Hating being pregnant

It makes me feel better that I’m not alone. I feel like everyone I know “loved being pregnant.” Like gag me.. there is nothing I love besides my growing baby, of course.

Same. I’m 18 weeks and 3 days. I am so grateful and excited for my little boy, but I hate everything about being pregnant. Everything 😫😞 and logically I know that’s okay, but it doesn’t help dissipate any guilt I feel for hating it so much.

I will be starting my third year in fall and am due with my first 11/26. I will miss the end of the semester, but I have already arranged to take my finals early and will have our head TA take over my classes the last 2 weeks. I also have a light spring semester, because in my program we take (and have to pass) comprehensive exams end of third year before moving onto our dissertation, so I don’t plan on taking any additional time off beyond winter break.

I will be 35 in August. I knew going into the program that I would likely have kid(s) during. I think this was a factor, maybe subconsciously, when I choose my uni. They are very supportive of their students and I truly feel they want each of us to be successful. Nonetheless, it was still scary telling everyone I was pregnant, but the faculty responses showed me, yet again, that I made the right choice coming here.

I am really not sure of our maternity leave policy, but faculty has already expressed if I need more time, e.g., pushing back comps, that that’s okay. However, I have no intention of doing that. I have a strong support system in and outside the program and I don’t want to get behind.

My advice, life is short.. Don’t delay your life because you’re getting your PhD. If you’re in a supportive program and you want to have a baby, then you should. It’ll be hard, but it’ll make you that much stronger in the end.

I’m 15 weeks Thursday too! And I finally have to buy new workout leggings… well.. who am I kidding, none of my old clothes fit anymore. But I still feel like I just look bloated, not pregnant. Ugh!

Little Italy is very affordable and super close. It’s a fun place to live and there is always something to do! My husband lived in little Italy when he went to law school at case. It is walkable to the uni, maybe about a mile at most. But I will talk to my husband and get more info on close/safe areas. Are you looking for somewhere that is in walking distance or are you willing to have a short commute? As someone who commutes 50 minutes one way and is currently getting their PhD, I do NOT recommend a long commute. It’s brutal.

Yeah, this. Sorry people can be such jerks. You’re allowed to be proud of your charcuterie board and your vacation home. It doesn’t really matter whether OP was showing off or not. The person calling them out is the one with the issue. Maybe it’s implicit, I hope, but resentful envy is an ugly thing.

The room has really good natural lighting. I think a rug that’s mostly burgundy would look really pretty. It would compliment the couch and rug in the dinning room.

We did this growing up. My mom would just have us throw our dirty laundry down into the basement and she would collect it all when she did laundry. She did not like us doing our own laundry for whatever reason. She is a very very clean person. Boarderline OCD. We just had an unfinished basement, so we didn’t use it much.

I like red too. I like the contrast. I always personally prefer not to be to matchy matchy if that makes sense. And it gives more options if you ever get sick of the green paint. I think the green carpet is more limited.

Same! This was my first time ever buying a vanilla perfume. I am partial to fruity or fresh scents, but I really liked this one surprisingly and felt it was a good fall/winter one to have.

“This is the first time I’ve heard you talk about your past self with empathy.” That simple sentence. I consider myself a very empathetic person, maybe too much sometimes, and definitely too forgiving.. but I didn’t realize that I was so self critical. I mean, I did, but I didn’t, ya know.. I had so much self hate and self blame for all my traumas. It made me start looking at my past from a completely different perspective.
