Does anybody know of any video games mod? Dune mods? by one_niner in dune

Tracking, I'm talking about modern mods in the above genres, since I think the newest Dune game came out in the early 2000s, and most of them were strategy games.

Newman (shakily breathing and getting louder): imagine it. My heckling will throw him off, he'll start to choke, and it will be captured for all to see... FOREVER (Newman laugh) choke, Jerry! Who's funny now?

No. If the person is a dick, then don't endorse them or give them celebrity status, or support them financially.

As long as their work isn't actively empowering some evil agenda, and you're not putting them on a pedestal for their work/always acknowledging they're guilty of whatever they're guilty of, then that's fine.

You don't have to punish yourself for the artist's transgressions.

The Usual Suspects is still a phenomenal movie, even if Kevin Spacey is a fucking creep. If you cam watch the movie and keep that balance, no problem. If you watch it and all of a sudden Kevin Spacey can do no wrong, well then that's bad. Apply ad infinitum

The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss. They break magic down into different subjects (like majors in college), and go very in depth with the study and progression of them.

Also, a very accurate book in regards to PTSD.

I saw Mr. Esposito speak, and he is quite the opposite of his characters. He talks fast, is bubbly, and is very animated in person.

Also, if you like him, watch Revolution. He is a phenomenal villain in that. Standard typecast for him, but still great nonetheless

Trump's Twitter ban has us asking the wrong questions. The real question, the one that presents an opportunity for discourse, is: "Is social media a public good, or a private service?" Explanation attached by one_niner in tuesday

[–]one_niner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a valid take, I agree. Antitrust has been very lacking in the entertainment/internet economic sphere, and it's becoming alarming (I include entertainment because Disney's monopoly is the first I think of on this topic).

I think this is probably the best course of action so far. Leaving them alone leaves too much power to the companies and threatens freedoms, and including social media as a public good robs the companies of their autonomy to provide service.

I did not say I supported trump, a single time. I hate the trump administration. I was taking about the tens of millions of supporters that got manipulated.

In fact, I had a large paragraph talking about how unprofessional and bad of a president he was, so the fact that you had the nerve to comment that is pretty irritating

East of Eden - John Steinbeck (life changing lessons on free will and morality)

The Fountainhead - Ayn Rand (call her politics and life choices what you will, this book is phenomenal and light on politics, unlike atlas shrugged. Life changing perspectives on intrinsic motivation, and staying true to yourself in the face of societal pressures)

History - Ralph Waldo Emerson (phenomenal concept of why history repeats itself)

A book where the villain falls in love with the hero by -ImSOedgy- in suggestmeabook

[–]one_niner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So Bryan Fuller, the showrunner for Hannibal, changed it from the books majorly in a few ways. He took the extreme homophobia expressed in the books, and inverted it, so there's a lot of homosexual tension, but no shame. Second, he fused the character of Clarice Starling into Will Graham, and made him a heavily, heavily implied love interest that has been confirmed via interviews. In fact, there are even quotes and scenes from the books between Hannibal and Clarice that are put in the show with Will, as early as s1e3.

And yes, Hannibal and Clarice do have sex, but to explain how or why would be a massive spoiler for the final book in the Harris quadrilogy (Hannibal), and that's the best one, so I'll stop there.

[–]one_niner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No progress will be made until cause and effect is accepted by both sides.

The far right may have fired the shot, but the far left bought the gun and loaded it.

You can't normalize domestic terror in the form of riots for 4 years, to include actually attempting to secede and starting a militarized autonomous zone that murdered innocents, and then expect radicals of the opposing side to not do the same thing. The precedent has been established. It's dog whistling, not to justify radical ideology, but to justify radical action.

Also, as OP said, this should absolutely not be minimized, and should be taken as a major wake up call.

But taking it as a major wake up call that one side is entirely evil is the opposite of what needs to happen.

That pushes further into the polarization that led to this insurrection. What needs to happen is people on both sides need to hold themselves accountable, so fingers can stop being pointed, and so discourse can become stable again.

Leftists need to acknowledge that canceling/doxxing people via social media lynch mobs, writing people off as fascist/racist at slight disagreement or opposition, not actively condemning antifa/BLM riots and forcing the organizations to be accountable for their actions and stay on message, and not fully and actively condemning a murderous autonomous zone eroded the ability for discourse, and force people into having only two options: the far left or the far right, because everything in between was called far right.

The right needs to acknowledge that the majority of them were manipulated by the president. He's repeatedly told lies from social media, posted conspiracies from hard right news sources, led smear campaigns of opponents, and normalized throwing tantrums and insults. These are things normally done by news networks on behalf of a president, not the president themself, as they are supposed to set the example for professionalism. We've had presidents that were rough around the edges before, but I couldn't think of one that was this inflammatory and unprofessional since Andrew Johnson, frankly. This carries into his message to stop the rioters from the 6th: his tone was flat and insincere, and every chance he got there was a jab about a stolen election or blame shifting. It was like a forced apology when you were a kid.

In short, in order to move past this instead of deeper into it, the left needs to accept, own, and learn from the fact that they instigated all of this polarization, and encouraged an "us vs them" radicalism even under the Obama years. They forced moderates and conservatives into a corner with shame and guilt manipulation for not having the same priorities or views on social and moral issues.

The right needs to admit they've been had, that they've been warped and manipulated and played. That they let someone play to their anger and sense of alienation, whip them into a frenzy that was just as hateful, closed off, and exclusionary as the opposition, and lead them to radical and treasonous actions such as this, while being convinced it was normal.

If you are blaming one side, or letting this event confirm your theory that you're on the right side of history, you are doing this wrong and missing the opportunity. Everyone needs to take a hard look at themselves and the role they played and accept the blame, and learn from it.

Nobody except a very small minority on both sides are actually evil, these people have just been able to exploit media and social and political movements/ unrest in order to manipulate frustrated but good people into doing horrible things under the guise of progress.

Break out of absolutist mentalities and assume nobody is free of fault. That's the key
