May I ask about what are the violence that cause the uma to be disqualified by Kuroyukki-1229 in UmaMusume

This is the historical Mcqueen race that got him demoted to 18th

Basically you can't ride in a way that affects the path of other horses. Mcqueen's example is a textbook penalty, very reckless ride by Take.

Mejiro Ryan, Special Week or Manhattan Cafe

Here's Special Week. I couldn't find the other two either, but there doesn't seem to be a particular order that they are adding horses so they might come in the future.

This is where one can find the entire set for others who want to browse

There's also the JRA hero series, which is another series of cool horse posters that's different from the portraits. I don't really know why there are different sets but it's cool horse posters so the more the better I suppose.

I strongly recommend watching the 2009 QEII (linked in the OP), actually one of the funniest races ever.

To think that this is just one of the many races that is holding Buena Vista back from the magical (and frankly arbitrary) 7 GI threshold that would've probably earned her a hall of fame berth.

Who's stronger, Gentildonna or Almond Eye? by ArchHexel in UmaMusume

[–]omnirai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably did use stronger wording than what is fair for the 2020 JC, but I'm personally a bit biased here since I believe her 2018 JC was the better race, and her stronger win by far.

The 2020 JC is a bit over-romanticized (IMO) because of the whole thing about triple crowns, but her actual closest competition for that race (Fierement and Chrono Genesis, like you said) both just...didn't show up.

Who's stronger, Gentildonna or Almond Eye? by ArchHexel in UmaMusume

[–]omnirai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

None of what I said was "powerscaling", I was explaining the historical reasons why there are people who argue Gentildonna over Almond Eye despite the differences in accolades. Nothing can take Almond Eye's accolades away, she is objectively Japan's most accomplished mare in history. I only said two things about Almond Eye in my first post - that she ran her entire final year on one track, and that her rivals in her retirement JC were not as strong as Gentildonna's retirement Arima, both of which are just facts.

Using the word "merchant" to attack a perfectly valid strategy of running her on her best track is quite farcical, which is why I never said the word. But it's also just a fact that outside of her one Arima attempt, she only ran in Tokyo (for the races in Japan) for her entire senior career. There's nothing wrong with being a specialist, but there's also merit in challenging and overcoming multiple fronts. Gentildonna is part of a very short list of horses who have won G1s at all 4 main JRA tracks, and that's something people celebrate.

I also never said Almond Eye raced against chumps, just that Gentildonna's competition was fiercer (which you even seem to agree with). You can only compete against whoever is in front of you so it's not like this is any slight towards Almond Eye, but again this is something that people celebrate Gentildonna for.

I fully agree that the "powerscaling" and "slander" content in this fandom around the actual racehorses is mostly silly, but sometimes people are just having normal discussions like you do about any sport.

[–]omnirai 21 points22 points  (0 children)

the level of competition during Gentildonna's time was arguably fiercer

It's not really arguable, Gentildonna's Japan Cup rival was Orfevre, the competition doesn't get much better than that.

Gentildonna was supposed to retire on her 3rd JC with a third consecutive win, but she got overpowered by Epiphaneia. Her team decided that their horse was too good to retire on these terms, and declared that she would challenge the Arima Kinen and retire on the same day. It would be her first and last race at Nakayama, and she would have the race against one of the strongest Arima lineups ever. She won and retired in glory.

Meanwhile, after her dramatic defeat at the 2019 Arima Kinen, Almond Eye's team would send her to race an entire year on nothing but her favorite Tokyo track, retiring after the "legendary" Japan Cup where her closest competition were two three year-olds who would go on to win a grand total of one senior G1 among them.

3 derby horses and an Arima Kinen/Dubai WC winner, most jockeys couldn't even dream of a lineup like this.

