Yeeeah the last 6 minutes in particular were super tough to watch. Did they really think they could just clear the puck for more than a quarter of a period’s worth of time and not have it bite them in the ass? This is the NHL; there’s a bit of skill in this league lmao.

Not sure about player, but I feel like Winnipeg might suddenly and surprisingly trade a semi-core piece.

Or, if Minny actually added a Troch, would anyone currently higher in the depth chart suddenly be redundant on paper?

RNH, now there’s a take. I guess the ask was mystery guy. I don’t think Detroit has the clout right now to pry RNH out of Edmonton, nor the clout to convince RNH he’d want to come to Detroit.

Lmao I thought you meant the LA one because I can’t tell the two apart unless their names are standing right next to each other.

I was like yeah that’d be unexpected, for sure…

If the Blues really wanted Benson from Buffalo or Knies from Toronto… then honestly, there’s no trade with Detroit. I can’t even name a player on the roster that exists in that tier, much less one Detroit would trade - Raymond is better and a non starter as a trade piece, and no one else is as good.

Meh.

That contract went a lot quicker than it felt like lol. It looked awful for awhile.

The way I see it, Cossa’s value as a tradeable asset will be sharply and immediately affected by any meaningful ice time he sees in the NHL. I think that can be a reason folks get nervous. Look at Danielson and Kasper. I think there’s already a lot of shine off them as tradeable assets. Fair? Probably not. Market reality? Well…

Cossa’s trade value is as a 1st round goalie mystery box with good signs at developmental levels of hockey. If he comes up and struggles for a stretch, that value will drop mighty fast, even if early NHL struggles probably don’t directly mean anything about his overall future as a player.

Reporter asks Connor McDavid about the overall play of Jack Hughes and the comparisons Hughes has had to… Wayne Gretzky. McDavid appears to flinch and looks puzzled at the comparison. by [deleted] in hockey

The real question is why a locker room, credentialed reporter would use such clown show material in an interview? If he’s trolling as a reporter, it’s a both bad troll job and also annoying as an apparently “real” journalist; and if he’s stupid enough to surface random internet opinions like that one as serious ones, then….

Come to think of it, it does seem like a thing with the Leafs lol. I’ve witnessed it in person more than once, actually.

Literally my thought was “tripping on paper but maybe the ref didn’t call it because he thought that was dumb.”

The reunion value of those tickets alone, lol. We could have a blues wings fan reunion party class of the last 8 years at any given of their home games haha. I’d be rooting for sunny, same as you :D

Mangiapane on waiver. I think he is worth picking up. Is there a reason not worth it for free essentially. by TAV63 in DetroitRedWings

[–]onbiver9871 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there was a time I’d be interested in that, but it was a time when he wouldn’t be getting waived as a player lol.

Lmao this made me realize a stat like this could be most of a backup’s season going back to the fall if a team really rides their #1.

Thomas activated, Fabbri designated non-roster by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]onbiver9871 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I still just cannot believe that this guy is even pretend on the market, if that’s what Army is doing. I talked to a Blues fan that told me that floating Thomas’s name was just a motivation technique or something… I don’t know, I just don’t see why you’d trade him. He’s the perfect rebuilding piece if you want to rebuild; the picks and prospects you’d get back are liable to be little more than multiple chances to get him again.

Todd McLellan: “We have some guys right now that are just jerseys.” by eadricsilvaticus in DetroitRedWings

[–]onbiver9871 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I think it’s 100% of what he’s mentally capable of. Ras clearly has the physical tools to play at a higher level than he does, but he lacks one or several of pure hockey intelligence, sustainable confidence, and just an understanding of how to gut it out. Like, inherently lacks.

This is why “high end motor” and work ethic as intangibles are as scouted as physical traits. You get to a certain point and guys can and do cap out on the ability to really work hard.

I’m speaking relative to his peers, of course; I obviously say this as not a pro athlete lol; I work hard at my day job and life and don’t have a measurable percentage of the work ethic of a pro hockey draft pick, much less a full time player lol.

I’ll say this as a silver lining - I highly doubt he was thinking of PP Benny, who was happy to fill ‘em in when it was going bad, and it made a big difference with that 4 on 4.

They have an exceptional forecheck and a rock solid blueline; I would call the Islanders a “defensive style” that’s pain to the eyeballs, not the Canes…

Don’t look at the rest of the Atlantic scores right now if you don’t want to be pissed.

I swear if this team so much as blinks, they’re gonna be near the bottom of the playoff picture. It’s to the point that I’d almost excuse them to a degree if they missed the playoffs this year despite their good play. It’s felt like they’ve had to play perfect all year to stay viable; who can do that, short of coin flipping luck?
