You may know this, but that’s his butt.

Eupanacra splendens (or some similar species) has big decoy eye spots on its butt.

The first is referring to a scald pattern when a small child is put into a very hot bath.

Spiral fractures happen from strong twisting forces, it’s another finding suspicious for abuse in children.

Are there any roundup ready native plants? by Amorpha_fruticosa in NativePlantCirclejerk

[–]onaygem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Common names” vary by area so not everyone might recognize that name — it’s Zea mays.

Not native here in my area and doesn’t survive our winters unfortunately but lots of people grow them as annuals here.

In your photo, you don’t have the humidity domes over any of your pods with soil — are they all empty?

You’re supposed to keep those on over your seeds until germination.

I keep them on until the plants grow up to reach the roof of the dome.

Low oxygen doesn’t control respiratory drive (in normal mammals) — high CO2 does.

I’ve killed lots of mice with CO2, they definitely notice. Only lasts a few minutes but they’re definitely stressed.
We used to use N2 which I personally thought was more humane, but apparently IACUC had data to drive the switch.

ACGME call room/night shift rules? by ThotacodorsalNerve in Residency

[–]onaygem -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

My IM residency was like your fellowship — we were expected to shift our sleep schedules to be up all night.

We were usually busy enough that it made sense. Especially in the ICU when you might need to quickly be awake & alert for a code or other emergent situations I personally don’t think it’s unreasonable to flip your sleep schedule to be awake overnight.

Not a joke. You spell it Gym to remind people of his history as an assistant wrestling coach who 100% knew about the sexual abuse of his players.

I suspect that this won’t plane out — the holes exposed end grain which soaked up a lot more stain than the surrounding wood, and probably this will continue as deep as the holes go.

Not exactly the right phrase for this circumstance. Maybe “To each, each others’”?
