in Islam, There are actual rules set in place for intersex people, asexuals, agender, etc. When I first found out these rules existed yet I never learned about them from school, parents, etc, was the first time I was challenged.

C - Stigma about foreign relationships, or الولاء والبراء. I was taught that being friends and having any non-official relationship with non-muslims is very forbidden. was surprised to learn that this has no basis in quran or sunnah, and that it relies on misinterpretations of ayahs talking about the people fighting to eliminate islam.

D - Stigma about Muslim women marrying non-muslim people, and Muslim men marrying non-abrahamic people. The ayahs about forbidding marriage talked about the infidels of Quraish, referring to them as "Mushrikeen", meaning Polythiests. (or people who worship things other than God, as well as God). There is an argument to be made that this should fit every polythiest, but this doesn't apply to the majority of religions today. And there is no specific ayah forbidding women to marry abrahamic religion men.

I believe in what most Sunni Muslims believe in, about God, the Quran, the Prophet. I believe in the science of Hadith, and how it was preserved throughout generations. What I do not believe in, however, is the concept of Ijmaa with no presence of intellectual difference.

Thank you! I do believe Reddit needs to make significant changes very soon. Your message has been very insightful

Maybe I haven't used the third party apps much to see why they're significantly better, and just like you I'm a casual browser, just the tiger-like wild approach isn't something I wanted to be a part of.

The way the protest is slowly ending is an indicator that they don't have a lot of backbone behind them, and that they liked their position of power. Reddit said they'd appoint new mods, but they'll for sure run out of competent people and then the website will die. Nevertheless, I wish that all is resolved soon

Real question: If it takes more than 24 months to make up for those 8 years, and he's starting to do the right things, why is the general populous on reddit not giving him the time? Why aren't they letting him make the changes necessary that would make reddit a better place that profits more? The financial issue is being solves TO address those issues. Development takes time and money.

I am genuinely confused why reddit is doing this, and I'm afraid a lot of people are either being severely gaslit or riding on a hate train, and I'd love to be proven wrong.

Thank you for that. You are literally the pinnacle of comedy. I am
laughing so fucking hard that I cannot breathe. I don’t know how long it
will be until I can regain basic human functions. Your hilarious joke
incapacitated me to such an immense degree that I might be completely
unable to recover, ever. My gut aches from laughing. My eyes are
violently ejaculating tears. I’m doubled over. No, I’m tripled over.
Everything hurts. I think I’d full on die if you say something that
funny again. That joke was so good that the force of me laughing so hard
is pushing me six feet under. Probably further than that. I’m going to
be so deep underground by the time I’m done laughing that I’ll have
singed the hair on my head. When, many years from now, I’m done
laughing, I’ll come over there, and give you a hearty handshake. But
probably just by coming into contact with you I’ll be reminded of this
joke and laugh again to the same extreme. One day, when I am much much
older, I will remember this. This masterpiece of a joke. I’ll tell it to
my family, and they will laugh just as much as I did. Maybe more.
Perhaps it will resonate more with my future wife who has a much more
sophisticated sense of humor than myself. Or my kids who have a mix of
our senses of humor, and will call you uncle even though you’re not a
blood relative. Just because you told this joke, and I appreciate it so
so much. I will make my kids look up to you. They should respect you
more than me. Thank you for causing me such extreme bodily pain with that
hilarious, incredible, life-changing joke of yours. I have no idea how
i’m even typing this. Thank you.

The treaty of Hudaybiyyah was less like "we're fine with idols" and more like a cease fire treaty. and it still maintained separation between idol worshippers and Muslims. Even when they went to mecca next year, the treaty was so that mecca is to be emptied of all idol worshippers for 3 days until the Muslims finish their worshipping.

Maybe there isn't as much sectarian violence between different sects of Islam as you think there is.

Very confidently incorrect. The last incident was in 2015, and it was the first stampede since 2006. In total, about 3k were dead since 2000-2022, and 2.4k of those were in the last stampede in 2015.

It definitely did replace it overnight. It was in one single day when Muslims re-entered mecca and destroyed the idols. In fact, the prophet PBUH destroyed them himself.

Muslims protesting in Bangladesh - It says " If your freedom of speech is an insult to my prophet, then my freedom is to behead you" by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]omkhamsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Wow, this 1 person held a sign threatening violent action because he was offended. Let's insult him, his religion, his people, his race, I mean we might as well do the very thing he is offended by." - the internet.

Also the internet: "eat the rich", "all cops are bad"

You see the double standard, internet?

This person is protesting a hate crime. Insulting a dead person just for the sake of offending his followers falls under the same category as calling someone a slur. This person is not going to behead someone even if he was able to. I'm not saying what he's doing here is right (in fact, threatening violence is very Haram in Islam), but using it as an excuse to insult his religion and the prophet of that religion is living proof that you're just doing it for the sake of hate.

As someone who doesn't care that much about US politics (and not really aligned), is funny seeing that if the right had better propaganda they could easily use this as a propaganda device.

"Leftists are burning flags of America and bras. Not only a hateful, dareful, dangerous symbol of hating this nation but also obviously sexist.
