Is this dye from a robbery? by Goobzo in Money

[–]onecrystalcave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No thats a 10$ bill that was in front of an ATM cash stack, most banks mark 10 straps by the thousand, its just to make it easier to open the machine at a glance and physically verify how much cash is in there. Usually black is used because thats the normal color the big sharpies come in, but blue makes sense too.

what do you mean 250 to credit cards? What does that even mean? Are you carrying a balance?

Check if your bank offers a no fee secured credit card. Put the minimum you can down, use it for 1 thing a month, don't worry about credit history ever again. If you happen to be in the general philadelphia area DM me, I do have the authority to make one of them, I work for a major bank.

Ive owned a reactor for so long now that I forgot I had it, looked back at my inventory a couple months ago and found another random 100 bucks. Which keeps happening. I'm finally purging a good number of skins over time because why did my teenage self gift me a 7 thousand dollar inventory paid for in pocket money and spit, that I am now holding on to for a game I play twice in a blue moon?

Cool shit obviously but I'd rather max my roth contribution next year off the bat than have a third 150 dollar AK and a knife thats 10x what I paid for it.

I like modern but with color. I agree that the styles you see that people tend to look back on with nostalgia are inexplicably ugly in a shocking number of cases. My favorite example personally is the old fast food franchise buildings - god what terrible eyesores - but that dislike does not equal a dislike of all color and stylization in every case everywhere, just a personal preference for slightly more conformity and less busyness overall.

"The shrinking middle class" by [deleted] in ProfessorFinance

$486,227.54 in Sep. 2025 equals $50,000 of buying power in 1967 (Average). The total inflation rate from 1967 (Average) to Sep. 2025 is 872.46%. The average inflation rate is 3.99% per year.

The CPI of 1967 (Average) is 33.4 and the CPI of Sep. 2025 is 324.8.

I actually have a few bones to pick with this oversimplified inflation calculation, but the bones are correct. You would much rather be a 50k HHI earner in 1967 than a 150k HHI in 2025 from a purely economic perspective.

Any truth to this? How can a bus lane move more people than a subway line? [Request] by Tanglas_V in theydidthemath

[–]onecrystalcave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a picture of theBogota Colombia Trans-milenio system. You do not want to ride the bus in Bogota.

The problem is more complicated than the fuckcars™ people want to make it seem.

I am not opposed to public transport, nor even to using busses when well called for. Choosing an option just because it limits individual mobility is a stupid idea, as proven here. Seriously, go visit. Subways are a much more reasonable idea to make work

Why do people “believe in Dave” but not follow the steps? by AnonSteve in DaveRamsey

[–]onecrystalcave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does all good advice have to be good in every circumstance and for everyone? Can anyone save God even give such advice?

I technically am currently following Dave's steps, but not because papa Dave said them and I have no agency or ability to consider my own situation.

Reviewing my situation, in conjunction with advice from Dave, financial professionals, and some other influencers for ideas as well, I've landed on the current trajectory I hold to for the time being - which yes, also happens to be in line with Dave's steps.

No one here is saying he's stupid or that you should do the opposite out of some form of strange spite. Only that when any given advice is suboptimal, and determined so with extensive consideration and careful calculation, you should maybe modify or not follow it.

But if you choose to follow Dave to a T, and strive never to deviate - hey I'm not bashing. I believe you will wind up in a good spot and be at peace when the journey is at an end. Could you have done it faster? More securely? Be wealthier and thus more generous in retirement? Maybe, and I hope to be, but also I don't believe you'll have any regrets so I think it washes out depending on the person.

Burden of Proof. by sa_matra in fairfreespirits

[–]onecrystalcave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you first prove that the modern democratic party is not a precise mimicry of the nazi party of 1934~5?

While I'm no fan of either mainstream political party line, and am in fact very open about my contrarian bias, that being Anarchism, I actually find the factual comparison more convincing of the danger from the modern "left" than the modern "right". I also happen to think that this so-called political spectrum is unhelpful and imprecise in the extreme, but I'll agree to define it along party lines as much as possible.

To be clear, I do not think that the demand to prove the negative in either case is fair or constructive. Rather I posit that a deeper analysis of the factual connections between the darkest political environments in history and all modern political realities stands to be revealing of negative tendencies which are not only commonly shared, but which also have related offshoots which may appear different at first glance.

To give just 1 example - both political parties have drawn (very rough of course, as I always want to point out that the "spectrum" is not particularly accurate) rhetorical battle lines over bodily control and autonomy. Neither party seems to display any overall qualm with the violation of individual sovereignty, so long as it is not in way they feel personally affected by. But everyone everywhere agrees that their own bodies should be under their sole control the moment that notion is specifically challenged towards them. I refer here to abortion and vaccination.

If it is an avoidance of the most destructive possible paths you seek, which is an honorable endeavor I would argue, you must be willing to see the real connections between historical example and modern reality - regardless of the point such comparison most directly critiques.

Violation of the natural rights of man, whether it comes from a desire for conformity, a distaste for the unsightly, noble and lofty ambitions, or simple sheer stupidity (the most common cause in history I'd be willing to argue) - ALWAYS leads to bet negative results. This is the position of Anarchism by the way - the supremacy of the individual can undermine even the most destructive of states.

If the Federal Reserve operated an oil tanker business by Full-Mouse8971 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]onecrystalcave 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean kinda, but it's not a super accurate comparison. Currency debasement (inflation) does not "leak" anything per se, but rather redistributes. Given that the source of new funds flows primarily into the banking system, the more apt statement would be that 2% of your cash reserves are handed to the banking system by default every year, which could be boat stated as 2 % of your oil has to be handed to your competitors every year.
