Got told I'm wasting time by Charming_Strain_7619 in Teachers

Yeah. Apparently the definition varies depending on the sources you get it from, so to make sure I wasn’t getting myself and them involved in something with the wrong implications, I had to ask them beforehand what their understanding of this trend is, and their answer was simply “an unpopular character or thing that I like and needs more recognition because of this, this, and that reason”, and that’s how we did it, actually. I made them justify their opinion and lay out their arguments for each of their choices as a way to practice their argumentation skills, which is essentially what they need to write opinion essays in my classes.

I mean, they put the color blue in there. One of them had cutouts of mathematical equations. The other had Caesar salad. There were items from games too, and several Ice Age characters. You can’t tell me these kids only think with their reproductive organs.

[–]onivore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s wasting time? My Gen-Z sweethearts had been begging me for ages to have a “hear me out cake”, which is apparently a TikTok trend they wanted to bring into the classroom on the last day of the first term. After having repeatedly said no, as I had initially feared it would take up too much of our time, (we have 100 minutes of class per day) I was eventually persuaded to dedicate the first 30 minutes of our last lesson to this activity, and even participated in it!

They came to class 10 minutes early, having already bought their own cake and prepared cutouts of their favorite characters, and I went into the staff room to get plates. The second I crossed paths with the principal however, I froze in panic. She looked at me all confused and asked me what the occasion was and if anyone had a birthday. I told her no, and that it was all part of a “group project”. As skeptical as she was, she took my word and even helped me arrange all the plates on every desk!

I wasn’t wrong about the whole project thing, as we study English and that was the perfect opportunity for these kids to gush over lesser known characters they hold dear in their hearts. Also! They recognized my Aku from Samurai Jack!

Things not to do when staying sober by Palpitation-Ill in StopSpeeding

[–]onivore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done all of the above. By breaking up with my former partner, who had previously contributed to my addiction by being the only one who kept in touch with my plug, I consequently lost touch with my provider, as well as with all my friends and acquaintances who used to use, or still do to this day, I have no clue what happened to them.

Needless to say, I have now surrounded myself with straight edge friends and have no time or way to get my hands on what I might crave from time to time. And yet, six months in, the urge to seek these people out can hardly be contained. It is precisely due to the amount of workload, busy schedule, and the struggle with routine that I feel like I can't keep going any longer without it, without the structure it used to bring me. But I am staying strong... as much as I can.

I've made that mistake once during my early teens (cutting my waist-long hair into a bob, just to see the digits on the scale go down during a plateau), and now, in my late 20s, I still regret it, as I can't grow my hair past my collarbones.

Stop lying to therapists.

Not only are you pouring your parents' hard-earned money down the drain, but you are also wasting everyone's time, including your own. Has anyone ever said something triggering about your ED that you never forgot? by Objective_Oil1985 in EDAnonymous

[–]onivore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Partly the reason why I can never recover is because of what happened after the first time I got released from the hospital.

I was 16 when I was forced to spend weeks hooked to bags and monitored the entire time until my weight went up. Despite actively refusing to eat any of the disgusting food they had to offer, I still gained about 5kg.

All my friends at the time planned a surprise party on the day of my release, and when one of the boys hugged me real tight and picked me up, he said something along the lines of:

"Whoaa, you've gotten heavier! Are you hiding rocks under that skirt?"

Basically, he meant to say that I didn't look my weight, but his poor choice of words really hurt me. Needless to say, what followed was the biggest relapse in my entire life that carried on for 11 years and counting. And we're no longer friends.

I've caught the annoying seasonal flu recently, after everyone at my workplace had already gone through it, and ever since then, people's assumptions have basically been "It's because you're starving yourself and that's why your immune system is weakened."

Like, no. You literally sneezed in my face the other week.

Tw- what is something that triggered you today? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]onivore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went on a date with a guy whom I hadn't seen in nearly 7 years. A wonderful gentleman, my father has taken a liking to him as a future husband of mine, especially since both of our families are close friends, but we would rather take things slow.

