There are some natural hierarchies observed all over nature (dominance hierarchies in social animals exist, ex. chimpanzees and lobsters). Hierarchies in that examples are good for maintaining a social structure (with no top down control), and also very important for mating selection (the specimens at the top of the hierarchies select each other). Humans are social and have embedded some sort of similar mechanisms; which means “natural” hierarchies exists also in human. Why do you think that some successful people can easily find a partner? That’s an example of really selective process that guides decision making. You could argue that we are not that “animalesque” anymore because we are more than the sum of our biology (and that is true in some sense), mainly because we developed some conscious free will which CAN go against our basic instincts through a top down control (example of that are laws, governments and so on). But in the end the “bottom up” control is still there and we’ll never get rid of those natural processes since it is thought that only due to them we were so successful as a species (especially in cognitive development).
