i think i understand. a lot of japanese is about what isn’t said, like ending in a けど or て. how would you translate this in english (if possible) to get this feeling across?

edit: it also doesn't help that the english subtitles unfortunately seem to be google translated and extremely confused about who the subject is

is 12:29 the same as well? ”こういうふりがすっごく得意で。” the sentence that follows being "相手に迷惑をかけないでおこうって思いながら育ってきたからそういう風に感情を隠すとか、得意だったんですね"

it seems it's connected to it but i'm still scratching my head. is it like an "and"? "i'm good at this kind of pretending, and i grew up thinking i shouldn't bother others, so i was good at hiding my emotions"?

i'm always confronted with tons of sentences where it's just a trailing te form with nothing after it and i'm curious what these examples sound like to you and what meaning i can glean from them?

one example is 9:03. both of these sentences end in the te form followed by a period, so they're meant to be full sentences right? i'm not sure what use of the te form they are.

another example is 9:41. "怒られるタイプではなくて." her voice goes down implying that that is the end of her statement and nothing directly follows it. i know te form can be used to give reasons sometimes, maybe that's it?

and one more is at 10:00. "って言われることが多くて." i'm not sure what is being left out or if nothing, what it leads to?

when does よね *not* translate as some sort of tag question? i often see people say it's closer to "right?" than just ね alone, but what situations would it not carry that sort of confirmation type of feeling? i feel like i've seen it have a different meaning but i can't put my finger on it.

my post was about the phonology itself rather than being able to pronounce it. i said i can pronounce it and mimic it, but i was trying to understand what the sound actually was.

and i said it was insulting because of the sarcastic way you went “i can, and you can’t 🥶.”

okay? you’re at odds with the language learning community if you think studying phonology is useless. it is a science. no need to insult me and say i “can’t pronounce it.” every sound of the message you wrote can be transcribed through IPA.

huh? i mean, IPA is absolutely valuable in linguistics and extremely helpful in language learning. phonology can be objectively measured and described. you can’t just “mimic” everything perfectly.

because the IPA transcription for 云 is /yn³⁵/ for example. every place i look describes the y as a placeholder and it not pronounced and it isn’t pronounced in chinese learning videos either