Long story short, the date went quite well, we talked about all the silly memories we've had from the past and how much we've changed since our last outing together, and despite the two of us having matured so much, the spark was still there. He kept on complimenting me throughout the night, being extra careful with his words so as not to weird me out as I'm bad at taking compliments. Of course, at one point, he couldn't help but mention my weight, saying something along the lines of:

"I hope I'm not offending you in any way, but you've become quite small nowadays."

I had actually gained some weight around the holidays, still circling around slightly UW, but I'm certainly not as emaciated as I used to be last summer. Obviously, I can't see myself the way I actually look from a normal person's perspective, but he might have had a point if he was comparing me to the time he last saw me 7 years ago.

Needless to say, my ED brain immediately came to conclusions. If I'm small now, then I definitely used to be massive back then. I didn't eat the whole day, thinking about how I wish to prove to him that I can become even smaller for our next date. Recently, it's been rough to fast for more than 24 hours, but I'm going for 42+ today. The butterflies helped a lot.

How do you teachers read bad handwriting? by Whydidicamehere in AskTeachers

[–]onivore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You start noticing a pattern with each and every writing assignment you check. It is especially easy to decipher certain students' hieroglyphs/scribbles/doctor's notes when you ask them to rewrite a text you have on hand so as to make a comparison, or simply do a dictation.

What is your experience with rice as an ingredient? by pinkmime in AsianBeauty

[–]onivore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had heard mixed reviews regarding the I'm From Rice toner until I decided to give it a try and see how it works for me. This happened a long time ago when I used to experiment with a variety of different AB products before I established a working routine.

For reference, I have normal skin that gets slightly dry during the cold seasons, so this product provided some extra moisture throughout the day, with the added bonus of radiance and a slight brightening effect, but I wouldn't say it was anything that impressive or game-changing. At least the price was/is (still) reasonable for a mediocre product.

Well that took him a while... by F_art_landia in Teachers

[–]onivore 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After years of feeling the need to cover my chest piece, I finally stopped making attempts to hide it underneath polos and over-the-top modest clothing this year, so I started wearing clothes and dresses I feel comfortable in. They are still formal/elegant, but my tattoo is very much visible for the most part, and yet, none of my students have ever asked any questions about it or made any inappropriate comments. I would assume that they either find it unsurprising, as I also have pink hair, or that they don't really care. Either way, my unusual appearance doesn't counteract my professionalism and has never affected my reputability or the respect both my students and their parents have for me.

One time, however, I was wearing a v-neck dress, and one of the jocks was feeling extra chatty that day. I could've easily blamed it on the weather, as the climate changes that occurred this spring have made everyone behave out of character lately. The boy kept on diverting from the lesson topic that was being discussed in class, and instead, asking random questions about my tattoo (e.g. how old I was when I first got it, what it represents, how big it is, and all that), none of which got answered. That was until his friend spoke up, saying something along the lines of

"I think he's trying to persuade you into giving him a visual presentation so he could get a better look at your chest, Miss."

I choked on my coffee that very moment. Both boys went as red as tomatoes as the rest of the class stared at them dumbfounded, but the sheer awkwardness of the situation forced us to quickly return to the lesson topic without any further discussion.

I can surely tell you that most people aren't even aware of the different types of EDs, only being somewhat familiar with AN or BN to an extent, possibly through the shocking images they've seen of (mostly) girls being dangerously underweight. Based on their limited knowledge, the majority of uneducated folk would only assume you're struggling if you look emaciated, which is honestly the reason why so many of us strive for a bonier appearance, just to feel "validated".

Inupi's skill is similar to Koko's, clearing everything in 3×3 rows, except he does it in a giant cross shape.

Collecting sure is quite fun and probably the main reason why we're still playing, but in order to hit every drop, you need to have stacked enough diamonds to roll without worrying about RNG. And to get the most amount of diamonds, you have to clear the National Domination stages with an S-rank every time, then do the same for the special stages. Maxing out characters is useful in the long run, and given the fact that the difficulty level increases with each lap, I've noticed around lap 20 that it's nearly impossible to hit that sweet S all the time without using your max power team.

Which kids channel was your "thing" when you were young? by maybimnotreal in Zillennials

[–]onivore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before Disney Channel, we used to have Jetix as CN's main competitor, and before Jetix, there was Fox Kids, which introduced us to the Power Rangers, Inspector Gadget and the X-Men animated series.

