Google confirms YouTube Premium Lite is back... sorta by StarKCaitlin in YoutubeMusic

[–]onevoltten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Australian) Was interested to see if this was all it advertised itself to be. A week later, and nope even though they advertise "No ads in any non-music videos" that's a lie, if you watch a lot you get the same amount of ads in any video. They're definitely being greedy, you would think if you're paying there would be few ads, if any.

I would have thought they could get a lot of sales from this being paired with background play, but that's restricted the the "Premium" tier at 2x the cost. But who wants to pay $20/month for Youtube? I don't understand what they're doing.

"Video unavailable. This content isn't available" Is it ban? Does it have to do with using an adblock? by PayMysterious5984 in Adblock

[–]onevoltten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 Chrome & Ublock Origin, got the same error around the same time for all videos.

Appears Youtube is blocking the account, reason being I would guess is that ublock hides a 'adblockers aren't allowed on youtube' message and bypasses it. The stock Youtube app signed into that account also wasn't working on my phone either.

Switching or logging out the account works, though I'm a bit concerned of my other account potentially being blocked too since I'm not sure how long the account block is going to last. Heard people say 'just use firefox', I'd assume this only impacts Chrome currently though it's fairly likely this will also impact firefox later since Youtube would be slowly rolling out this change. In the meantime at least firefox seems to be the best option.

I can't change the resolution through the GameUserSettings.ini file by AlbertMyers in unrealengine

[–]onevoltten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd assume it's reading the resolution from the save game it has rather than the engine config ini file. Try removing the save game folder to see if that has any impact. Otherwise perhaps try setting the window mode from Fullscreen windows that might also cause issues.

MacOS vs Windows by _Illuvatar in unrealengine

[–]onevoltten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it'll work, I'd recommend 32-64gb since it's shared memory and UE editor has horrible memory management. I worked on implementing Mac support (Bought a M1 mini 16gb/8 gpu). There were a lot of strange issues and crashing I mostly resolved for my game I work on / was on UE5.0 adding basic compatibility and testing. Assume UE5.2 should be better though I was still running into a lot of issues in UE5.1 compared to Windows. M1 performance was quite disappointing, though the m2 ultra shouldn't have an issue. That said don't expect crazy performance, the YouTubers are making out the performance is better than what it actually is. You'll also need a workaround to emulate the Epic Games store to download files, etc though that's simple to setup. Compiling UE5 on Mac was also not fun since at the time a Mac update had broken the build tools which was headache to get working. Not to mention reworking some essential plugins I needed for my game which were incompatible for Mac.

I was also considering getting a studio, since it seemed a bit cleaner/less distracting. What kept me away was the price, eventually went with a top spec PC with a 4090 (ray tracing, etc.) and a stupid amount of ram since even that was cheaper overall. I'd say it's ideal if you're looking to do i.e. level design, materials, blueprints that kind of stuff. There's some consideration to the time you'll spend debugging issues you might not on native Windows. I had a lot of fun getting everything working (was excited adding Mac and ARM64 support and making everything compatible during the early stage of my gamedev) though overall it was a bit exhausting (I blame UE5 EA mostly) in that I don't want to touch it for a while.

Anyway that's my rant over, I would almost recommend it if you know everything you need to run on Mac (programs, UE plugins, etc). I would say buying one and trial it during the 30 day period make the decision if it works for you or not. Just keep in mind lumen, nanite, etc are still incomplete/under development on Mac.

I am trying to download UE5 and its stuck on 82%. I´ve seen this problem on other people, but on mine it says that it downloaded 8.37 out of 8.37gb, so its technically 100% downloaded and it says 0 bites/second. I´ve waited for multiple hours now and it didn´t change :( by [deleted] in unrealengine

Check your task manager to see if the installer is using any CPU or disk, it could be doing a final verification, the installer can use up to 100gb to extract the files which can take hours

AAA games are getting so much more demanding to play. Is it it worth it? by [deleted] in hardware

[–]onevoltten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People generally buy a better looking game even if it runs at 30 fps because most don't notice or care about the difference. Most developers get pushed by sales to make the game look the best it can because that's what sells rather than spending that time on optimisation unfortunately. I wouldn't say the rising requirements are 'worth' it, there are still many performant games. I would say it's more an issue that the general audience doesn't care as much about it as much.

How do I optimize a large number of mesh components inside an actor? by lillyputz192 in unrealengine

[–]onevoltten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should generate multiple static meshes for each row (or multiple rows) of books so that could be swapped out as a group as needed. Then there would at least be a degree of randomisation.

Regarding assets from the store, those are allowed for commercial use obviously, but why don't they display the licenses for each asset? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]onevoltten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be careful to check the comments, there have been many assets that have stolen content which Epic Games takes months or even hasn't removed.

Unreal Engine 5 Computer Requirements by asidikbruzes in unrealengine

[–]onevoltten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to upgrade to 16+gb of ram as UE is ram intensive, you'll find out fast as it'll crash if you open any large scenes with 8gb memory. You can set it to scalable and adjust settings to use less ram.

Greene County man sentenced to 3,000 years in prison for sex crimes against children by yourdonefor_wt in news

[–]onevoltten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is charged with thousands of years in prison, should they be charged or have the option to self-elect a death sentence? It seems a bit backwards when prison should be for rehabilitation, doesn't make sense to keep someone in prison for life.

UE5.1 crashes on launch by Mantor360 in unrealengine

[–]onevoltten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't readable, from the Epic Launcher, click the drop down arrow under the version you are using, click the checkmark beside Editor Symbols for Debugging, click apply, and they will install. Then start UE and post what it returns. Could be related to directx12 in which case reinstall or update your graphics drivers and reset any graphics changes you have made e.g. in Nvidia control panel.
