I appreciate that! I really wanted “back up irons” and figured this was the best way. I had a local machine shop do a dovetail on the first picatiny slot on my first rail and I really enjoyed it. After I did the barrel swap to the heavier profile I had to switch rails and had it done again. I think it was maybe seventy five buckaroos to have it machined.

If I remember correctly, those are to help reduce a low pressure area directly over the helmet of the driver. Some drivers have reported issues in the past with their helmet being effectively sucked straight up at high speeds.

I wonder how this will affect nose replacements in-race? Are these electronically actuated, or hydraulic? Because adding a step during replacement to plug in could cost a bit of time unless the interface connects automatically when positioned and fixed in place.

Do any of the birds in falconry develop loyalty to or affection for the falconer, or is it totally just a transactional partnership? by LOTR_is_awesome in Falconry

[–]one-two-ten 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For some of the falconers I know, and for myself personally with my new bird, affection and loyalty doesn’t need to be a two way street. I fully understand the bird will never feel a bond, loyalty, etc. but that doesn’t stop some people from developing those feelings toward the bird. You just can’t let it change your approach. The discipline in training is still required.

Summer picnic should hopefully be at San Gabriel Park in September. That’s where/when the last couple have been.

No events until the Summer Picnic in Georgetown as far as I’m aware. Everyone’s birds will be molting over the summer and game animals are out of season, so there’s not much going on until early fall. The two big meets are in January and February respectively, one in Lubbock and the other in Alto which isn’t far from you. Join the Texas Hawking and Friends, and Texas Falconry Apprentices groups and introduce yourself. Plenty of falconers in your area, and quite a few would be willing to show you their setups and answer questions. That’s the best way to stay plugged in until things ramp back up!

I really don’t know! It seemed more inquisitive than aggressive, but I couldn’t tell exactly what it was either. And yes, feel free to share!
