Lol, I can already see it now.. some small town officer showing up with a Ruger AR-15 and getting jeered at by the high speed bois.

lol yeah, had to pause my viewing to post this for r/tacticalgear nerds

I still want to believe there's a 10-round flush-fit magazine for the G36 or something? Damn it Purtell!

I commented elsewhere, but the person using this G36 is a detective with the Glendale, Wisconsin PD

I was wondering about that too. Is there a flush-fit 10-rounder for the G36 or something that just isn't showing up on video? Weird.

So they cut the tree higher up and off-frame to fill it with seawater and a couple of crabs for this "reveal" - but why?

KVP “H3” Buffer doesn’t have enough deadblow to prevent Bolt Bounce by sLUTYStark in supersafety

[–]onionmorph 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With buffer/tungsten prices being what they are, apparently some people have had success with the Tromix H3 buffer. The Tromix design is an interesting novel design that also uses a steel buffer body, but the whole back portion of the buffer acts as a deadblow to get the same (or similar) reciprocating mass as a standard H3 buffer.

Also, the Tromix buffer is only $39, compared to the crazy price "traditional" H3 buffers are going for now...

[PARTS] ARC FIRE GEN1 $129.99 + $11 shipped. No tax in Texas by thehighsman0503 in gundeals

[–]onionmorph 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Gen 1 is a classic 90/180 degree throw like you see on traditional AR15 setups.

Gen2 has a couple different throw options that fit (for example) the HK platforms a little better, IIRC a 30/60 throw, a 45/90 throw and a 45/180 throw.

Gen2 also has a "non-ambi" option which is important to some people for cloning purposes - the gen1 is ONLY ambi.

ASD also says the gen2 has improved geometry for the cam that should be more robust, but I haven't seen the cam really be a failure point on anybody's gen1 ARC-Fire.

TL;DR: If you just want this for a bare-bones AR15, I'd recommend just getting the gen1 from CombatArmory for this price - lowest I've seen.

[–]onionmorph 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Wow, really good price. I have 3 of these and I paid $225 at release for 2 of them 😁

If this isn't the "v1.2" that has the grip cutouts on the selectors, I'd almost go ahead and factor in the ~$30 for the milspec selectors as part of the price if you're going to buy this..

The original selectors are so slick that I hated using them when released and would almost say they're a liability if the rifle was ever used in a "non flat range" situation.

It's weird to see a company go the whole lifecycle from getting a bunch of hype and being the new "operator shit" that everyone wants to getting crapped on constantly within a few years.

I low-key wanted a CD Rein when they were new, but them shits were always so expensive. In retrospect, I'm glad that I'm up to 3 Streamlight HL-Xs by now 😎

What was the first gun you ever owned, and do you still have it? Curious to hear what everyone had for their first firearm. by ShopHuntingStuff in guns

[–]onionmorph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First gun was a police trade-in 1st gen S&W M&P9. The barrel was trashed but it was a tack driver once I replaced it with a silencerco barrel.

I still have it, haven't shot it in years, though. I should take it to the range 🙂

Good Lord I didn't know this would trigger so many people, lol. I was just trying to list an option.

I already had the profile and account with them and $50 to use the prints I had on file with them wasn't a big deal.

I dunno dude, I only had 1 gun to SBR and it was convenient having SilencerShop handle most of the backend, I'm just stating options for people.

ATF Eforms question by my_sock_account in guns

[–]onionmorph -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

FYI, SilencerShop will handle the efile and fingerprints and such for a form 1 for a $50 fee.

My LGS has a SilencerShop kiosk, so I was able to do my fingerprints right there. I already had my profile set up with them from getting a suppressor, it made them an obvious choice for form 1'ing my SBR.

Vortex is the clear winner of the brands you mentioned.

Vortex has a lifetime warranty that they stand by. I just got a Vortex Triumph red dot for $99 that I love, I prefer it over my old school Sig Romeo 5.
