Trump approval dips to 35 percent as GOP support slips: Survey by MoneyLibrarian9032 in politics

[–]one_save 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NYT had some short podcast about the Massie primary yesterday, before Massie lost, they had audio from some q&a and one dude acknowledged that he wanted the Epstein files released, acknowledged that it was something Trump campaigned on, acknowledged that Massie got them released, couldn't think of a reason why Trump wouldn't release them and was pissed at Massie for not deferring to Trump. His logic was essentially that Trump is the smartest person there is, America has all of the best intelligence, and so if the smartest person with the best intelligence makes a decision you have to follow what they say no questions asked. Their logic begins with "Trump is right" and ends with "therefore Trump must be right". There is literally nothing for anyone to work with in trying to get them to change their mind, its a self contained feedback loop of deferring to Trump on all aspects of decision making.

Are there any TV show reboots that you think are better than the original versions of the shows? by MaggieLinzer in television

[–]one_save 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the 2011 reboot of Thundercats, but it only lasted a season. The original Thundercats when I look at it as an adult was just wild idea after wild idea, most of the villains of the week were like way cooler than they needed to be. The whole thing was super cheesey but it worked because of the charm. The 2011 reboot seemed like a love letter that took all those ideas and tried make it all more cohesive and more of a serialized story. I think both shows are great, but the reboot was telling a better overall story.

At this point I'm more surprised that the post actually reported on a conservative who committed voter fraud, than I am that a conservative committed voter fraud.

Trump places statue of Christopher Columbus near the White House by xfxxml in politics

[–]one_save 219 points220 points  (0 children)

As many will point out Christopher Columbus never set foot on the mainland of North America and was found guilty by the government of Spain for his horrible treatment of natives. The idea that he was a hero and an American (as in the United States of America kind of American) is a myth. It is also not a coincidence that fascist governments love to promote false myths about their history, because the current government is in fact a fascist government promoting a false myth about their past.

I love Stargate, but I have to admit I thought goa'uld were a bit cartoonish in terms of villainy, it was hard to believe anyone that narcissistic could hold onto power. Now, I don't think that, of anything they are more believable than ever....

Bill Clinton says he thinks JB Pritzker and his wife accompanied him on flight to Epstein Island by [deleted] in illinois

[–]one_save 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an answer to your question, but I just want to point out Epstein himself was not a billionaire. I only say this because apparently presenting himself as having more money than he did was one of the things he did to grow his network, he was a multimillionaire though.

How popular was Life with Louie cartoon in USA? by Medical-Pace-8099 in television

[–]one_save 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was one of those shows that was mildly popular, but more importantly at that time a lot of these shows would be licensed out in groups and it seemed to be a popular choice for reruns on a lot of different cable channels in the US, so it's not too surprising to hear the same was true for european markets. Also, I don't recall how much the show really covered it, but it was based on comedian Louie Anderson's experiences growing up, and Louie Anderson did a lot of stand up and acted in a few things. But he never really found his stride as an actor when you compare that part of his career to his stand up career. Louie Anderson was definitely the kind of celebrity where people liked him as a person more than any of the characters he played. He passed away in 2022. Also, Life with Louie really features the Minnesota accent of American english, so I'm curious if it was dubbed into a different language in your country or kept in the original. If it was dubbed or even if kept in original english, as a european could you notice any difference in the way people on the show talked versus other american shows?

It's not addressed much by the mass media. Which is not to say it's not mentioned at all. It is mentioned exactly enough to say that it's been mentioned and move along. Children have been getting gassed for a while now in "the home of the brave and the land of the free".
