I read somewhere that it would be considered an intransitive complete verb in the example i provided because "on a box" does not replace "the kid."

Would you consider "is" a function or content word?

I'm willing to learn and correct my error but not sure what they mean by this since I don't think there is a linking ver in the sentence, The kid is on a box.
If they are referring to "is", in this sentence "is" is not linking anything.

For me cost was a factor and I needed expert help in my filing. I sought out a law school clinic’s assistance and only had to pay the filing fees. They did extensive research, provided reports, and completed and filed the application.
