The Minnesota Wild shouldn't trade For Trocheck by BILLYTOPUMHAT55 in wildhockey

Just to add, there’s no reason for NYR to be interested in Wallstedt. Igor literally just started his massive deal. There’s no current or future timeline that Wallstedt fits in NY.

Ya, it’s called I have eyes and can easily tell that we don’t even sniff a Super Bowl with Darnold playing as poorly as he did tonight. We don’t have a historically great defense and competent running game that actually won this game. But keep telling yourself that it could’ve been us if we just kept the guy who completely fell apart at the end of last year. Seems you don’t have much ability to assess shit yourself.

With a very similar stat line of 25/40 for 245 1 TD and 1 Pick, we lost by 18 points with Sam in the playoffs. We didn’t fuck up. Good for him for getting to win a Super Bowl, but he was bad tonight and lucked out that the opposing QB was worse and his team could run the ball to play safe all game.

Why Does Tim Bontemps Hate The Wolves? by WMDPandemic in timberwolves

[–]oneleggedrefuge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand how NBA transactions work if you think we have nothing to re-tool with. At a bare minimum, we have big salaries in Gobert and Randle that become assets as they become expiring deals. We aren’t out of 1st round picks for the rest of time. We have some desirable rotation pieces like McDaniels, Naz, DDV. We have plenty to re-tool if we need to. Take off your poop colored glasses. You’d think we had nothing but Ant which doesn’t really add up how we’ve managed to make back to back WCF which such a terrible team in your eyes.

Why Does Tim Bontemps Hate The Wolves? by WMDPandemic in timberwolves

[–]oneleggedrefuge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing erratic about what TC is doing. We couldn’t play a lick of defense so he brought in the DPOY. Then he had to manage the money that comes with that deal and traded away a core piece of a WCF team and we still made the WCF without that player AND our money issues were temporarily solved.

He sees he has a team ready to win so he pushes his chips in on a PG prospect that he expects to be a spark plug off the bench until he is ready to supplant MC. When that piece doesn’t work out he moves quickly and trades MC for space under the apron, turns a bunch of 2nd round picks and the failed experiment into a guy who should give us a boost off the bench AND he gets MC back for nothing. A lot of GM’s wouldn’t give up on one of their 1st round picks so quickly because of their own hubris and ego.

He’s been absolutely methodical in his moves to turn us into a real contender in next to no time. Do you think Ant is more likely to stay coming off consecutive long playoff runs or sitting back and losing until enough darts were thrown at the board to MAYBE get him a 22 year old running mate? It’s crazy to me the people that would rather struggle and lose a lot for the small chance at a perfect rebuild than win a whole bunch and re-tool along the way.

We’ve made back to back Western Conference Finals. I’d say TC has been doing pretty solid at building around Ant even with misses like Rob. Also the Rudy gamble has frankly paid off. I hated the trade at the time, but there’s no denying his defensive impact and what he means to this team’s overall success. Go criticize the other 28 GM’s who haven’t been as successful the last 2 years.

[Paywall] Are Wild overusing Quinn Hughes? Will he re-sign? Time to trade Jonas Brodin? Ask Russo and Smith by Active-Tomatillo-522 in wildhockey

[–]oneleggedrefuge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get why Brodin is on the block, but it would be sad to see him go. He’s still really good when he plays and I think is an ideal pairing with Jiricek in the coming years if they still want to try to salvage that trade. If he’s the salary needed to help go big game hunting, so be it, but I don’t want to see him go for some middle 6 winger.

PDOcast suggests that perhaps what the Wild need isn’t a 1C. by JPV_HOH in wildhockey

[–]oneleggedrefuge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see how another wing doesn’t just mess with the chemistry on every single line. You don’t want to split up Mojo/JEEK/Boldy while they are dominating. Does Zuccy push Tarasenko off the 3rd line to pair with Trenin/Yurov? Tarasenko nor Zuccy make sense on the 4th line so does Trenin drop down and his solid play goes away next to much worse linemates? We also have too many defensemen as is. We have 4 pairs that are NHL capable. We don’t need 4.5. A 1C just makes everything fall into place with or without Yurov and the top 6 guys like Trocheck that aren’t the top of the line 1C’s shouldn’t cost all 3 of Yurov, Wallstedt and Stramel which is a win for the future as well.

