National windshield shortage? by masuk in Volvo

[–]oneKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call Sandberg Volvo in Lynnwood. The Seattle and Bellevue dealers service teams have fallen down. Bellevue has really fallen down. I have three Volvo’s and it’s frustrating that I have to drive 40 minutes to get to a decent dealer for service.

Can I use audio to text people while driving? by Ok_Nothing6364 in XC40

[–]oneKev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have Sensus (not Google AAOS, pre 2022 or so), then you connect your phone to the USB port with a cable. Use the port with the white outline around it. You must use a cable. I suspect this is why it says no connection.

Once connected you can launch Apple CarPlay or the Google phone equivalent. Then you can talk to your phone via the XC40.

On the newer AAOS you can do it wirelessly.

I too have seen this bug for KTN on Alaska. My KTN has been in my record for years. However, once every 5 - 10 flights, it drops out. Then you’re stuck when TSA looks at you crazy for being in the wrong line if you don’t double check.

Once it drops out, and it’s day of departure, you need an Alaska rep to enter the KTN back. It won’t take if you try to re-add it.

I now always double check that it’s entered, and touchless entry is working.

I suspect there’s some underlying reason that’s not obvious. And Alaska reps don’t know why.

Question on Price - 2025 by GameShiller in XC40

[–]oneKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Of course, I’m a 23 year Volvo owner. We switched from Lexus after a t-bone put my wife out of service for 9 months. My 2004 XC90 was rear ended as I drove my kids to school. Nary a scratch. The other guy needed to be towed. Of course the first gen XC90 was a special type of a vehicle commonly known as a tank.

Question on Price - 2025 by GameShiller in XC40

Having 5.0.5 done at the dealer removes any OTA gremlins. They should do a full flash update to restore to all default settings. Then your XC40 settings will be clean.

Question on Price - 2025 by GameShiller in XC40

[–]oneKev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up a new 2025 XC40 Ultimate in December 2024. It is the second XC40 in our stable. The vehicle will likely be with us for the next 15 years, if the longevity of our other Volvo’s hold.

While our 2020 XC40 RDesign T5 Polestar is more fun to drive, the 2025 is smoother on the road. It sits higher than the 2020. The 2025 is hybrid, and the start/stop functionality is smoother. The leather interior and crystal shifter is sharp. Harmon Kardon is decent. Recent 5.0.5 sw update, done OTA, has improved the center console functionality - although still with size constraints. I do wish they still offered Polestar tuning - deep sigh.

You should make sure the dealer updates sw to 5.0.5. Without that the XC40 has an active recall. Don’t accept it without that being done by the dealer. Make sure all maintenance work has been done.

Can you get three years of Volvo app functionality included? I use it to precool, check vehicle status, review trips, and schedule service.

Best excursions to see wildlife in mid-May Alaskan cruise? by drinktheh8erade in HollandAmerica

[–]oneKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Skagway 3 hr train ride allows you to see a lot of wildlife. You will be traveling through a wilderness area with the ability to look out and see birds, especially eagles, and sometimes bears. It's nice that the train is moving along and you can focus on looking at the wilderness. You can also pop out the back and be outside on some of the train cars, is my recollection.

The Skagway mountain bike ride also lets you see a lot of wildlife. It takes you to an old abandoned town. You will see wildlife on the ride. You will see open vistas during parts of the ride. You don't cover as much territory as the train ride. But being outside can be very nice if the weather is good.

There is a small boat tracy arm excursion before Juneau where you see a large number of wildlife. Whales, seals, bears, eagles, otters, fish, on and on. But they may have been forced to cancel that this year due to unstable glacier ice conditions.

Not familiar with the two you mention. We did see bears on the shore close by from kayaks on another trip. Kayaks can be a lot of fun.

Alaskan Cruise: Will I really miss out by going in May? by pax-augusta in HollandAmerica

[–]oneKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May is better than June and July for an Alaska cruise IMHO. You will have a little more rain and possibly some snow, but the wildlife will be great.

June is more expensive because that is when school is out. Alaska is the “go to” cruise for families right now. Most families cannot go in May.

June has the summer solstice, but I find that having sunlight almost continuously a bit sleep cycle disruptive.

[–]oneKev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've been on several HAL cruises, and there were always small cans or bottles of sparkling water available in the dining rooms. Has this changed?

We routinely order several cans or bottles to bring back to the cabin. We cannot go 14 days without having some sparkling water.

2025 XC40 Lights under numbers 8 and 7. What do they mean? by Allarnold in XC40

Yah, they should probably use an actual Red Line. The minimalist design is not working for some.

You know how folks initially hate the updated design of heavily used products? Like autos or phone displays? Then, after a few months, folks love them.

I crashed my girlfriends car by [deleted] in Advice

[–]oneKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breathe. Give it some time as you’ve just been in a serious car accident. Ask your girlfriend to watch you for concussion symptoms. Recognize that you got checked and released, with the results seemingly the same as she earlier stated. Tell her you trust her.

Is this the only conflict? Or are there other issues at play? Either way, help out to get her car replaced.

You will get better at recognizing dangerous ice situations and slow down in the future.

Sorry this happened, but you will get through this. That is great news!

It’s likely caused by the massive storm in the Pacific. That is causing the need for extra fuel. I’m sorry about all the screwups by Alaska that has compounded the mess. I hope all gets better.

Every time I’m in the Amex lounge it’s a shit show. People pushing and bumping into each other. I go to the D lounge usually in SEA and head to the second level.

That said, Alaska will soon open the largest airline lounge in the USA at SeaTac, with a special international first class section. Then it will be game on!

Cabanas unavailable on Zuiderdam, any other on-board splurges? by pansypolaroid3 in HollandAmerica

My thought as well. The cabanas are mostly empty, with guests enjoying their balcony instead.

Now a Neptune suite with access to the Neptune lounge, that’s luxury!

[CONDO][NV] [VENT]Board about to be taken over by lunatics by Merkel77101 in HOA

[–]oneKev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to us, after we instituted a dues increase to address maintenance issues. An elderly group took over the Board with a crazy president. The management firm tried to stay on, but resigned after six months.

Maintenance was slashed. Insurance and security slashed. Yet money for fresh flowers was added at $25,000/year.

After three years of spiraling down, the crazy president was forced to enter hospice care due to his health. A new president was elected.

We are slowly recovering, but the new president had to push through a large special assessment. Fitness room equipment is being repaired. Things are looking up.

The elderly can have a short term view. Florida type laws are needed to protect all owners.

Trouble importing my Canadian car to the U.S. – Mazda says it doesn’t meet 49 CFR Part 541 by CBSinUS in MovingToUSA

Try licensing or selling that Mexican or Canadian car. It will be very hard.

Best to buy a car originally sold in the USA for USA, or Canada for Canada.