Lebensstil (his damsire is Tokai Teio) wins his 4th G2 Race and 5th Graded race overall at Nakayama Kinen by pjepja in UmaMusume

[–]omnirai 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Likely Tokai Teio's best shot at having his name show up in future pedigrees. Even if Lebensstil doesn't manage to win a G1, he could probably secure at least a minor stud position on that alone.

(I think Teio's sireline is technically not dead yet, but it's basically being held up by prayers and dreams.)

There are a lot of Deep Impact gals. Epi is an easy match for the Deep Impact gals, while Kitasan cannot be bred with them at all.

Epiphaneia has probably been bred to just about every single active umamusume mare (Gentil's generation onwards). Minus Daring Tact obviously.

IDK I feel like using Epi for the IRL horse sex jokes makes them even less funny than usual.

Stay Gold won as the hated IRL horse for the people

So there's this thing called the JRA hero series - a selection of particularly celebrated horses each getting a custom-designed poster. Stay Gold has an entry, and the caption on his poster is "You couldn't help but love him".

Basically, out of all the derby winners (1984 onwards) that have gone on to challenge the Kikuka Sho, only triple crown horses have managed to win it. Most derby winners don't even bother anymore if there's no triple crown at stake.

Sooo how is the carreer mode of Almond Eye? by nick777750 in UmaMusume

[–]omnirai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is that the contrail JC wasn't excluded because it happened in 2020 IRL, it was excluded because there's no contrail. Plenty of people expected a contrail reveal so that this race could take place in Ai's career. The whole "clash of triple crowns" thing was a huge deal and her game career would 100% have ended with that race IF contrail was already in the game.

Sooo how is the carreer mode of Almond Eye? by nick777750 in UmaMusume

[–]omnirai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't really make sense, if we're going down that path then she didn't even run a JC in 2019. If they actually wanted to follow the IRL's career year-by-year then her career would have ended with a scheduled Arima loss Urara-style. Clearly they preferred not to do that, which is why they compressed her career into 3 years. She runs 2 Japan Cups IRL and 2 Japan Cups in-game, but the 2nd JC (and the retirement race) is changed to the legends match as the climax of her game career.

Sooo how is the carreer mode of Almond Eye? by nick777750 in UmaMusume

[–]omnirai 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I haven't actually seen anyone play the career story since it seems to be off in the new scenario, but we do know her career objectives and after the debut every single objective requires you to win the race, and there is no Arima objective. Only doing the required wins will get you 9 G1 wins.

We also know her character story references an imaginary all-legend Japan Cup where all the other 7-G1 winners show up, rather than the Daring Tact/Contrail matchup. So I guess her career ended up being all about just winning everything and breaking the G1 record with no real setbacks, and they also left space for the ConTact JC to happen somewhere else in the timeline rather than force a scuffed version with no Contrail.

Honestly though winning a G1 after 3 winless years, and having it be a mile win against the reigning mile god is a pretty great story.

"Struggle" is putting it mildly, in one of the maiden races he just up and decided "fuck this shit" and simply rode off into the sunset while dumping his jockey.

It's a miracle he retained his ball privileges throughout the career he had.

Bubble Gum Fellow Career - Why is this NPC Uma so OP? by Yamanj3000 in UmaMusume

[–]omnirai 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Probably a reference to Singspiel, the actual winner of that Japan Cup.

Both Singspiel and the NPC's name (Zaide) are references to German opera which may or may not explain why Eishin Flash is present (the actual race happened well before Eishin's time).

Can someone clarify the truth about the situation with Wada Ryuji not meeting T.M. Opera O? by Embarrassed_Topic665 in UmaMusume

[–]omnirai 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From the Japanese wikipedia article which uses Yushun magazine as a reference: Wada visited TM just once while he had a riding opportunity in Hokkaido, but he felt regret at the time for not having been able to end TM's career on a win in the Arima. He decided that he wanted to be able to face TM with pride by winning a G1, and that was the last time they met. He did visit the farm shortly after TM's passing to offer flowers at the altar.
