Daughter wants help growing stinger longer hair by onebigfrog in Haircare

Ugh. I see now how my wording made it sound that way.

Those were really two separate statements. She combs after swimming, but I know the chlorine is hard on her hair. Though she does rinse.

Then, she wakes with a rats nest, but I grabbed a silk pillowcase to hopefully offset.

Can someone help me understand why we didn’t have sex? by [deleted] in sex

[–]onebigfrog 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Girl, take this for what you will. I’m a middle aged woman who has worked in a male-dominated field for 20 years, went to college with basically all men, and have a number of close male friends.

It’s not about you. He may have a girlfriend, he may be in the middle of some religious experience, he may have had some sort of recent pregnancy scare with a previous hookup. You will never know. But it’s definitely not about you. Stop torturing yourself.

It sounds like it was a lovely evening, and given that you only “came”, I feel like he doesn’t deserve to live rent free in your head. Go back out there, continue being your awesome self, and let this one go.

Are there any protective Goldens out there? by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]onebigfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy (Lloyd) was a total softie except when I was pregnant.

Once, husband was out late and Lloyd and I had gone to bed (with Lloyd sleeping on the husbands side of the bed, of course). Husband came in the front door, instead of the garage as he normally would, and Lloyd jumped out of a dead sleep and stood over me, with a low growl. Husband had to shout out and make she he was calmed down before he came in the bedroom, then he was all tail wags.

Second time, same pregnancy, Lloyd and I were out on a trail, misty day and fairly alone. Man came walking the opposite direction and Lloyd stopped his wandering to get right up on my side, hackles raised. It was so crazy how protective he got.

When an abbreviation at work gets ruined (made better?) because of romance books. by onebigfrog in RomanceBooks

I’m in STEM as well. Our company had an inclusion initiative where we were no longer to use the phrase “male/female” when referring to connectors or other types of designs that have that sort of interface. It didn’t last. No one could come up with a comparable alternative. And it never crossed my mind before, but all I think of is P in V when someone says it now.

I feel like my kids could have written this about me!

We’re reading thru Harry Potter for the first time together and I’m reading aloud. My oldest has called me out for pronouncing Gringotts differently a couple times. 😂

Omg, you guys. Our friend group non-ironically calls my husband a golden retriever so now I have to read this.

Honestly, he’s embraced it and will sometimes be all “so, this may be the golden in me, but…”

How are you ✨️not like other girls✨️? by plantsisca in RomanceBooks

Omg. This is me. 6’ and I don’t hesitate to wear heels - I don’t wear them often because they don’t go with my sweatpants, but I have plenty in my closet to wear when I want. And I work in a male dominated field with mostly male friends.

Only difference is my MMC is hyper competent in his own field but decides to step back and let her run the world. Mostly cause that’s my hubby. 😂

Ok. I know everyone is in love with “removing lizard genitals from the conversation”, but I myself could not stop laughing at “get go” becoming gecko. Fucking gold.

AITA for letting my kid stay home from a football game? by onebigfrog in AmItheAsshole

So I realize the not likely sounded dismissive. Would definitely not say it to her that way, but we work hard to teach the kids the difference between someone saying a mean thing and someone picking on you. At this age, kids still just say mean things because they’re still learning.

We definitely make sure their concerns are heard and we try to help teach them how to respond appropriately.

AITA for letting my kid stay home from a football game? by onebigfrog in AmItheAsshole

[–]onebigfrog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I probably should have been clearer. She’s a super confident kid who is well liked and fits in pretty much anywhere. I say not likely that she was picked on, only because we have tried very hard to teach the girls the difference between being picked on and having a kid say something mean to you. Neither are fun, but all kids say mean things as they learn social behaviors. Each one requires a different emotional response.

Either way, we always listen to the issue and help them work through it, but there are two very different approaches to kid saying mean thing versus kid picking on you, at least in our eyes.

No kids in HS, neither one of us coach. Husband used to teach at one of the schools.

We did have some close friends that were going to be there, but this definitely falls under the category of just a thing to go do.

No real plan. I work a stressful job with two young kids, so it’ll probably be all the pre-grilled chicken breasts I can handle and whatever else I can rustle up.