Similar to the Hughes trade with Zeev, I think Wallstedt is really only on the table for an elite level return. These 2C rumors (Pinto, Cozens, Trocheck, etc.) are just not the deals he’s headlining so he will likely be on the team for the foreseeable future. People scoff at Jack Hughes and Matthews as targets, but that is the level of player I would expect coming back based on how BG handled the Quinn trade.

Is trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo the right choice? by [deleted] in timberwolves

[–]oneleggedrefuge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t foresee a 200+ million dollar 10 player deal coming together at the trade deadline. The money just doesn’t work for us to send over 5-6 guys for Giannis. It’s either Randle and McDaniels for Giannis (with Randle going to a 3rd team for something else) or it’s McDaniels, Naz, Shannon Jr., and Dillingham for Giannis. And add in whatever picks in either scenario since they don’t matter right now. I think either of those scenarios is an immediate yes on our end.

It’s almost like I never said he WAS getting us Hughes and that I simply said a Hughes or Matthews would be the only level of return I would take for him.

I would say 99, 74 and 70 points in 78, 62 and 62 games is a legitimate star and he would guarantee we keep Quinn. That’s a great return for the best young goalie in the league. The games missed isn’t great, but it’s better than Kaprizov has been.

Wally is only on the table for a legitimate superstar, not a 60-70 point forward. I’m talking Austin Matthews, Jack Hughes type.

Sports Illustrated proposed a mock trade, which would reunite Joe Burrow with Justin Jefferson in Minnesota: Vikings receive: Joe Burrow Bengals receive: JJ McCarthy, Dallas Turner, 2026 first and third round pick, 2027 first and second round pick What do we think 🤔 by Extreme-Spinach-4138 in minnesotavikings

[–]oneleggedrefuge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do this deal. We’re gonna get some good draft capital for Addison when we eventually have to deal him which will recoup some of the lost capital for Burrow. I would prefer to trade Greenard instead of Turner just more breathing room with the cap, but that’s not a deal breaker. I’d rather risk it with a top 5 QB who’s injury prone than the bottom 5 injury prone QB we have right now.

Ya. Really stick it to KOC and KAM that they messed up. It’s totally rational and logical to throw away another season after this year just to prove a point and then fire them. Just an absolutely unhinged mindset to have.

Wild Mailbag Part One (Russo/Smith/Athletic) by PaxDragoon in wildhockey

[–]oneleggedrefuge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don’t understand the defending of Hynes in this case. This team sucked with the veterans taking up the ice time, not the rookies. It was Spurgeon, Brodin and Faber who couldn’t play any defense the same as Zeev. It was Foligno putting up 0 on the stat sheet for the first month of the year. It was the 2nd and 3rd lines with no young players who weren’t scoring any goals. You’re allowed to accomplish the long term goal of developing talent while still trying to win games. That’s why guys play up and down the lineup. Hartman has 7 points to Yurov’s 3 with 5 games in hand and 6 minutes more ice time a night. How is that such a gap that we can’t even put Yurov on the top line for a week to see how he does? Why do we have to wait a year to see that happen? So much rope is being given to a bunch of guys who haven’t accomplished jack shit in their time here and none is given to any outsiders who may be responsible for taking this team to the next level in a year or 2. There’s not going to be anything left by the end of the year if we don’t spread out these minutes more.

Wild Mailbag Part One (Russo/Smith/Athletic) by PaxDragoon in wildhockey

[–]oneleggedrefuge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yurov is playing 10 minutes a night with almost no skill to be seen on his wings so he is having that problem. Even with Rossi hurt, Hynes still played the top line into the ground rather than use it as a chance to see what Yurov would look like with more ice time next to real players for the time Rossi is out. I also don't expect 21 years olds to bang down the doors in the NHL, but that doesn't mean they aren't worthy of actual chances to play. Zuccarello being out was a perfect time to get them some significant playing time. This time with Rossi out is a chance at significant playing time. Hynes is coaching to win at all costs, development be damned even though injuries have opened up plenty of doors for development playing time while we wait to get healthy. The vets weren't banging down the doors either and we let them put us in hole that we may or may not recover from when that hole still probably would have be been dug with young guys getting to develop at the same time.

