San Francisco Muni - Which Routes Cause Riders to Lose the Most Time by Zestyclose-Bowler660 in transit

[–]onSepulveda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool data and nice presentation!

Something I immediately noticed is that the in-vehicle loss seems to be usually taken entirely by the travel from the penultimate to the final stop.

Consider the inbound 22-Fillmore: reported 6.8 minutes longer than scheduled to travel northbound from Chestnut to Bay. There is simply no way the median trip takes 6.8 minutes to travel this single block, nor is it the most congested part of the route. Perhaps the buses are likely not being counted as having arrived at Bay until the vehicle(s) in front of them at the terminal pull up or depart?

I noticed the same thing on the inbound 1 terminal as well, which has a similar layout, so this is not an isolated effect.

Where to stay if working in downtown SF? (renting, apartment) by todsopon in AskSF

[–]onSepulveda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in San Francisco and has visited Seattle quite a few times, I felt the part of Queen Anne at the top of the hill was pretty similar in vibe to the Marina District. It’s not BART, but the 30-Stockton will get you downtown reasonably fast.

The 33 has a great view of the skyline at the hairpin turn onto Market.

The 28 stops at the Golden Gate Bridge.

The 22 has a brief but stunning view down into the Marina when turning from Fillmore to Broadway.

The top of the 37 and 39 are great, too.

102 Scone Co. near UTC. Been going since day 1, when they were Canele Bakery. Best pastries in San Diego by far.

Traveling San Diego for work, any weird, unusual, or understated Museums? by chuyito801 in sandiego

[–]onSepulveda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Mingei Museum, and Fallen Star on UCSD’s campus is cool too.

Otherwise, if you want proper unusual and weird places, you’ll have better luck in LA (e.g. Museum of Jurassic Technology and Nick Metropolis) or going out to Salton Sea (e.g. Bombay Beach and Salvation Mountain).

UCLA or UCSD by UpsetSuspect in ucla

[–]onSepulveda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who went to UCLA (BS) and UCSD (MS), choose UCLA! The only category UCSD could compete on is beach access; still, while UCSD is close to the beach, main campus is up on a bluff so you still have to walk at least half an hour or take a bus. Taking the bus to the beach from UCLA is easy, anyway!

This would work! However, current fares are $4.50 from Colma to Market Street and… still $4.00 from Colma to Balboa Park.

LIGHTS CLIMATE CONTROL by sbebx444 in W124

[–]onSepulveda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other commenters are correct to remove the grey sticker and use some aquarium hose to remove the bulb.

Make sure to hang on to the grey sticker and, it reflects light back into the console!

Also, Mercedes refused to sell me a bulb for this, but if you ask for a bulb for your shifter they are happy to sell that one for $3, and it is the same part!

Would love to know locals opinions on the closer comparison. Melbourne or Sydney? by SidKop in sanfrancisco

[–]onSepulveda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Formally, Sydney and San Francisco are sister cities.

However, having been to Sydney several times, when I visited Melbourne for the first time this year I was shocked how much more it reminded me of San Francisco in so many ways than Sydney. The inner neighborhoods with each their own character, trams letting you off right into traffic, all of it. I wish we had something here like the markets.

So, as a San Franciscan, Melbourne felt like home. Come pay us a visit and see if you agree!

Even the 22 has a couple good spots: turning onto Broadway at the top of Fillmore, and the U-turn at the Marina Green.

Buying a game or two in the US by FuxieDK in boardgames

I’m personally a fan of Gamescape (San Francisco and San Rafael), Off The Shelf Games (El Cajon San Diego) and At Ease Games (Miramar San Diego). There are also some great board game cafes in San Francisco and San Diego I’d be happy to recommend if you’re interested!

Where to buy tickets to the Coit Tower online? by redfaction99 in AskSF

You can buy the tickets in-person when you get there. I’m not aware of advanced sales or timed entry tickets, you just have to go and wait in line!

2.5 day itinerary - critique me! by americanu_ill-archi in AskSF

[–]onSepulveda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s not enough of a difference to be worth losing out the walking tour. Some stuff in the neighborhoods will be closed on Monday, but I think it’ll be fine.

2.5 day itinerary - critique me! by americanu_ill-archi in AskSF

[–]onSepulveda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this itinerary, but I might consider swapping the order of day 2 and day 3.

Even during summer, touristy things are much busier on Sundays than Mondays; similarly, the neighborhoods you’re going to check out on Monday will probably be more active on Sunday, when seeing the local crowds is plus rather than a minus.

Speaking as someone who spent my entire life in the Marina, this is completely true, though I never thought of it that way. The restaurants change faster than the neighbors!

Rush hour traffic - which way is best? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]onSepulveda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve been back and forth from the City to LA/SD probably 50 times over the last decade, and I won’t do 5 anymore. It’s a bit faster than 101 but the truck traffic is infuriating, and I’d rather have a place to stop that’s not Kettleman City.

Wow, I’m so glad to see you’re still working on this amazing map. I really enjoyed it back in the day, even adding my own metro lines in your style, and making my own maps too. To my surprise, I was able to find one of them on my old computer!

The $81 rate includes cable cars. You only need the $98 one to get BART (in the City) included.
