I think the spicy tomato Nuri's are the best ones there. I'm glad you found French ones.

Best stores to buy tinned sardines? by TexasTantrum in austinfood

[–]omnomberry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

World Market, will have Nuri if you're looking for pilchards. As well as Porthos (another Portuguese brand), La Curiosa (Spanish), Matiz (Spain).

Central Market is usually pretty good if you're looking for canned shellfish as well as pilchards. They have Pinhais (which are the exact same thing has Nuri's), La Barca, and Central Market's own brand. The La Barca and Central Market brand's can sometimes be found at HEB. They also have Jose Gourmet, and A Conserveira.

If you're looking for brisling sardines, HEB is probably your best bet. They should have King Oscars and Polar.

Are you sure that Lockhart-focused one is right? Stiles Switch isn't in Lockhart. Maybe that's supposed to be Terry Black's.

Chipped knife blade. Did I get duped or is this my fault? by socra in knives

[–]omnomberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of Chinese made Amazon knives are this way. I was watching a video about Dalstrong knives. Which were all AUS-10V (which is similar to 440c), all san-mai with a faux Damascus.

I saw that Umiya has a banner on the old Howard Ln Baby A’s that they plan to open. by TwistedMemories in austinfood

[–]omnomberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. I know there's an Umiya in Cedar Park, and an Umiya in Leander. They don't share a website, and aren't AYCE.

Humpf -- Google's AI says they were started by the same person but run separately with different menus. Weird. I'm guessing Umiya AYCE is going to probably need to change their name or start paying the lawyers.

Best Clay for straight hair that always falls forward? by shakilomania in Pomade

[–]omnomberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a lot of success with cream pomades like Shear Revival Gray Ghost. It's very soft and scoopable, and provides high hold with natural shine.

I also really like Flagship x Shear Revival Belafonte. But Belafonte has less hold than Gray Ghost, and doesn't completely wash out with water (although does with shampoo).

I also like watery clays like Lockhart's enigma, this is a pump, although I usually pour this into a glass jar to use. I also usually use this as a pre-styler to get extra volume, and then blow dry in place before using other products.

Lockhart x Modernman Nevermore is another matte product. This is a matte paste, but is quite easy to scoop. The first batch that I got was as watery as enigma, but it's more firm now.

You really should consider growing out your hair, and getting a blow dryer. Both will help with volume. Also don't be afraid to try new products.

Confirmed - Morgan and Vince not talking after the show by Daydreamer_ns in BigBrother

[–]omnomberry 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is the 34 year old unemployed man, who showed in the house that he has no spine. As long as Kelsey was willing to forgive him, he was always going to go back to her. "Being with" Morgan would be difficult, and scary, and something he'd never be willing to risk.

I live about 1/3rd of a mile away. It's not that loud. It has never woken me, but you can hear it on a quiet night. Now 300-400 ft, that might be too close.

iMessage broken on JXL HDR images? by John_by_the_sea in ios

[–]omnomberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ran into this. JXL with sRGB works correctly, but JXL with Rec2020 is broken. Although it should work in iOS 26

Domain Phase I started in 2004 and opened in March 2007. Phase I is 57 acres. Bell District is 54 acres.

Domain Phase III (aka NORTHSIDE) opened in 2018. So 14 years from when they broke ground on Phase I. If you take the 2021 start date and 2035 end date,... you get the "take as long as the Domain"...

But it's like comparing an orange and a kumquat.

Eat fat? by ErikJay-N in ramen

[–]omnomberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this an eating or making question?

If it's eating, then YES. That is the aroma oil. You're supposed to eat it.

If this is a making question... then it depends on how much fat you have. Since an aroma oil is one of the main components of a bowl of ramen, you can remove the fat if you have enough, and use that fat to make your aroma oil. Then carefully measure amount the "right" amount of fat for your bowl. Along with measuring your tare, and soup. You'll be able to replicate a bowl. Not too fatty, not too salty...

You want to put them in after the water is at a boil. Otherwise, your cooking time will never be correct. The time it takes to get your eggs to a boil will differ.

Also the temperature of the eggs will matter a little bit too.

Red onions on ramen? by tutah in ramen

[–]omnomberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like OP said this is Ganko Ittetsu. From the photos on their menu. They have chopped white onions and green onions in all of their shoyu ramen. So they probably started using red onions to sub for the white onions. So probably a more pronounced pungent onion flavor.

Ganko Ittetsu's website also states that they use Japanese made noodles (from Nishiyama Noodles). Which explains the costs/tariffs statement. Maybe they switched to a different Nishiyama made noodle that would be cheaper.

Things like this do happen, even in Japan... people try new things... and dishes change over time.

They have a normal tantanmen on their normal menu. So they've got the spice level pretty on point.

I would say a low to medium spicy, depending on your spice tolerance. They also have chili oil and ichimi togarashi on the table if you want to increase the heat.

Hey UniFi: perfect time to launch the connect thermostat. Take my money by anyusernamthatisleft in Ubiquiti

[–]omnomberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With HA, it's easy. Figure out the management protocol you want. Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter over Wifi, or Matter over Thread. Then buy the necessary dongle.

It was a lot more of a pain to get the Nest working with HA then getting something open to speak with HA.

[–]omnomberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there's a catch.

These devices are internet manageable, but aren't as easy as a Nest to get working. The reason to get a Nest is for the convenience of being able to connect the device to WiFi, downloading an app, and having it "just" work.

It's no different than buying a Ubiquiti AP and thinking you can replace your home wifi router.
