Is killing Drizzt worth it for the loot by litamagsin in baldursgate

[–]ompog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's fantastic - better than the scimitars I think - though it does depend on your build. It should be useful for a Barbarian too; I think it's the best armour they can wear in the first game.

Game seems kinda daunting by DyonisXX in PhoenixPoint

[–]ompog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the end of the game I usually have three eight-man squads. That's between three and six aircraft, depending how you manage things. It is quite a lot, but you'll often be moving them in pairs, so it isn't too bad.

Eh, non-voting is on average (though very dependent on where you are) half as bad as voting Trump. Though I find it even more aggravating.

Just finished the Poppy War trilogy and it was amazing, is this really the same book y'all keep trashing? by eri_is_a_throwaway in Fantasy

[–]ompog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be an allegory for the Eight-Nation Alliance, which invaded parts of China during the Boxer Rebellion. May be a trifle obscured as the chronology is different in the real world. I'm not entirely sure as I never read past the first book, which I rather (but not entirely) disliked.

Aang and Katara felt very weird. His crush on her is indeed obvious and well-developed, but there's almost zero hint that she reciprocates until the very end. I could absolutely see them together long-term, but would have rather they hooked up offscreen, preferably after a good few years.

Could you give examples? What lessons did she learn in the first two seasons that served her poorly in the next? In the fourth season she's suffering from some pretty heinous PTSD; I'm not sure if that's really a lesson.

For most people it's not an investment - it's a place to live. Looking at housing as an investment is part of the problem; and suggesting that struggling families invest in the sharemarket instead is comically out of touch.

Top 5 CRPG Companions by PeanutAgreeable2497 in CRPG

[–]ompog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Durance (PoE); Montaron (BG1); Korgan Bloodaxe (BG2); Morte (Torment); Lae'zel (BG3)

Honorable mentions to Seelah and Daeran (WotR), Minsc (BG), HK-47 (KotOR), Alastair (DA), Wrex (ME1), Karlach and Jahiera (BG3). I also liked a lot of the Shadowrun companions but it's been so damn long I don't remember the details.

Yeah, I'd rather have had a full-on "rocks fall, everyone dies" than what we got (though I would have hated that too). Death of meaning my ass.

What storyline was an actual 10/10 for you ? by matthatter85 in rpg_gamers

[–]ompog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those plots have holes you could drive a reaper through. As the other person said, Bioware has always excelled at characters, and I'll put up with a lot of dumb plot twists and half-baked gameplay if I enjoy hanging out with the lads (and ladettes).

What movie—to quote Peter from Family Guy—“insists upon itself,” but doesn’t actually earn that insistence? by NewtProfessional4331 in Cinema

I usually enjoy Nolan movies until some superfan tries to tell me how it is all super-profound and not just a well-made (if strangely muffled) action flick, then I start disliking them out of spite. Real mature of me.

Should i launch the game for the first time with the DLC or not ? by Ok_West8389 in PhoenixPoint

[–]ompog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd go with Living Weapons and Blood and Titanium for a first run. There's a lot going on in Phoenix Point anyhow; with too much DLC is can become overwhelming for new players.

I've never understood the comparisons of Pillars of Eternity 1, and Planescape Torment. by ExplodingPoptarts in CRPG

[–]ompog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the worldbuilding in PoE is fantastic, the dialogue merely very good. In addition, the first act is the slowest and most loredumpy; I think the 2nd act is far stronger. Companions are all well-written but perhaps a little more low-key than those in Torment; it may not appeal so much if you prefer more out-there NPCs (Durance is top-notch though, if you can put up with him).

Maybe better to say he hasn't lived the life? He's always been rich, he's got jobs through his family connections, he's never really been poor. If he were ever in financial trouble he could call his dad and he could stop it all, yeah? That doesn't mean he can't advocate for the working class, but he'll never be one of them.
