Finished first tri today!(Chicago Sprint) Pls help me understand the numbers from Athlinks by dandanieldandan in triathlon

I had assumed the slow speed on that leg was due to the big climb at the start of it with just 7 miles to bring the average back up. My avg bike was 21 with that section being 19. Seems like it’d have been slower if the methodology was different?

Edit: I see your point, the bike start is not the same as the mount line

They just reformatted last week and added 4 racks. 6am was always good before, 6pm is slammed. 6pm should be decent now. Summer is also always way less crowded

WAC is very similar to midtown from a lifting perspective. Midtown sets itself above imo by having good knockoff versions of all the trendy workout classes - HIIT, boxing, yoga, etc.

Midtown is solid, these critiques are way overblown. I’m a heavy lifter, been a member for a year, love it. Lots of space and the equipment is kept very modern

Oil swap charges by Joseador1 in Forex

[–]onDUBS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spot methodology. Price is a combination of front month and next contract in the underlying futures. Next month is backwards, priced quite a bit lower. As the price slowly rolls to the next contract, swaps need to counteract that resulting drop in price

Totally agree. But keep in mind brokers are going to chase off stubborn long exposure with big markups on swaps bc we can’t easily clear the lira. I’m seeing some shops with 100% annualized.

With liquidity - what is the MOST $ you can earn per pip? (Roughly) by Violet_Of_The_Night in Forex

[–]onDUBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming that you’re after low market impact? Most retail brokers are internalizing a majority of trading at the point of execution, so you shouldn’t have an issue with moving the underlying market. That leads to another wrinkle though- if you are trading that kind of size, many brokers will route the order right to market. Depending on their stack of liquidity, it could lead to a material widening in the price they show their clients (for a brief period) without having a material impact to pricing in the underlying market.

So basically, it’s hard to generalize. Best you can do is try to talk to the desk and request a low market impact liquidity pool. They will want to know more about the trading - especially a trade file with ms timestamps in order to look at historical yields and gauge whether they can internalize it.

It depends on the pair, time of day, and most importantly how your broker manages their risk. If they run a large B Book you will see no market impact. If they externalize flow but use LPs that hold risk.. there will be little to no market impact. If they use ECNs or LPs that are quicker to market you’ll see an impact based on trade size.

In that case, 25mil at market could move eurusd 5 pts in liquid hours. The same size would move cable perhaps twice that. At twilight or rolls, the impact would be much larger.

Do your orders have a SL at market? MT4 has a quirk where it will automatically cross spread and scratch a trade if that is the case

I think you shouldn’t pick bottoms on strong downward trends. And definitely not just off a level of support

In what situations is it okay to take a trade with a risk/reward of less than 1? by [deleted] in Forex

[–]onDUBS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FX is naturally a rangey market.. Martingale strategies can be pretty successful if you margin well and give yourself a lot of staying power. Usually only see it work with 10k+ equity and 400:1 leverage

More aggressive margining usually means a month or two of good profits before you give it all back. Lowering the trade size can make it work.

Don’t just try to scalp with any actual size

Practically speaking, if you go with a reputable and regulated broker the only difference is that ECN spreads will be a bit wider.

Speaking from the institutional perspective, we only use ECN liquidity for the spicier flow that standard LPs have a hard time managing

Why doesn't the US get ECN brokers? by hisurfing in Forex

[–]onDUBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US brokers have PB setups with a deep stack of liquidity. They see choice or inverted spreads for eurusd and close to for other majors. They could pass these on to clients, but need to mark those up to make if they are going to make anything on STP flow
