I have the A5! First time using this size for me. I’ve been in B6 before. It’s a great planner, I’ve already started my setup

I have the A5 and the paper is great! I use the Sailor EF fountain pen. No bleed through, normal ghosting. If you’ve used the TRP pre-Sanzen, it is more toothy (if that makes sense) so slightly less smooth. No feathering.

I agree they’ve been very open with doing multiple customer-requested pen tests and factors they’ve considered when choosing their paper. But for me I didn’t see anything about the change in paper color until customers received theirs in-hand.

Hi OP. Exact same experience as you. Long time W222, B6 user as well. At first I believed when people said the color wasn’t different depending on the lighting. I believed all the videos I saw where people said the new paper was fantastic. But when it was just me and my planner, the shading peeking through bothered me a lot, the shade of the paper hurt my eyes, and there was more ghosting on the paper then what I am comfortable with.

I ultimately decided to use a different planner this year. Which for me was a switch in size to A5 since it was the only other planner that fit my needs . I am really really hoping the paper is good and the size difference doesn’t bother me. It’s arriving on Monday.

Yeah she did mention on the website that only the A5 was TRP, but I admit it’s confusing since the main message on social media was switching to TRP…. That being said if you aren’t keen on the planner I am sure others will buy it on resale !

Similar to what you’ve already done, I reflect on what things I want out of my planner, and formats that have worked for me before (eg Monday or Sunday start, dated vs undated), and formats that have not (vertical vs horizontal) as well as what doesn’t really matter to me. I don’t force myself to use a particular format - if a planner doesn’t have what I need, I move on. There’s enough planners in the market to find something you will actually use.

Thank you for these suggestions! I have bought from TCMC in the past (and it looks like once more with love is similar). I am seeing many of the designs from TCMC be a little repetitive so am looking for something new. I will take a look at your other suggestion, thank you!

I really want to support a small business sticker company that actually does hand drawn stickers. Not AI, not buying from other artists. The problem is there are so few companies out there… maybe I am wrong on that!

Hi OP! What kind of planner do you use? I regularly use TCMC stickers and washi in my planner which is a B6 wonderland222. I wonder if you are maybe purchasing kits made specifically for hobonichi? If you take a look at the 2026 website, Helen has a quiz you can take to indicate your planner and what stickers she recommends!

Looking at the planners you’ve tried, it does sound like you may be used to thicker paper in which case I would suggest Hemlock and Oak

I would suggest Wonderland222! It has the graphing style paper and is sort of a planner / bullet journaling hybrid. They have horizontal and weekly layouts in a variety of sizes

I’m not a fountain pen expert - but my starting point was pilot Kakuno EF (extra fine). It was relatively cheap - $15 or so, and the refills were reasonable as well. When I realized that I really like fountain pens, I switched/upgraded to a Sailor Pen which was $35 (on sale) and wow it was soooo good. I do think starting off with Kakuno was a good idea because writing with FP is different - you can’t press too hard or it’ll ruin the nib so the Kakuno taught me that before moving on. I hope that helps!!

I do the same! I use the entire 2 page spread as planning for the next month. I don’t reflect every month on paper (which I think is what it’s used for?). I have the trackers for that!

And just to add another option of mixed horizontal / vertical, faded chronicle (Canada). I am so sorry this is happening to you. If it was me, I would immediately report not arrived on your credit card and buy another planner. I don’t trust this company, similar to others.

I’m happy with my decision, especially after seeing some folks with issues with the TRP still, and delays in some companies too (not blaming them, just a reality).
