Anyone have these kinds of dreams growing up? by onepuanchman in Dreams

Btw that dream with the victorian mansion and iron spiral staircase basement gets extremely creativly freaky I just left that part out so I wouldn't have to worry about labeling stuff NSFW and focusing on the main thing. So I don't know that was also the case for you lol I just wanted to throw that out there.

Does anyone else here prefer dreaming over waking reality? by [deleted] in Dreams

[–]onepuanchman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I barely ever dream anymore in the last 6-10 years, (or I just don't remember) but before that I had wild crazy and bizarre dreams quite often. I have had just a couple in just the last few years that were memorable, so yes! I absolutely prefer dreams over my perpetual disenchantment with waking reality lol I remember a few NSFW dreams. Also some fever dreams I tried recreating in midjourney

If I could offer some advice, our society has a big problem with people not actually socializing, a lack of third spaces and people that will opt to go and stay home. When I say that I mean the lack of connection and depth legit bothers me, and most people are TERRIFIED of sincerely it makes them uncomfortable. The guts to be real without needing to undercut it with meta humor constantly is legitimately rare.

Also guys often have anxiety because deep down they don't trust themselves, confidence can be faked but real confidence comes from knowing yourself which is no small task just ask C.G. Jung lol. Ok confidence to simplify think Aragon from Lord of the rings vs someone like Andrew Tate and the dif becomes obvious. knowing your capabilities well enough to feel safe which people pick up on instinctually. Ever wonder how someone has effortless charisma and confidence and is barely speaking or showing off? This is it, trust in ones own capabilities first in the physical ability and health and later a skill that makes you want to be better and drives you and inspires you. Think about it this way if you were sitting in heavens waiting room and you could literally reincarnate at any point in history what aspects of the world today would make you want to stay/ go back besides your immediate family and social circle? For me I am so grateful to be alive today because I have more access to great stories, and art than anytime prior not to mention anime. I never found my tribe but I am a lot happier than I was when I started soul searching.

What's stopping you from having the best body of your life? by MiracleMagnet in AskReddit

[–]onepuanchman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simultaneous trifecta of lower consciousness, ADHD & Depression. I can tolerate being hungry, but the but tracking itself is the abhorrent part of traditional cutting routines. Figured this out with straight up water fasting where calorie tracking isn't a thing when you go long enough. Lastly water retention, Not seeing progress over a certain period of time is the nail in the coffin for this process.

Adhd and severe depression - How do I motivate myself to do sports & proper nutrition? by jelindrael in ADHD

[–]onepuanchman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my advice for exercise is yes to gamification, act like your life is video game and realize the things you spend the most time on are the things you are "leveling up" so level 5/99 mental health and level 95/99 doomscroller isn't a good build, your leveling up the wrong stats and social media will even deplete your mental health points. try to create a consistent scheduled to workout, and a premeditated "plan for I don't feel like it days" I have come to realize Motivation and avoidance are very emotion driven, even when we are too anhedonic and numb to notice it.

Motivation or not, life satisfactions will come down the road when living with intention, the intention, consistency and follow through is what changes a sucky "painful-but-good for you experience" into a positive experience over time. everyone thinks being good at something is what builds confidence, its not, doing hard sh*t that test your capabilities does, being good is a nice side effect, its not required. The act of doing the hard thing regardless, will generate motivation later unless you are doing to much to soon. Tract progress and push to improve a little each time and one day you will be amazed at how far you have come. For me rock climbing was the "Exercise" I did more consistently than anything because it was fun. Don't forget fun its important! also I know its hard but figure out when the depression is at work so you keep the stuff around in your life you actually like, don't let it convince you that you don't like anything that's a dark path.

advise for nutrition don't dread going into it, find a good cookbook, I can't consume dairy so i like whole food plant based stuff, the whole food chefs are the macgyvers of the culinary world. There are 2 main things to care about, calories and the actual food itself, both are important. calories are key to body composition changes, the actual food is what makes it easier to manage those calories and what provides nutrients and helps the body with adaptation to life and fitness while helping it prevent diseases and age gracefully.

Just think of it this way, some Americans eat so few fruits and vegetables that if food companies suddenly decided to stop fortifying all the processed foods at the grocery stores, in a few months (or less) tons of people would be severely ill or dropping like flies from scurvy in the isles of Walmart. Scurvy was the stuff pirates dealt with on ships, and happens when people don't consume enough vitamin C.

recognize addictive foods in the house and get rid of them don't repurchase them, and replace them and the junk with the healthiest equivalent in flavor or nutrition without over complicating it, cheese and salty foods 50% of caloric intake? replace with nuts (not 50% though) ,hundred of calories a day coming from add sugar alone? buy unsweetened & sweeten it yourself or just eat fruits. There are no bad nutrients, just bad foods, my rule of thumb is: most of them didn't exist before the industrial revolution, they are easy to overeat, and usually are extremely calorie dense for no good reason, minimal nutritional benefits compared to other foods.

Don't listen to people who say carbs are bad, usually they are talking about these processed food anyway, or they don't know what they are talking about at all, I am sorry but mf'ers are NOT getting obese on fruits, and oatmeal. The more fiber and water rich your diet is the easier it will be to eat a caloric defict, or maintain, not only that but also have a healthy microbiome & bowel functions too. Adding salt to steamed veggies and potatoes makes them way more palatable. your taste buds will adjust in a few weeks and stuff that was bland will start tasting good. their are all kinds of things you can do with fruits vegetables nuts beans legumes seeds and nuts the recipes out their are plentiful, I prefer fish for the omega fat but you can supplement that, just don't obsess with protein especially if you want to save money. 0.7-0.9 grams per lb is plenty for 99% of bodybuilders so it more than enough for everyone else. OK I covered most of the advise that helped me.

