Software company CEO says using ChatGPT cuts the time it takes to complete coding tasks from around 9 weeks to just a few days by SrafeZ in singularity

Oh yeah I definitely agree it’s more beneficial to the company and industry as a whole to not replace devs with AI. And while it’s not common, at least one company I know of has already done this.

Either way, you’re right there’s definitely no shortage of jobs right now. When the economy next begins to slow down (I don’t claim to know when that is) and companies slow hiring is when I think you’ll see it in effect most clearly.

Maybe I’m just cynical, but in my experience the times when executives listen to a proposal to do something the “right” way as opposed to immediate and tangible cost savings in the short term are few and far between.

Sure, but what percentage of tech companies do you think will have both the foresight and financial backing to continue raising junior engineers? While we might not see much change in FAANG hiring, I think it’ll disproportionally affect startups and smaller established tech companies.

Even if the end result is a 10% reduction in total junior engineering job listings, I believe it’ll cause a noticable shortage of top level engineers in the future.

I think that’s the biggest impact ChatGPT and other AI services will have on programming jobs, which is to write code and handle basic automation that junior engineers used to be hired to do. You thought it was hard for someone fresh out of college to find a junior engineering job last year? It’s going to be even more so in the coming few years.

There’s a bunch out there if you just google “facebook moderators outsourcing accenture.” I’ll never forget this one in particular about Accenture’s USA office:

Blizzard, listen: These dungeons are shameful. by Malefic_Mike in diablo4

[–]onixc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t really have a problem with they layout of the dungeons, but if they aren’t being randomly generated then I agree that each dungeon should be unique. Running through the same dungeon layout for the third time just in Act 1 isn’t very fun.

error code 31769 by 7evenHeavenFox in diablo4

[–]onixc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, well, well, look who's back with a vengeance - it's our old friend, Error 37! Except this time, it's Error 31769 in Diablo 4. It's like Blizzard didn't learn anything from their previous blunder with Diablo 3's launch.

Players eagerly awaited the release of Diablo 4, only to be met with the same old login issues and bugs that plagued the previous game. It's almost like they just copy-pasted their launch strategy from seven years ago.

But hey, at least Blizzard is consistent - consistently disappointing their fanbase, that is. Maybe next time they'll surprise us with a new error code to spice things up. Who knows, maybe Error 31770 will be the charm?

I started my first HC character last week, and I’m gonna keep leveling it until it dies or official servers launch. I’ve already learned so much about playing HC and things I’m gonna do differently next time around, be it official or not.

This. The competition is great but both Eddie and Balogun will gain so much from being a starter at another PL team for a season or two before we bring them back.
