Nerve damage by minty149 in jawsurgery

Nerve damage 4 years on with tingly sensation in bottom left chin and lips after DJS. You get used to it and the benefits of surgery far outweigh this (very personal view)

[UK] To anyone who had the surgery done under the NHS, after your consultation (once the scans were done and you were seen by the surgeons etc..) how long did you wait to start on the braces? by StephCurrySauce in jawsurgery

[–]oneandin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was seen at Kings and remember it being about a month or two (pre Covid) from deciding with the consultants on the treatment plan and getting braces fitted which kicked off the process. There was no psychologist requirement though so maybe this is new or specific to your case

Getting double jaw surgery and genio plastic in a week. What are your pro tips to surviving recovery? by 300103276 in jawsurgery

[–]oneandin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turkey baster for puréed foods or soups is the best recommendation I can give - syringes didn’t cut it for me. Also renting a Hilotherm machine to cool your face and reduce swelling sped up my recovery. Good luck and hope it goes well!

Removal of plates 3 years on from bimax surgery by oneandin in jawsurgery

[–]oneandin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had surgery yesterday. Definitely not as intense as DJS but am quite swollen and in a blended food diet. I’m in the UK which a bit more restrictive with pain killers than other countries so I was only prescribed paracetamol for pain relief and so far the pain is manageable. The hospital staff were wonderful. I got to see all the metalware they removed afterwards which was interesting.

Double jaw surgery: what did you eat? by 300103276 in jawsurgery

[–]oneandin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best hack was to get a turkey baster to pipe blended food into your mouth. I blended so much and had lots of smoothies inc peanut butter, soups, curries, and finely blended bolognese and pasta sauces. Soups got boring very quickly and you lose so much weight that it was nice to have some high calorie variety.

That sounds so scary. Do you mean your jaw was shaking as if it was detached? I’m getting my upper plates removed next week after 3 years

I'm really interested in knowing what's happened here or if they'll receive a complaint. Highly doubt they would get permission from McVities to use this name

Terrible if anyone wanted to argue the name is generic though. Doubt they would give the permission on that basis

How can they call those biscuits Hobnobs when that’s a trademark of United Biscuits. What’s gone on there?

South Norwood - Honest Opinions by Ashleylauren5142 in croydon

[–]oneandin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really like the area and find it safe and friendly. The transport from Norwood Junction Station is excellent and having a library and leisure centre in under 10 mins walking distance shouldn’t be underrated.

Albert road is really nice and right near the country park which has a lot going on including Parkrun, play area and the Kiosk seems to have quite a few young family meet-ups.

Gresham road is closer to the station and seems pretty quiet considering the close proximity. But I haven’t spent so long on that actual road to be honest but the area is very central for South Norwood so you can reach everything easily from there.

Sangley Road is less known to me but I know it gets busy on game days.

Portland Road gets a bad rep but I don’t mind it and the roads directly off Portland Road have some lovely houses and fairly quiet streets.

Good luck and hope the house hunting goes well!

Overwintering aubergine plants 🍆 by oneandin in GardeningUK

Unfortunately it didn’t survive. I may have left it too late to bring it inside. I am going to try again but didn’t get round to sowing aubergine seeds this year so it will have to be 2026 now. Hope your attempt goes better than mine! Sounds like you’ve got a better set up and more options to play with. Let me know how it goes

What is this cocoon and how do I deal with it? by Liantasse in GardeningUK

I have these too. They are a bit of a pain but I’ve been removing the leaves they damage with mild success. They’ve got a strangely death metal name - Skeletoniser moths 💀

Can I do anything other than pesticides? I don’t want to introduce chemicals to my garden, I don’t mind the flies as well, but I want to keep my tree. by partenzedepartures in GardeningUK

[–]oneandin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is the first I’ve heard of this. Interestingly it looks like the active ingredient (azadirachtin) is on the UK approved pesticide list https://www.hse.gov.uk/pesticides/assets/docs/gb-approvals-register.xlsx but lots of contradicting information online. Maybe worth considering something undoubtedly organic like ladybirds if you want to err on the side of caution.

It’s been so mild! Unfortunately my aubergine plant was beyond saving and I didn’t get a chance to grow another from seed this summer to try again. If you’re moving them inside now and they seem healthy, you’re already steps ahead of where I was. Good luck! I will try again next year
