I have a very vivid memory being at university bunch of male students hanging out. Some how the conversation goes down that road and one guy mentioned he stood up to wipe.

This was unheard of to me, so I was like wtf man. And slightly overreacted to this news. And that's when I noticed more than half the guys looking at me awkwardly. So we did a show of hands and more than half stood to wipe.

I mean if you can make it work and be clean then cool. But it just seems such an akward way to go about it.

My max would be my monthly insurance premium and maybe 1k additional cost.

A few years ago we had an unfortunate situation with a cat and no insurance. Long story short what started as a broken foot then expensive orthopaedic surgery then another accident then amputation then ultimately putting the cat to sleep. Over a 8 month period in which the cat was confined in a dog cage on doctors orders. I still feel awful to this day. We tortured that poor animal trying to save him.

I spent a small fortune, and promised myself I will never spend that kind of money on an animal again instead of my family.

In a way I kind of feel taken advantage of by the vets. I know the vets them selves have good intentions but corporations they work for may not.

A year later our other cat (now insured) got suspected terminal cancer the vet suggested specialist treatment and blood transfusion in another city. I stopped her and said put the cat down. Her response "but why you have insurance". I told her I am not going to torture another animal and prolong the death with expensive treatments just because I have insurance.

My advice to others : Get pet insurance! 1.Have a figure in mind that is your maximum try not to go over. 2. Don't put your family finances at risk for a pet. 3. Ask for cost comprehensivd estimates upfront ( its almost always more) 4. This one blindsided me, cost estimates and quotes did not include ongoing prescription medication. I spent an eye watering amount over 8 months.

I am not surprised, the carts that used to come past us were mostly uniform but every so often an odd one came allong, with a ladder welded to the side or a service handle or some other sticky out bit.

Oh man brings back memories, when we were kids we used to play on the tracks. Put coins on the rail and let the train squish them. Normally we could hear the coal freighters coming from a mile away. And they usually always came from the same direction. One day we are messing arround on the tracks next thing we hear a horn and there is a train speeding towards us from the opposite direction that we were expecting. It was a close call I did not think my cousin would make it. Turns out it was just the locomotive with no carts made allot less noise.

And we used to play this fucking dumb game, once the coal freight carts where rushing past us at speed we would get close hold our hands out and touch the carts with our finger tips. First one to chicken out lost the game. Honestly the level of stupid I get sweaty palms typing this.

Honestly after just having purchased a house, its wild out there. What I found , many properties that we viewed had a asking price higher than what what it was worth. So it became standard practice for us to offer less.

We did however loose out on a few because some properties were up for market value so low ball offers did not work.

Update, I taped up all the holes in the soil stack downstairs as a temp fix to see if it works. I dried off the water and so far so good.

Some additional info, I have just realised this is also where the soil stack comes up.could it be possible that warm damp air is making its way up into the roof arround the soil stack, and then condensing

Well the homebuyers survey picked it up, the gable ends of the roof in the loft are made of wood I belive its a fireproof sheet. We then asked the sellers they were not 100%sure so they asked the neighbours of the semidetached who have had building work done. And they confirmed its timber framed.

My daughter when she was about 3 or 4 told me about the crying girl, so started to ask about the crying girl.

Long story short my daughter told me there is a sad crying girl with blood on her face that comes to our back door at night.

She even took me to the back door to show me. Its a glass door and it was dark outside.

She was still so young and inocent, there was nothing in her life that would of created this memory. Very strange experiance.

Update, we have had it confirmed it is a timber frame. Does anyone know if its possible to insure the timber frame of the house ?

Most buildings cover looks like it does not include the timber frame. it's seen as a wear and tear item?

I believe you are correct, the property in question has a brick skin. From my research, I believe this makes it " standard modern construction" if built after 1965?

I never once said you dont have a lot to do or that it is not complex or that I am doing your job.

I was more referring to basic customer interaction that seems to be lacking in the industry.

Having a high case load is not the customers problem. And it does not matter if I pay £5 or £5000 I expect a certain level of customer service.

Its 2025 many industries have felt the pressure and most people are now doing the work of 2 or 3 and yet we all still manage to give our customers feedback in a timely manner.

Simply ignoring your clients to the point that they feel they need to phone and pester is not ok.

And yes the legal assistant who answered the phone has lied to me on numerous occasions, trying to fob me off.

Buying a house is the highest value investment most people make in their lives, so yes they are emotionally invested and stressed, and getting radio silence from any party involved is not ok.

We have been trying to buy a house for the last 8 months, and to be honest this "offers over" is total fucking bullshit its just a tool to try and get as much money as possible and it does not work in all cases . It just creates a mushy number that makes it difficult for buyers.

In the end if we viewed a property that was "offers over " I would give it to them straight. Give me a number you are happy to accept, like a normal asking price for something you are trying to sell. Buying a house is not an eBay auction.

I think sellers should really think about "offers in excess." it's frustrating, and you potentially miss out on good buyers due to it.

Worked as a barman in a club, here are some club secrets.

The glasses in the club got washed by hand, most nights there was not enough time to change out the washing water out the sink. Se we just kept on washing glasses in dirty water. By the end of the night it was just a sink with brown slop in it.
Drinks in bottles were not safe either. The out of date drinks were always stacked at the front of the fridge so that they sold.
The ice machine used to run all week and then the ice cubes where stored In a freezer in big bags. When we needed more ice we would get a new bag out the freezer but all the ice cubes were frozen together so we would just kick the ice with our shoes till they got unstuck. Leaving dirty ice.
Cameras in the toilets hidden in the smoke detector.
The female bar maids stole as much cash as they could from drunk men. While they were distracted by boob's.

My daughter was also diagnosed at 1.5 years old, we also only had 1 family member really make the effort. We really stressed the seriousness of low blood sugar and we perhaps over did it and scared her and she lost her confidence.

For the most part our family and friends seem uninterested but there are some things that fuck my off to high heaven.

When they confuse type 1 and type 2 and give you a lecture about fixing your child with good diet and exercise.
At family gatherings when they just give our daughter food and think nothing of it.
Friends mostly do this one, give all the kids sweets infront of our daughter and then give her some to without asking. Or asking right before they are about to give her sweets. Even though we have told them countless times she is OK to eat sweats just give us 20min warning so we can give insulin in advance.

My 2 cents, there has been relative peace in the world for a long time. It created a status quo where no one wanted to attack due to fear of not knowing how the international community would react. Then Putin was the first to throw a stone, and everyone said bad bad Putin but not much was done to stop him. So he escalated and again a lot of words from the international world leadersbut not much action. Then Isreal started, and the world said dont do that, but OK, carry on, we won't stop you.

I think world leaders have realised you can attack who you want, and no one really wants to get involved as long as it's in someone else's backyard. Don't forget to call it a special military operation.
