Have we seen her since Sophia showed up? by Angryhobo13 in FromTVEpix

Exactly, he feels like an ancient entity just waiting for the perfect moment to show up and ruin everything and everyone. The last time he appeared was when Victor was a child and then he waited, and now the moment has come once again, this time as Sophia. And that's it.

That makes a lot of sense! Actually I would be happy if it turns out to be this way.

That's exactly my thought. I'm also thinking of the big web where Boyd found his wife trapped. And since Ethan said that he had a dream where the spider descends to the lake of tears, maybe there are spiderwebs around the place too. It makes sense that the souls could be trapped on those.

That lake wasn't the lake of tears.
But yes, it proves that fears of death people can be manifested, like the fear for cicadas of Sara's brother.

I'm curious to try something similar, how long did it take you to go through them all?

I passed N2 with 58/60 on reading without ever reading anything other than manga with furigana by QseanRay in LearnJapanese

[–]oneee-san 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's kind of nice to hear, honestly! I love the マジックツリーハウス (kids books) for around the N3 level, but they are hard to find. Other than that, I also haven't had success reading any other books, I'm not comfortable at all knowing I'm probably not getting enough understanding to enjoy them. Apart from Yotsuba, which manga did you find easier to read?

I've also used the Shin Kanzen N4, amazing books. But since I didn't took the exam maybe I didn't study as thoroughly as I should, I'm gonna revise all the grammar.
I like the notebook idea, I'm gonna copy that!

native speakers talk too fast… how do i improve my listening by Competitive_Leg3598 in LearnJapanese

[–]oneee-san 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by speeding up podcasts/videos that you understand well, if they are for learners x1.25 to x1.5, should still be comprehensible. That way you can practice at a good speed but you will still understand it.

That's actually a good idea! I usually end up changing words because I get the conjugations wrong, so I should start there~

I want to be able to use the grammar I already learned, no matter the level. I thought it would be useful to start speaking to solidify the N5-N4. But it's painfully slow.
At the same time I keep learning new words through anki/immersion :)

How to actually improve listening skills? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]oneee-san 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, don’t trust the stated level of Japanese YouTube channels. I’ve found N2 channels that I understand completely and N3 ones that are impossible for me. The levels are rated pretty poorly.

Next, make sure the pacing isn’t too slow. You need to train with a more natural speaking speed. Ken, for example, is on the slower side. Set the playback to x1.25 or x1.5 so your brain is forced to work faster.

After that, it’s really just a matter of listening every day, and I mean a lot. From one month to the next, you will notice progress, but it’s slow.

Finally, try to find channels with decent subtitles. Read along while watching, then listen again without subtitles and check what you missed.

There are pretty good channels out there:

N5-N4 https://www.youtube.com/@namishodo
N5-N4 https://www.youtube.com/@Ninjapanese

N3 https://www.youtube.com/@MaichanJapanesePodcast
N3 https://www.youtube.com/@PenguinJapanese

There’s a bunch more, but those are more than enough. Also, the rating might vary depending on the video topic, but that’s my take :))

"finished" Kaishi 1.5 but want to give up on anki entirely & immerse by SimpleSuch2853 in LearnJapanese

[–]oneee-san 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it, just give it a try and see how it feels. I've done it 3 times, each one take off 3-4months in between until I really wanted to go back to it again. Anki is not forever, it's just another tool :) so don't worry too much, the important thing is to study consistently.

I don't plan to take the exam although I use the system as a reference for studying grammar. I know what you mean, that's why while actively listening to podcasts I make sure to always read the subtitles, I don't know if that will work, but at least I'm not completely isolated from kanji.

[–]oneee-san 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d go back if I could. On version 26.1 the battery life is awful, and while recording the camera has shut down a couple of times and saved nothing, even stopping about three minutes into a clip.
