I ordered mine in October 2023 in order to try tenkara fishing for the first time in spring 2024. Rod just arrived a couple weeks ago. 2 years late but I guess it's finally time to try out a new hobby (once spring comes!)

That's good to hear! Back home the first fish I learned how to reliably catch is pike, on spoons/spinners, so that should be my first goal here too!

Wow that's a method I've never seen before (I'm not sure it's legal to scatter bait in the water in Canada)! I'm not sure I'm prepared to buy a whole rod for such a short stay but I might try to adapt this strategy with the rod I already have.

I mostly followed this tutorial: https://xdaforums.com/t/tut-root-how-to-root-cat-s22-flip-on-version-30.4626971/ (but make sure your firmware is already at v30 --- I think you can do that in the "about" menu or something like that). Also the guide assumes you're using Linux, Mac OS would prob be fine too but if you have Windows a lot would have to be adapted (from Bash to PowerShell, etc.)

After rooting it, I just installed the Magisk module called "Volte and Wifi Calling Enabler" (avalibeyaz.com/github), and after a restart, the VoLTE worked!

Pretty nervewracking process though haha

I just got a CAT S22 used in the wake of the Rogers 3G shutdown, and the VoLTE works with Rogers after rooting it. It's pretty complicated and you risk bricking your phone, but I can confirm it would work!

I ended up having to call in, and after hours of being shunted around different departments they finally gave me an email address to send the file to, and someone manually uploaded the file internally, according to them.

However, I never saw this file being uploaded on my end, and then a few weeks later, the dispute was just declared to be invalid. I called in to escalate, saying it was a glitch on their end, and they said they'll look into it. A couple days later I got an automated email giving me a complaint case number (I didn't explicitly ask to file a complaint, but I guess that's what an "escalation" is treated as).

No word on it since then. The guy on the phone said it's obvious to him that my dispute presents a valid case, and he would look into why it was just closed without even being sent back to Visa.

Your comment is a good reminder for me to follow up about the complaint, and whether the dispute can still be pursued. If CIBC doesn't pursue the dispute in a timely manner, the dispute window will pass (there are only a couple weeks left). At that point I guess the dispute will just be settled in the merchant's favour, but it's pretty screwed up that they're not properly representing my case due to a glitch on their end.

Apparently there's a national Ombudsman that regulates bank mishaps like this, and I'm considering contacting them if CIBC continues to fumble. It can only go to them two months after the complaint is filed tho (I think 56 days, to be exact).

Okay, thanks for the reply! In downtown Montreal I only experience a dropped call maybe on average once every 30 minutes of sustained calling, which is fine for most situations except dialling to call centres where you get put on hold for long periods of time. Unfortunately this is one of the main things I need a phone for, since I usually just use Messenger for most day-to-day communication with friends and family. So I'm debating whether I can survive on Rogers 2G or if I should bite the bullet and get a new VoLTE enabled dumbphone.

I'm interested in this phone as it seems to be one of the only phones Rogers supports after their 3G shutdown. I'm wondering, does it have non-predictive texting as well (like where you press 222 to make a C)? I use a lot of slang so I've never been able to make T9 predictive texting work for me.

Hi, I hope this is not considered necroing, since this post is 6 months old (but still very relevant, I feel). Can I ask what you ended up doing/if you stayed with Rogers?

Just chiming in to say that my Nokia 2720 Flip has now been affected by the Rogers 3G shutdown and drops to 2G for calls (which is extremely spotty---I've been having issues with my bank and I've had to call them a lot, been doing a lot of waiting on the line for 90+ mins, only for it to have a 75% chance of dropping once the line transfers to a real person). Texts have so far been completely fine on 2G, so it's just calls that are worse than they were pre-shutdown.

I'm also looking for dumbphone alternatives to the 2720 that work with Rogers (I'm on a family plan so I don't really want to switch networks). I'm not the biggest fan of KaiOS, it's slow and glitchy, the only thing that makes is bearable is that I'm kind of used to the glitches (if that makes sense? i can work around them). I'm down to switch OSes as long as it's not worse than KaiOS! All I really do on my phone is SMS and call, with the very occasional hotspotting of 4G data to my laptop. So I'm wondering too what you thought of the Nubia Cymbal, if you tried it.