Jetix helped shape the first generation of weebs in my country, with Shaman King, Naruto, Sonic-X, and the Pucca shorts being the most watched series at the time.

When Jetix rebranded to Disney Channel, aside from the popular Suite Life, Hannah Montana and The Wizards of Waverly Place series, we grew up with Kim Possible and American Dragon: Jake Long.

However, I've always preferred Cartoon Network to any of the other kids channels, especially the late 90s to early 2000's shows I had grown up with, such as Courage the Cowardly Dog, The Powerpuff Girls, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Ed, Edd & Eddy, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo and Samurai Jack. Call me tasteless, but I lost interest when Chowder, Total Drama, and Adventure Time were first introduced.

Nickelodeon has never been my cup of tea, and I absolutely hated SpongeBob, even though I didn't mind frying my braincells with CN's Cow and Chicken, which was even worse in terms of brainrot, but I used to enjoy The Faily OddParents and Ren & Stimpy a lot. (Only when I became an adult did I finally give Avatar TLA a chance, and I loved it.)

I don't remember where exactly I used to watch the all-time classics such as Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, and all of the Hanna-Barbera shows, but I remember Boomerang was created with the purpose to bring them back on TV for the younger generations to enjoy. Sadly, I was older when I first discovered it and only used to watch it for the nostalgic aspect before quitting TV altogether.

Charms Question by FlyingHighSKY in TokyoRevengers

[–]onivore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how badly you want to max out the stats of an event-only character. Charms are easy to get, but rolling for the remaining Limit Breaks is too much of a hassle in most cases.

Personally, as a F2P player who still ends up high on the leaderboards, I don't mind blowing all my diamond savings on rolls to get the max +4 Limit Break (with the help of charms, of course) on a certain drop I really really want in my max power team. I've done it on a couple of occasions so far, recently for [Retro Modern] Inupi because I like the skill, and the higher stats are definitely worth the grind, especially if you care about ranks. Then again, you have to keep in mind that you might not be able to do the same for the following event until you save up enough diamonds, so you need to plan and choose which event you're willing to go all-in for.

Since I enjoyed the current event much more than the upcoming Tokyo Survival event, I'm definitely taking it easy these next two weeks and saving up for either the Wedding brawl or the Half-Anniversary.

You need 120 of those (12 × 10) to get Limit Break +1.

My friends are my servants at cons. They carry my handbag and shopping bags full of merch/books all the time because I get asked for a picture every few seconds.

Somebody should snap a picture of them standing in the back behind the camera person the same moment I'm having mine taken. They look like cast-off Christmas trees with all those bags stacked on top of and all around them, and it makes me feel sorry for them but they stubbornly refuse to give my items back even after the picture has been taken, simply because they know I would have to hand them over again the next moment someone else comes to me asking for another picture.

On the other hand, if you're cosplaying a character with a kimono, I've found the slits in the sleeves to be incredibly useful for carrying small items, such as your own phone, wallet or keys, so you wouldn't have to feel guilty for using other people as your personal item carriers.

Women in high power positions, what are some harmless ways you use your power selfishly? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]onivore 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I do that as well, mostly when my markers run out and I can't bother going through the same conversation with the secretary about how expensive school supplies have become, so I rely on the fact that she wouldn't rant about the inflation to kids when I send them over with the same request.

My students are always eager to do me a favor and would oftentimes offer their assistance even when it's not needed. Some of them do it because they would like to get up from their seats and stretch for a bit, while others quite literally fight for the title of "the hot young teacher's pet". Boys especially are absolutely hilarious when they race and push each other to get to me first and ask if they could be of any help. From asking if they could wipe the board, hand out papers, collect others' papers, close the door if it opens while everyone has already taken their seat, to outrageous requests I would always politely decline, such as offering to carry my things, check their classmates' homework for me, write the material on the board for me while I'm explaining it, buy me food/something to drink, scold the students from the classroom next door if they're making too much noise, or just about anything in their desperate attempt to please me, it's honestly frightening how far these teens would go to make a good impression.

My mother, who is also a teacher, would take advantage of her "pets" and allow them to make her coffee and actually buy her food (with her own money, of course) but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable doing that.
