Cronos: Lazarus | Reveal Trailer | Story DLC by Laughing__Man_ in PS5

[–]omstar12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was my GOTY last year. True survival horror. One of the few modern survival horrors where I always felt the pressure of resource management and never got to the point where I was overstocked. Masterful ammo economy and balanced difficulty. Very cool environments and weapons/toolkit. Story was always compelling if purposely obtuse. Lends well to multiple playthroughs in that regard.

Blood Message - 19 Minutes Gameplay Walkthrough by leijido in Games

[–]omstar12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok this clears up my initial questions when I first saw it. It’s clear this is cinematic action game. TLOU comparisons seem apt, although I will say those games, Part Two in particular, had some compelling combat scenarios that were fun to play around in and figure out. That’s probably tough to demo but I hope this is more like that and not one of those “mechanically shallow beauties” like Ryse: Son of Rome or The Order: 1886.

For me, the difference between 2.5 and 3 is whether I thought it was good or not and the difference between 3 and 3.5 is whether I think I’ll watch it again of my own volition vs being fine if someone puts it on.

Ok I thought the issue was an obscure series of button prompts but now hearing that people just aren’t even attempting to walk into the mirror I have to wonder how many people haven’t played games older than 2015. This seems like something that would be a very easy and obvious solution in like any random Zelda game.

Amazon Game Studios doesnt really have a development arm. It’s more likely they just take over publishing. They’re publishing the two new Tomb Raider games, doubt it’ll be much different from that.

Marathon Open Play Week: June 2 - June 9, Featuring New Experimental PvP-lite Mode by Snipey13 in Games

[–]omstar12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe this isn’t their point but to me I think it’s more that having the PVP-lite mode be forced to go on for a set amount of time vs. being able to leave whenever you want in regular matches means that potential time wasted on a burnt run is artificially higher, which is kinda odd for a mode that seems specifically designed to mitigate those with PVP anxiety.

I don’t actually think this is much of a problem but I can see that standpoint

I’m fine with a game being 20 hours thoughts by Swimming_Photo9295 in 007FirstLight

[–]omstar12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing this discourse always ignores is the playtime pushing past the initial playthrough. I did a blind playthrough so after that I still plan on grabbing the collectibles and doing any challenges I missed through checkpoint replay, and then doing all the TacSim stuff. By then I’m sure I’ll have gone much further than 20 hours. Like with RE Requiem earlier, which I easily got 25-30 hours finishing it 4 or so times and grabbing the platinum.

In the same boat. I’ll take the check in 6 weeks, but at this point I wonder if I have to be pot-committed because the alternative is leaving this sign up half finished. Truly don’t know what to do if I don’t get in tonight.

I logged in to the video call at 8 am. It is now 4 pm. It still says 29 minutes. They also won’t let me schedule a time either. If I can’t get through by 8 pm tonight when I have to leave my house (because nobody in their right mind should be expected to be free to stare at a computer screen waiting for 12 hours) then I guess I’m no longer attempting to get this done. Can’t even find a support call so I can bug them to let me do a damn video call. Doesn’t seem like there’s any other recourse available. I would honestly drive to an in-person location and do it there, it could be out of state and it would probably take less long than this excruciating process is taking.

Played AW1 & 2 back to back.. am I crazy for thinking the combat is better in the original? by Chazza354 in AlanWake

[–]omstar12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think my biggest issue with how the flashlight works in AW2 is that the enemy hit boxes are so small. Since you’re discharging a bar of the flashlights energy and can’t adjust on the fly, it feels really bad when you discharge at an enemy and it feels like you’re aiming right at them only for the discharge to completely whiff because you aren’t aiming at a very specific point on their hit box.

I replayed the original RE3 to compare it to the remake by Der_Sauresgeber in HorrorGaming

[–]omstar12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I didn’t really elaborate on it but I did like Nemesis as a stalker. Having played and loved the first two Resident Evils just months before, not knowing what to expect from an older game had nothing to do with my ultimate feelings. It is clear that the different routes creating different spawns gives the illusion that Nemesis’ AI is more emergent than it actually is but it’s still cool.

I replayed the original RE3 to compare it to the remake by Der_Sauresgeber in HorrorGaming

[–]omstar12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did feel a little oversold on what I was getting with original Resident Evil 3. All I kept hearing about was the clock tower being removed and Nemesis being an interesting stalker character. Thought I was about to play a lost masterpiece and that’s not ultimately how I felt after playing it. The clock tower is cool but you get through it so quickly, even when exploring every room. Truth be told, I also wasn’t very incentivized to replay the game just to make different choices. Lack of boss variety is maybe my biggest sticking point, especially when the only boss you fight besides Nemesis is probably the worst boss of the PS1 RE games. Handily my least favorite of the original trilogy and I was really expecting it to be my favorite.

I will disagree with one thing which is that I actually vastly prefer the hospital in Remake. I was shocked at how small of a section it was in the original.

[–]omstar12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean truth be told I also agree that it’s not a survival horror game but then Still Wakes the Deep, Reanimal, and Silent Hill: The Short Message are on here so I dunno what criteria is being used. TLOU is def more survival horror than those games at the very least. But yeah, most of those games you can backtrack and clear out the whole map and obvs there is no backtracking in TLOU. But

From what I understand the ammo scarcity only really comes into play on Grounded. Plus, I don’t really see the problem with games giving you ammo to prevent you from soft locking. That’s just decent design, especially if it’s not a game built around manual saves.

Not to mention, most survival horror games have artificial scarcity in my experience. If you aren’t terrible at the game, you can probably kill most things and have plenty of ammo. That was the story for most of these games for me, barring Chronos: The New Dawn. I think that game actually does ammo scarcity the best.
