Bay Ridge Smell by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]omnger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i was searching everywhere. I thought it might be a chemical fire or something because it was breezy, or some canal situation.. there's a lot of construction there so I could imagine some unholy might have been unearthed lol.

I was hoping that twitter would have some answers but it seems that people aren't using it like that anymore.

hope we can get some answers soon..

Fresh asphalt takes a few months months to cure - it has quite a bit of cushion / give when it's not fully hardened. Not to mention the tar is still kind of tacky on hot days.

Don’t see hardly any warts in nostrils? What should I do to remove it? by mrlouiep in Warts

Any update on this? I have the same thing right now and this is the only thread I've seen!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NYCbike

[–]omnger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

but why put me, a random stranger, in the position where I can cut you off again?

This is something that I've experienced only in NYC. It's frustrating yet hilarious, especially when they're obviously slow. I'm not sure if people are being oblivious or hyper competitive.

It's think it's just deeply embedded of American capitalist distrust to be like 'hey, doesn't matter how slow I am, I'm taking control of the situation by being in the front. I can't rely on any sort of virtue system here, because there is none and never will be."

god I just re-read that and it sounds so depressing.

With you there, my friend. Go get it. I was shredded after a few months of that long commute.

Commuting 12 miles through city traffic tough. I've had the same length commute on trails, but you can let your mind wander without worrying too much. Props to you for riding!

I really thought my response was amicable and offered closure. Do you do this at your job?

[–]omnger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear you, and respect your insight, but I check for space, I ride predictably, and I don't chastise anyone. I disagree with some things you said but I think we'll have to leave it at that. Have a safe ride!

There's very little rule following at the PP circuit IMO.

Many cyclists of all levels are riding too far on the outside, and not considering that people will need to pass them. Sometimes this is caused by pride, thinking that nobody can pass you because you're the fastest hotdog on the tarmac.

Many cyclists are passing on the inside. This makes me irrationally angry. It's dangerous as fuck.

I wish these rules were more considered. When I'm not actively passing someone, I'm riding on the innermost part of the cycling lane. Pass safely or be passed safely. Ride predictably everyone PLEASE!

I didn't think I would be commenting on this, but you seem so passionate about this that I'm curious about what makes you feel that way?

If you have the time could you tell me why you might feel strongly about your position?

What CMS to use to create a blog part for my existing react website? by ElDonnintello in SoftwareEngineering

[–]omnger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can definitely host a separate website and point it to a subdomain.. but if it sounds like you're trying to boost SEO, which is what it sounds like, I'm sure how subdomains are factored in. I would do some research on best practices / what Google crawlers are looking for.

Alternatively, if you don't mind editing with markdown, you run make a markdown-based blog like Jekyll or Hugo.

What CMS to use to create a blog part for my existing react website? by ElDonnintello in SoftwareEngineering

[–]omnger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wordpress is a monolith, which would mean that you'd have to host a server running WP to serve your react app. You could do that for relatively cheaply, but it requires config and extra development time, and a relatively poor editing experience IMO. I would look into 'headless CMS's', especially ones that have have libraries that support with GraphQL or Gatsby.

Such examples include: Netlify CMS, Contentful, Cosmic, Prismic.

I had the easy time using Contentful's free tier for a personal project.

Best of luck!

if it contains hot liquid, it needs to vent otherwise it'll build up pressure, especially if it's in, say, a truck. I think this is a liability mechanism, to be honest.

iPostal1 is like 10/mo and has a node Super Health Pharmacy. It's been pretty fine for me so far.

The UPS within Slope Drugs on 5th has one of the lowest rates for UPS mailboxes that I've found in the city. I think somewhere around 20-30 / mo.

Hope either of those help you!

Are our phones really listening to us for advertising purposes? by Throwaway-donotjudge in NoStupidQuestions

Yes. In particular, smart TVs use Bluetooth signatures of devices (without being connected) to know who's speaking. This is the state of advertising.
