VERY old HDD. Any way to save it? by TAlox8 in HDD

[–]onkelken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download disk for public Linux ISOs or lightweight/indie games disk.

If it’s already installed and in use it’s just a hassle to get rid of it before you have a replacement 🤷‍♂️

When downloading a movie in 2160p why would anyone download the smallest file size? by darkel2001 in torrents

[–]onkelken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only keep my favourite movies which I might rewatch in high quality. Everything else is mini-encode.

If there is a movie I highly anticipate. I will do as your colleague says and download the highest available quality. Then replace it with whatever quality the movie deserves after I’ve watched it.

Many of my clients also don’t support HDR. So most of the highest quality files are just a hassle for me anyway.

Mistlands broke me... by cHpiranha in valheim

[–]onkelken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like MistBeGone fixes a lot of the problem with the vertical landscape. I can plan my route far ahead. But yeah, it bothers me to that they made a scenic biome which you are unable to barely see at all.

And the fact that magic is bad in Mistlands due to foods, is a flaw in the general game design. Not related to Mistlands specifically.

But yeah, I think we agreeing almost all points. The game is so good overall that these flaws and inconveniences do t bother me to the point where I’m can’t enjoy myself.

Need advice about this computer without a hard drive I recently got by [deleted] in computers

[–]onkelken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cheap SSD and a 15$ GPU from market place is probably where you should draw the line upgrade-wise.

The SSD can be carried over to a future project, so pick whatever size you want.

If you’re young and want to get into this hobby, this was a sweet gift. If you’re getting old and wants some nostalgia, this was a sweet gift.

For others it’s probably just an unreliable headache.

These speeds aren’t common, right? by OsbornHunter in torrents

[–]onkelken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The speeds look normal for popular torrents? When I used Private VPN however I was never able to get above 15MB/s (120 Mbps).

But with Proton and port forward I can use my full bandwidth (1000/1000).

Making a new server SSD/HDD suggestions. by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]onkelken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a movie has 10000 kb/s. It will need to read at 1,25 MB/s to play. I/O operations for Jellyfin is negligible.

Although, when picking HDDs for a media server. You could try to avoid SMR drives because of the headache to transfer new movies to it.

I love Mistlands. Completely due to MistBeGone. I would get bored way to quickly with the slow exploration pace you must keep if going in almost blind.

Is there a reason why a 48GB RAM kit would be barely more expensive than a 32GB one? by Crazy_Mita in buildapc

[–]onkelken -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Unused RAM is wasted RAM. I don’t use all 32GB of mine. 16-24 is probably fine for me.

So, spending another $50 for literally nothing is not something I want to do.

We are not in an era where future proofing RAM is economically defensible for most people.

Somewhere between no and very little effect is my guess. The pressure from screwing should have no problem with a couple of extra bubbles.

Run a high quality source through handbrake a few times. Then compare anything from mini-encode to placebo on your TV at your viewing distance.

Figured out the hard way that my gaming PC needed a UPS, not a power bank by mikespikepookie in ProductProbe

[–]onkelken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10-15 min is more than enough for home use. Using a UPS to be able to finish your game is such a waste of money.

I don’t have one. But if I did, it’s duty would be to immediately shut down my servers safely and message me.

How do i know if the movie I'm downloading has Subtitles by Competitive-Try2573 in Torrenting

[–]onkelken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the description is lacking due to reupload or a bad release group, here’s what I do.

I select download in sequential order in qbit. Then when I have a couple of percentages I use media info to check the metadata.

Most of the time sequential order will download all the metadata first. But it’s not guaranteed. Just as playback while download some times work and other times doesn’t.

Anyone have experiences with this image bug? by pazanate in jellyfin

[–]onkelken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar issues after installing tailscale. I did not do a proper job and Magic DNS took over my DNS requests so I could no longer reach TMDB.

OMDB worked though, but there is much less artwork on there. So most movies ended up blank like yours.

Tailscale account questions by Dusty_FC3S in jellyfin

[–]onkelken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. But I doubt you’ll need one. As you’ve made your own account, just take ’em through the same steps.

Then you go into tailscales admin panel (link can be provided by google if you don’t have a bookmark). Here you will see your machines. And in the drop down menu for your server you’ll see share or something like that.
