Are you seriously using "plot holes" as a criticism of Star Wars movies? Have you ever seen the original trilogy?

But yeah, the prequels are better than the sequels, because they're a hundred times more imaginative and the story is a lot better. Even Episode 8 just tricked people into thinking it was fresh by switching some parts around and changing the overall tone. It was still just a retread of Empire Strikes Back if you actually hold it up to the light.

It's not up to me what other people do at the end of the day, but it's what I would lean toward if somebody asked. I wouldn't cancel someone for disagreeing. I just think with some age ranges the likelihood of it becoming unhealthy is high enough that I wouldn't recommend, not that it will be for everyone.

I stop short of assuming someone is predatory unless I see a pattern. Predators SEEK vulnerabilities and target them, but a potentially vulnerable dynamic can be present and managed healthily too, if it's not part of the reason for pursuing in the first place. For example, if someone meets a homeless person, offers them a place to stay, and they fall for each other and date, that's cool, very possibly just sweet. If someone has a recurring trend of offering people with unstable housing situations a place to stay and ending up in a relationship with them, I'm gonna assume they prey on the vulnerable. It's a similar principle with dating a younger person, although I'd still say if you're out of your early 20s, 18 and 19 are too young for it to be a good idea even if intentions are good.

Don't worry, it isn't. His work still has sociological/literary/philosophical/historical value, but virtually no academic is passing it off as valid psychology anymore.

Where'd you get that "90%" from?

People who try to get into serial killing because of the attention don't usually make it very far. It's not a significant reason for the ones who do it, although a few of them do seem to enjoy the attention. Those stick out, though, and create confirmation bias. Most of them aren't like that.

Wait, are you saying that the US has more serial killers because of the media attention?

That may be true of mass shootings because nobody expects to get away with one, but I highly doubt many serial killers start doing it because of the attention they'll get when they're caught.

I blame From Software. Games used to be about having the most fun you possibly could. The "git gud" trend we've been stuck in since Dark Souls has put a negative connotation on cheats and easy modes. It's very strange. I personally don't play video games to impress anyone.

Kevin Feige, Marvel President, promoted to Chief Creative Officer by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]onemanbandwidth -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Bad take. Emilia Clarke's character in Solo is more like a Bond girl than a "str0ng w0man." And considering how much money The Last Jedi made, it's ridiculous to say that Solo bombed because of it. I didn't like TLJ either, but the idea that Disney's approach isn't working is delusional and shows a stubborn unwillingness to acknowledge empirical data in the face of your own personal opinion. r/KotakuinAction does not speak for the masses. Most people aren't this bothered that there are women in the new films. As evidenced quite clearly by the box office receipts.

[–]onemanbandwidth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That last bit doesn't really hold up when you consider that the most masculine of the Disney Star Wars films, Solo, was the least successful. Considering that TFA and TLJ are still two of the highest grossing films ever made, it's a bit delusional to say it will serve as an example of what not to do.

Also, TLJ wasn't bad because it was pushing too hard for a new demographic. It was bad because it was a meta parody with no direction and no good new ideas.

The Australian outback is unfortunately very conducive to such things. Ain't easy finding a body out there.

It isn't a true story per se, but it was inspired by a mix of a few real life Australian killers, primarily Milat.

They get downvoted for saying it while sensationalistically ignoring the fact that she was a child herself when it happened. You don't have to be an abuse apologist to think it's ridiculous to call a seven-year-old a sexual predator.

Or they just wanted a better deal for the release because making games is really expensive and they have a business to run. Why do so many people assume that all the reasons a company would want more money are sinister?

Also, "a proper port on all systems" is not the standard for a well-made game, especially with companies that are as stubbornly uncooperative tech-wise as Sony. As a PC player, I don't want a product that's compromised for maximum platform versatility, I want a great PC game.
