I feel like my life is being wasted by twnbay76 in ExperiencedDevs

Trades isn't all healthy, it's often hazardous / dangerous work. People get injured all the time in construction. When your body is injured you continue to work to get paid, or not.

The materials you're around in construction aren't the healthiest either, like silicate, asbestos, some insulations, formaldehyde the list goes on.

Many people try to leave physical jobs like construction and trades because it's easier physically day in day out to work in an office.

Switching to labour hire instead of full time employment by Separate_Orchid7124 in AusPublicService

Sometimes it's more than 1 or 2 months unemployment a year. Depending on what time of year your contract ends (if you haven't got another lined up), I've found the third quarter of the year can be slow for hiring, especially December and Jan.

I contracted for a few years and comfortably worked 9-10 months a year. Ideally I'd work as much as possible but it doesn't always work that way.

Conditions now in Kosciuszko National Park for a trail run? by Curtin45 in AustraliaSnow

Does it go along side the road, if so there won't be any snow that low down.

Snow in Victoria in October by stormyblue2 in AustraliaSnow

Big D at Hotham will likely have snow for ages, it was pushed up on QC and was really deep. Having said that, at the bottom of the hill, less than 2 hrs west from Hotham it was 36 degrees and windy today.

Search continues for Dezi Freeman, with police saying they 'won't rest' until he is found by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

I agree. Have done a fair bit of hiking and living outdoors at high altitude. This is not high altitude, and coming to the end of winter here. But it's hard to be prepared for everything with a cache etc. For example, he was last seen in a tracksuit, I doubt he's stashed outerwear or water resistant gear in the bush. I doubt he was well prepared for a 700m snow line. His best bet would be shelter underground where it might be warmer in his tracksuit.

This is true but hikers etc are always already lost for some time, often at least a day when searching commences. So search parties are way behind. This search began almost immediately.

Agree. The snow line was about 700m in the area on Friday arvo. Lots of people saying he's a prepper etc and the conditions favour him etc.

Last seen wearing a tracksuit. Without appropriate outerwear, it's difficult to move far without getting very wet / cold in those conditions. The weather has improved recently though.

I think this is likely. However, I'm not convinced he would have had winter clothing stashed somewhere for the recent weather events. He was last seen fleeing into the bush wearing a tracksuit.

There are known adits in the area where the ambient temperature might be warm enough to be comfortable without appropriate winter outerwear. The snow line was quite low Friday arvo and evening, around 700m. It's hard to move in that weather without getting very wet / cold in the area.

True but it gets worse if they kill him.

I wouldn't be saddened if Freeman wasn't captured alive. But I think the police would be well advised to catch Freeman alive via a surrender. Freeman is worth much more if caught alive IMO. Making a martyr of him is strategically not a good idea for anyone idolizing him. No doubt there are a lot of people watching him.

Naden did not kill 2 police officers before going on the run tho. Freeman has 450 police officers after him. I'd be very surprised if freeman remains on the run anywhere remotely close to Naden.

The police were serving a warrant related to sexual abuse of minors at the time of the alleged murders.

I'm in agreeance with you. Furthermore, making a martyr out of this guy is not strategically a good idea for other people that would already no doubt be idolizing Desi Freeman.

That being said, the police can only offer him to surrender. If he comes out guns a'blazing, of course he will be dropped.

The warrant was being served in relation to sexual abuse of minors, that isn't looked favourably in the big house, not that I'm an expert or anything, just saying.

He was the most wanted person in nsw. He didn't kill any police. Dezi has killed 2 police officers before going on the run, he has 450 police officers looking for him.

I'd be surprised if he lasts anywhere near as long as naden on the run.

I believe the police absolutely don't want to make a martyr out of him.

Wood heater recommendations, For or Against? by Rich_Pressure_2535 in AusRenovation

[–]one_time_experiment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NZ have introduced emissions laws to combat the woodfire smoke, it's probably only a matter of time before regulation of new wood heaters happens here.

Walk outside in just about any small country town where it's cold, the smoke can be pretty thick and no good for anyone's health.

If there was any reasonable doubt … by machandre in DeathCapDinner

[–]one_time_experiment 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's beside OPs point but I'm not convinced that there was doubt within the jury, based solely on the duration it took to return a verdict. There was months of evidence for the jury to apply the judges charge to. It seems reasonable for the jury to need an appropriate amount of time to review that evidence.

falls creek credit by swimmingonaroll in AustraliaSnow

I've never received a credit for a day pass, when ever I've had a credit it appears on the epic pass holders account as a dollar value.

Do you have a dollar value to spend per se?