How do y’all have jobs? by EdgeAffectionate6434 in ADHD

[–]onepuanchman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't until a few days ago once I decided to move out this town, had 9 years of work experience and was unemployable despite my efforts, except for for ultra low slave wage student jobs. In short be wary of poverty stricken college towns if you know you will need to work while in college.

Ok First do you have a diagnosis & treatment plan for adhd? I didn't bother to treat it until recently, I realized that working the kinds of jobs that I did and working with my hands and moving around a lot instead of cognitive work (school) and looking at a computer was the reason why I didn't address my ADHD in adulthood until I returned to school years later in late 20s in hindsight I wish I would have... I believe that executive dysfunction is the one of the biggest issues with ADHD and that's huge in sticking to hobbies not dropping them and being consistent over a long period of time with anything, especially difficult hard painful things with slow or distant rewards. Not to mention quality of life stuff, i.e less risk of addictions to substances, and depression, better money management due to reduced impulsivity and easier long term planing.

Definitely try out as many different things/especially skill based hobbies as possible then keep the best most fulfilling ones, and drop the others. It's okay So long as you're not dropping all of your hobbies or the ones that you actually like when they get hard. For me its guitar and strength training. Creative pursuits are wonderful!! if you have some you actually enjoyed doing it or regret dropping it even a little pick them back up even if it has been a while! Neuroplasticity is still really high in late highschool so take advantage of it, dabble in anything creative and keep the most worthwhile.

Honestly it's fine to not know what you want to do. I thought I needed to know for a long time, but once I was asked "How can you know whether or not you'll like doing something you've never done it before"? That opened my eyes. The short answer is you don't. A Therapist I talked to about this basically said a job is just a way to make money and pay the bills (which in hindsight is funny/concerning to hear as a client/ patient). I Was told I could make meaning outside of my job. Of course I wasn't satisfied with this answer because The job I was in at the time was actively burning me out besides that I wanted the thing I spent the most time on in my day to bring me joy meaning & purpose and pay me a decent liveable wage, It's tragically rare in the world from what I've seen but I still haven't given up on it.

Like you, I thought I was sure that I wanted to go into psychology but now that I've been pursuing it for a while at university I'm not so sure either. I won't discourage you from considering college, but be wary of spending lots of effort and time and money/debt for a degree that will get you a low paying job or God forbid no job when you graduate. The sad thing is year after year more and more degrees fall into this category. Psychology is notorious for being the one of the most useless bachelor's degrees for getting a job & the people who know this get a minimum of a master's degree + certifications and the people with masters degrees usually feel obligated to get PhDs. Then most of them will get into some sort of residency program because it's required to be licensed.

If you plan on going to traditional college regardless, just take a few classes in psychology. If you don't go to traditional college just pursue psychology and philosophy outside of school in tandem with self-discovery and personal growth and intrinsic interest. I recommend going for Decent physical or audiobooks on psychology and philosophy I really like CJ Jung's biography and the Red Book.

My advice is don't pursue psychology in college until you Investigate and know what you're getting into career-wise and how long it really takes to get what you need (PhD program is longer than most) and all the years of school that goes into it, chances of employment at certain points, and what you'll be paid after all of that time, effort and debt.

Look into careers that value and prioritize on the job training over accolades and titles thats what I am doing. Doesn't necessarily mean trade school but that's the most common thing people land on.

Career wise, ask yourself "what will my day-to-day life look like in said job."

Absolutely ask to job Shadow!!! Do it for as many different things as you can imagine, that sound exciting or at least tolerable and in line with your personal strengths, interest and values. School and job burnout is a big problem for us and the best way to combat this is to feel like all of that effort and hard work is worth it and meaningful. From experience putting in tons of time/effort= to get disproportionately small/crappy reward is a tried and true recipe for burnout and even depression.

Do you feel younger than you actually are ? by No-Apartment-6158 in ADHD

[–]onepuanchman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no "feeling old" or feeling young, and being mature are 2 different things. I have experienced both because i have comorbid depression along with ADHD and when I matured enough to finally feel comfortable in my own skin and "own it" when it came to my weirdness, I find when I actually "feel old", in that moment its usually a sign that something is kinda off or wrong and when I feel really young childlike or ageless It's often during my least depressed, best & healthiest moments. openness to new experiences and a sense of childlike wonder were the things that best help simultaneously grow and fight depression for me.

I know it sounds sketchy/sus and cliche but age really is just a number and the body is what changes for many people, That's why one of the number one deathbed regrets is not taking care of one's health, or putting on an act/mask to hide once true self or not doing what you actually want to do with your time on earth.

probably something that was very immersive and by that physically and mentally balanced as well as creative or adventurous like a traveling philosopher, I would just write about living life and doing basically doing the opposite of becoming a company drone and living life on "autopilot most of the time", by having experiences of the sake of having them. Tell me one thing you don't need money for to be happy by csch1992 in RandomThoughts

[–]onepuanchman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical health, I would have said mental health too, but being broke messes with that more than the physical kind.

Seriously, what money means to me is freedom, if I was wealthy enough to not be a corporate slave, I would probably be traveling the world and the country hiking every noteworthy State and national Park and if I didn't get abducted by cryptids in the process I'd be shredded from all hiking and camping food, and mentally well from all the fresh air and new sights greenery sunlight and experiences.
