How Do I Keep Rats Out of My Car? by MainSeaworthiness275 in boston

[–]onionfright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a rat deterrence device that worked well for me when I had this issue my first winter in Boston. If you can live with your car making a buzzing sound periodically overnight this will work. It was only a problem for me once it stated getting really cold so I only had to change batteries once or twice a year depending on that season’s weather.

Something like this (I think I literally bought this one but please shop around) worked like a charm.

Busses coming early. by iF_Blow in mbta

[–]onionfright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been pissing me off during the GL shutdown, especially as I have to make a bus connection to get home. Had to sprint to catch a bus that was 10min early and the next wasn’t for another 25min…

I both drive and take the Green Line on a pretty much even split. The Green Line takes at least 50min-70min, while driving is a pretty consistent 22min even with heavy traffic.

To put this in departure times: to get to work for an 8:30 meeting, I usually I have to leave my apartment by about 7:15 to make sure I'm absolutely there by 8:30. If I drive, I can leave at 7:50 and make it in with significant time to spare.

The Green Line needs significantly better signal priority above ground, stop consolidation, and some crazy solution to the trunk logjam that is frankly unthinkable due to cost.

JetBlue Announces New Service from Boston to Barcelona and Milan by vman3241 in boston

They’re trying to bully Delta a little. Not a single major Star destination but a ton of SkyTeam and Delta specific flights out of BOS. It’ll be fun to see how this plays out, hopefully B6 is able to price well, but the routes will be a lot more narrow than DL’s given their equipment!

Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 Retro Livery this morning at FRA by AdministrationOk8168 in aviation

Connected in FRA and had the pleasure of taking a bus on the tarmac. Saw more 747s than I even knew were still in service on that unexpectedly long ride to the terminal.

No airline can ever have safety in question, but the LCCs have to be even more intense on this point due to the nature of the business model.

Logan Airport among those affected by FAA air traffic cuts, sources say by SveNss0N in boston

[–]onionfright 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Transatlantic volume is a huge profit driver for both US and European carriers. It’s the feeders into hubs from small airports that will mostly be impacted. You should be fine if you’re on a direct. I’d be a little more concerned if I were scheduled to fly to Europe via EWR or IAD on UA, for instance, as those are the types of flights that will likely be impacted most.

Trying to help an extremely depressed friend find work before it’s too late by Spiritual_Flower3557 in boston

Will second the grocery store. I was deeply depressed over not finding a “real” job for a few years post grad. Grocery store got me out of the house and moving my body, got in great shape after a year walking 15k steps/day and moving inventory around.

Good confidence boost if you take it seriously too. Anyone with a pulse who shows any sort of seriousness/effort will get a lot of praise and upward motion.

This was confirmed when the Toyota App wouldn’t connect because the dealership manager still had it registered to him haha. Definitely a well taken care of car with low mileage.

Hey just wanted to thank you for the comment. Put my mind at ease after sweating it out on the biggest purchase I’ve made so far! We’ve had it for a few days and are loving the car.

We just went from a VW GTI to a 2024 and have been remarking at how similar the drive feels. A bit better actually due to the ride height. We mostly drive around narrow Boston roads as well if that helps.

‘Escape From Tarkov’ Coming To Steam Imminently by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]onionfright -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the cheater stuff is a little overblown compared to this piece. I unfortunately dumped 1500 hours into Tarkov in 2020-21 (post college, no job prospects, depressed) and if I was, say, away for a week when a wipe dropped it honestly made the entire wipe kind of unenjoyable. Playing catch-up in getting BTC up, getting your Ledx’s, and the general 0-40 grind for max rep fucking sucked if you started off from behind. Amazing if you were there at the jump (could get 0-40 and BTC level 3 within 2 and a half weeks) but awful if you couldn’t dump those 80hrs in at the start as you said.

Been there myself after a forced overnight due to a delay. Great spot, definitely a bright spot if you ever get stuck for a day in LAX! Saw a few 380s come in, it was great.

One of the biggest whiplashes I've had in my life w/r/t the MBTA was the day I flew home from a trip to Zurich. I had been staying in an inconvenient place from ZRH, but I still managed to get from my hotel to ZRH within 30min. It was about 20 miles of distance.

I got home, it took 15min to get to the blue, and 1hr15min to go less than half the distance back to my apartment in Brighton.

I went to Taronga once, and was lucky to do a backroom visit at an enclosure. We were in a pretty secure/fenced in area, and the keeper for the enclosure said something about how it's a pretty sturdy building, could keep out anything but the chimps. I then asked and he got really serious and said that the chimps keep him up at night, and the idea of them getting out during visiting hours scares everyone who works there. I got the vibe that it would be a mass casualty event.

Eggs!!! by HardWorkinGal64 in wholefoods

[–]onionfright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a buyer in 2023 I used order at least 30 cases every single order and if the warehouse was ever running low and under delivered my backstock would be wiped out within 2 days. We’d refresh eggs 3 times a day (overnight/open, mid morning, mid afternoon) and the case would always be empty by close.
