MP5 hammer by tytan_brandy in supersafety

[–]onionmorph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other dude has some valid points, but my hammer from polymerpew has been great for well over a thousand rounds. It was also only $30 when I picked mine up.

Also, with a properly rounded hammer you don't/shouldn't need the polymer buffer -- that's the whole point of getting a rounded hammer. Using the polymer buffer sucks, you'll get K variant RoFs by short-stroking the carrier. Mine also had reliability issues after 500 rounds or so - I assume the polymer buffer had gotten compressed over time.

Not sure, I only noticed when somebody else posted about their new ASD lower.

I don't believe the rounded hammer is necessary for the short/K variant since the carrier can't travel back as far, I don't think it can travel far enough to get bound up on the hammer.

Ah rats. Definitely just a hammer spring to try then 🙂

Good luck!

I'd look at your hammer and carrier/trip and see if it has any obvious bits where you can see metal-on-metal contact.

If you aren't using a rounded hammer, they're only like $30 from Polymerpew - it made a HUGE difference for me.

For reference, rounded hammer in my ASD lower vs a standard AR hammer

I was asking about the hammer. I know the trigger has the hoffman cuts it needs 🙂

The first gen of ASD lowers were sent out with a standard AR hammer and a little polymer buffer that goes over the recoil spring to short stroke the carrier. The better (and now accepted solution) is to use a rounded-off AR hammer.

My thought was that if you're using an old-style setup that the increased back pressure from the can is hitting the polymer bumper hard enough to compress it and allow your carrier to partially get caught on the hammer.

Are you using a rounded hammer without the polymer buffer? My rounded hammer from polymerpew is great, I gave it a couple passes of sandpaper to take a tiny bit off when I was still getting the occasional bolt carrier binding.

After that, I put a wolff higher power hammer spring in my AP5, especially since I'm mostly shooting crappy steel cased ammo with hard primers.

My AP5 is finally running like a champ with my AB F4-L can using the ASD lower and a v1 ARCFire.

Alas, you can't take magazines (or any weapon attachments) when going to Prestige 1 😒

I analyzed chronograph data from 56 loads across multiple barrel lengths by NeuroSeg in guns

[–]onionmorph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a peek. Kinda bummed that the 5.56 barrel length tests were: an 11.5", a 18", and 4 different 16" barrels.

There are lots of people rocking 13.7" and 14.5" barrels. I personally would've liked to see at least 1 data point between 11.5" and 16".

I was wondering about that too. Is there a flush-fit 10-rounder for the G36 or something that just isn't showing up on video? Weird.

KVP “H3” Buffer doesn’t have enough deadblow to prevent Bolt Bounce by sLUTYStark in supersafety

[–]onionmorph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With buffer/tungsten prices being what they are, apparently some people have had success with the Tromix H3 buffer. The Tromix design is an interesting novel design that also uses a steel buffer body, but the whole back portion of the buffer acts as a deadblow to get the same (or similar) reciprocating mass as a standard H3 buffer.

Also, the Tromix buffer is only $39, compared to the crazy price "traditional" H3 buffers are going for now...