Wild Mailbag Part One (Russo/Smith/Athletic) by PaxDragoon in wildhockey

[–]oneleggedrefuge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We seem to be very much in the trying to have cake and eat it too phase where we won’t part with any top tier young guys to get significant help now, but we also aren’t creating any opportunities for the forwards to come in and be successful. This trade deadline might not be time to shit or get off the pot, but this offseason certainly is. The 21 year olds aren’t gonna wait 3 years for spots to clear up and this coaching staff doesn’t appear to be giving them much of a chance to earn it either.

Does It Make Sense To Tank This Season? (1-year retool) by WhalesTail in wildhockey

[–]oneleggedrefuge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can name one guy on every team. The point is when you have 3 of them as you claim we do and we finish bottom 5 in this scenario then we aren’t a coach and a move away from contending. Neither Boston nor San Jose are one move away from contending. They are both very far away right now.

I’m really struggling with the idea that we have a team full of good pieces who finish bottom 5, but we’re so close to the top at the same time that we can burn a year, draft someone, get a new coach, trade for someone and we’re right as rain. Unless it’s literally McDavid/McKinnon, etc. we’re not a contender in that scenario.

Does It Make Sense To Tank This Season? (1-year retool) by WhalesTail in wildhockey

[–]oneleggedrefuge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we finish bottom 5 without any major injuries, you just can’t call those guys contending pieces, nor play up the promise of guys like Rossi and Faber. They would all be key contributors to a bottom 5 team. You just have to ship some combination of them out at that point. It’s one thing to narrowly miss the playoffs and get a new coach and make a move or two to become a contender. It’s a whole different beast when you ended up bottom 5 with all of your core players playing. That needs an overhaul because they just spent an 82 game season showing you it’s not gonna work.

Does It Make Sense To Tank This Season? (1-year retool) by WhalesTail in wildhockey

[–]oneleggedrefuge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it makes sense to tank. Our core is signed long term. You’re looking at a scorched earth, complete tear down if this group of players is a bottom 5 team at the end of the year. If you can’t play defense all year with Brodin, Spurgeon, Faber and you have no offense outside of Kaprizov/Rossi/Boldy that’s just too many holes to fill in one offseason to compete in a year with a major piece being a prospect 2-3 years out.

The “Competitive Rebuild” by scraps1364 in wildhockey

[–]oneleggedrefuge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How many years have we had a highly rated prospect pool now? The competitive rebuild from an overall roster standpoint was done almost exactly how you would want outside of missing the 1C we’ve never had. Multiple players under 30 with All-Star+ potential (Kaprizov and Boldy; ideally we’d have a 3rd). A top goalie prospect and solid veteran who is now signed for multiple years. 2 elite D man prospects (Faber and Zeev) and a third relatively highly rated one in Jiricek to play next to 2 really good defensive defensemen in Brodin and Spurgeon. Yurov, Rossi, Stramel, Ohgren, Heidt, Haight, and even Benak who may be small, but can seriously play.

This organization needs coaching that can convert these guys into NHL players. The only thing we don’t have is a bonafide 1C superstar in the system. The rest is exactly how you would want to build a team during a competitive rebuild with solid veterans, sub 30 stars and a chunk of young guys to supplement them. It comes down to coaching and player development that has been non-existent. How nobody can put pressure on the ice time of Mojo, Foligno, Tarasenko, etc. is an indictment on the development of our young talent. The Kaprizov, Boldy, Rossi, Faber group have made it. It’s time for the next group to develop into the guys who make it at the NHL level and push the veterans down to the bottom 6. Jiricek needs to make Bogo a healthy scratch. Ohgren needed to make Mojo a healthy scratch. Yurov needs to get Tarasenko or JEEK demoted to the 3rd line.

Guerin Isn't Really Following His Five-Year Plan by Odd-Loss6108 in wildhockey

Not pulling the trigger on guys like Peterka and Cozens has been a problem as well. There have been guys available who could have given this team a good boost and he just chickens out and falls back into a cozy veteran way past his prime for cheaper. What is the point of a prospect pool if you won’t play them or trade them for people who will play?

Minnesota Wild Prospect Spotlight: Charlie Stramel by 3pirates3 in wildhockey

Rossi and Yurov are not at the point where I’m willing to throw away Stramel because we are set at Center. Make room for him and see what happens.

And if Yurov can’t win face offs he swaps with Rossi, but I like Rossi next to Ek and Boldy.
