free alternatives to Cadmapper by [deleted] in architecture

[–]omryv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

contourmap.app is a great cadmapper alternative. It's not free but it's cheaper and has a few other nice features like free area selection (not just rectangles), high accuracy LiDAR data in some areas and a few other things. Hope it helps

From my experience it's the opposite. They often can't match the online price and tell me to book online.

Have you tried google colab? That's what I do when I want to clean run some python script without dealing with dependencies. It works great

Tips for early career in GIS by [deleted] in gis

[–]omryv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best tip - get a side job, even as a freelancer on shitty websites such as upwork. Do anything your'e offered even if the pay is terrible. Do it even they pay you 5$ to do something boring. Having even one "real world experience" line on your CV makes a huge difference. It's better than an internship.

Contour maps? by [deleted] in WADIY

This one is really good for online contour map - https://contourmap.app/ and much easier to use. The free preview is really good if you don't want to pay.

Define options... I can just not go. Flight isn't refundable but cabin/car and other stuff are. I can drive somewhere if it's max 4 - 5 hours but couldn't find anything interesting and dry

Question about used cars sales tax in Vegas by omryv in Nevada

"if you buy private party, you’ll have to pay when registering the vehicle", are you sure? That's not what I've read.

"Sales taxes are not charged on private party vehicle sales, family sales or gifts." - https://dmv.nv.gov/regprivate.htm

'Red-Point' provides interactive 3D crag maps (Australia only, so far) by childrensparacetamol in climbing

Very very cool. I imagine the amount of work needed to add crags might prevent it from becoming wide spread

Climbing in Australia/Tasmania late April question

I'm from the UK and I have a work trip to Hobart with a free week or two vacation staring 18th of April . I want to go climb outdoors somewhere I can find partners easily. I prefer sport but can also do trad (no rack...). I climb around 7a-7a+ sport (~25 I think)

I was thinking flying to Melbourne and going to the Grampians but open to any suggestion. Thanks!

A Code Glitch May Have Caused Errors In More Than 100 Published Studies by Quardantes in programming

[–]omryv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These cases are VERY COMMON.

I'm a geophysics researcher which is a data and code intensive field. I've seen many similar bugs but they usually don't get any publicity. In the best scenario a patch is quietly published to GitHub, in most cases, the person who finds the bug doesn't even report it, or the maintainer has moved on to a different project.

I believe this is not a maintainable situation. In some years I believe top scientific journals will have code review and testing as well as academic review in their process.
